Would that count as lasting? I'm not suggesting that couples have to die together to constitute the relationship lasting. But at the same time it only lasted for 50 percent of those involved

Are you asking if death is a legitimate way of ending a relationship?

    I would say yes.

Quick question. Lets say a 50 year old married a 30 year old.
After twenty years the now 50 year old is 70 and dies.

The other person is only 50 at that stage.

Would that count as lasting? I'm not suggesting that couples have to die together to constitute the relationship lasting. But at the same time it only lasted for 50 percent of those involved

I assume after 20 years you can count it as lasting?

I think so. I _suspect_ that when people talk about a relationship lasting they are not really thinking in terms of time. They are thinking in terms of the relationship only ending due to natural causes or other unpreventable or unforeseen termination of it.

So if they stay together for only one week before one of them dies I would consider that "lasting". If they stayed together 40 years and then divorced and never saw each other again - I would consider that not lasting.

So "lasting" - for me at least - is not about the length of the relationship in time so much as it is about the reasons why the relationship eventually ends.

I met my husband when I was 19 (going on 20) and he was 30. 9 years (5 of marriage) and 2 children later we are doing great.

I'm not a stranger to synonyms if that's your mine gripe! It's unorthodox, atypical, unusual, out of the ordinary etc etc.

Look I'm sure you're both happy in your fully symbiotic set-up. She was a single teen mom whose baby sitter offered to take the post full time with loads of perks. Meanwhile you got an uber cool sea-bather/gamer nerd who gigs at the local coffee shop and is fresh as a daisy.

Fair dues to you both, it worked out. I wonder if she loves you plastering the details of her private life all over the internet as much as you seem to love doing it.

In fairness to the dude, asking him about who he works for is none of your business. Would you be happy to fire up where you work?

Think you need to step away from the keyboard and go for a walk or something.

You're right, go back to telling us about how your ex in her 30's (you know the one you used to babysit with) wasn't as mature as the young lady who swims in the ocean.

I'll wager the first guy didn't babysit for his wife's child from a previous relationship with his then current partner and then take over daddy duties of said child full time. I've heard stories (mostly fiction) of guys running off with the babysitter but seldom the other way around. It's all very Jerry Springer in North Cackalacky.
