You guys think doping isn't rampant in soccer?

The only thing that would bother me about this is if United were not getting the same blind eye treatment as everyone else.

Apparently Jones told the uefa "w***er" to "f**k off" with himself.

Blind wanted to celebrate the win then do the test.

I'm surprised the club didn't have a statement ready to publish the second this story came out.

why would they? they might not have even known UEFA were bringing charges against them.

its gas, Jones was charged for "insulting and directing abusive language" towards a doping control officer and yet players abuse refs and linesmen in front of our eyes every week. Now there is something they should be clamping down on

Still seems madness to me that our whole preseason defensive warm up was based around who we'd have available for what is basically a glorified community shield, and 1 Champions League group stage match which could be against absolutely anybody.

As things stand that match could be away to Madrid, home to Dundalk, or anywhere in between

Maybe they feared the bans could be longer and applied to domestic games too.

Am I missing somthing, but they took the tests?

I remember Robbie Keane getting hot and bothered after beating Saudi Arabia in 2002 WC.

Players wanted to celebrate. 10 min is not going to change the results

I get they want to celebrate, but that is massively unprofessional.

They very obviously knew. The pre-season was preparing for this, and Jose made reference to it a few days back too, although we didn't know exactly what he meant till now.

Say it ain't so Jones :(

According to ESPN Blind and Jones were asked to give samples after the win and said they wanted to go celebrate, Jones got verbally abusive, something that may be down to being pumped up from the win but not professional at all.
    Article also stated:
There is no suggestion that either player was guilty of doping.

Not the worst charges in football but still poor by Blind and Jones. It's something they've obviously known they were going to be facing for a while however. Remember hearing former players before saying how annoying it is when you want to be out celebrating with teammates and are called in to do a drug test, but it's part of the game.

Timing is everything though, just read a couple of hours ago that Jones' wife is pregnant and he's becoming a dad, have to say the following was quite unexpected!

Bailly and Jones will probably start the PL season anyway. Lindelöf wasn't gunna be flung straight in.

    Pair of idiots.

Club should fine them a couple of weeks wages too.

No excuse for that kind of nonsense.

    Bit of an overreaction much?

If anyone thinks it isn't, they need their head checked. However it's worth remembering there's far more financial incentive to dope and not get caught than there is to catch dopers. The reason why more soccer players aren't caught is who can afford to hire the better doctor with the newer technology.

They didn't miss a test or fake a test did they.? Just abused a tester or two.

Jones expected to appeal. He&MUFC furious at UEFA. Doping officer took Jones away while squad posed with 'Manchester - a city united' banner
Feeling at MUFC is that punishment way OTT considering events in MCR that week. Club say he provided blood & urine samples.

The picture in question that Jones got called away from.

I'll rescind my comments that it was unprofessional if thats true. Id be angry at that too.

No need to abuse the officials, which is what got him the ban. Plead you case, yeah - resort to abusive language at an official just doing their job? I don't see the justification.

Maybe that's why Smalling was smiling like a goon in the photo. Jones was in a scrap just off camera.

    http://www.itv.com/news/2017-07-31/man-united-fined-over-anti-doping-infringements/

"Jones was understood to have been verbally abusive towards a doping control officer after he was requested to attend drug-testing after the final in Stockholm on May 24, and will now miss the Uefa Super Cup match against Real Madrid next week and United's first Champions League group stage match in September. He has also been fined 5,000 euros.

It is understood Blind was reluctant to take a test as requested because he wanted to celebrate with his team-mates, whose 2-0 victory over Ajax ensured their qualification for this season's Champions League. He was fined 5,000 euros.

There is no suggestion that either player was guilty of doping."

For anyone that doesnt know it can sometimes take 2 hours or longer before a player can give a sample.if you are just after winning a europa league final the last thing you want is to be waiting in a small room on your own and then maybe have to get a taxi back to the team hotel on your own or where ever the players are celebrating

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,719 ✭✭✭JaMarcusHustle

Like you'd even have to test Jones or Blind for performing enhancing anything.

I doubt after winning a European Cup final, and being pulled away from posing for a photo regarding a very recent tragedy to the place he lives he would be in some composed, calm mentality to simply "plead" his case. He was pumped up and wanted to celebrate with his friends, teammates and family. The official was doing their job, but by the sounds not well. Surely there is a better way of telling the player, like going through the manager.

Haven't we all lost our tempers in the heat of the moment? This is no different, and to be honest it's going to be built up so much more than it was in the minds of people in the media and some fans.

Maybe, but thats the rules, and as professionals, they should know that.

I feel for Jones if the story is true (I doubt he jumped straight to abusive language first either, maybe it escalated to it).

Blind just seemed like he didn't want to do the test, which is unprofessional.

But the players know that drug tests are part of the parcel and someone is certain to get called up after a final. Celebrating the win Is not an excuse.

Nothing story but both lads were idiots. Drug testing isnt done enough as it is. They should have done the test then went back to celebrating (doesnt matter how long it takes). They know the rules and shoudl have just did it.

Doesnt change the fact that its a nothing story that really doesnt need much more comment to be fair
