One of my goals in life is to be present, on Boards, when Permabear admits he's made the whole thing up.

Every chance he gets, he launches into the same speech - "You'd think that the housing crisis will worsen/homelessness will be sorted/the ECB will raise it's interest rates... but when I met my OH in a church in North Carolina, I was impressed by her maturity. 2 years later we are happily settled with 3 children. She loves to swim in the sea and I love to indulge her".

I'm following all of his posts, just to be there on the day when he gives up:D:D

Age gaps seem to the rock on which live and let live liberalism on relationships flounder.

Do gay marriages work? Do open relationships work? Does polygamy or polyamory work when agreed to? What about relationships based on sexual kinks - on submission and domination? What about class differences? Racial differences.

All are agreed to work. To ask is to be a bigot.

Just don't be 15 years older. Or be prepared for a long defence. And plenty ridicule.

My wife is 10 years younger than me and says she loves having a mature man rather than the guys her age who are simply too immature,

Aye and one of the big reasons IMHO and I outlined earlier is that large age gaps in marriages/relationships are extremely indicative of societies with lower gender equality, where men hold the power and go for younger women who are essentially seen as fertile baby makers. That's why subconsciously or no the "live and let live liberalism" gets attacks of the vapours on the matter. Add in a little of the "you don't go for women your own age, because they're more equal". A large age gap with the man older(the most common) looks like the dreaded "patriarchy" to some. With all of your other examples this isn't in play. They appear to signify a more "equal" and "liberal" society. There's a few other more subtle things going on too, but that would be much of it.

And you in turn are, therefore, not calling them out and suggesting they not live as they want to live; as a cynical flavour of liberal.

FWIW back to the op, there are 11 years in the difference between myself and my wife (me younger, her older).

We are well suited and together 7 years, married 4 years with 2 kids, so doing ok and lasting so far.

Have had relationships with similar aged people (one was a day older than me) and ones with other older and younger girls - age wasnt really a deciding factor in any of those relationships as to why they didnt last, for me anyway.

It's amusing how you called me a misogynist yesterday, when the biggest misogynist in this thread is you.

Aye, but like all soundbites ignores realities. No matter how "tolerant" any imagined utopia may be there will always be limits to that tolerance. Just like the other commonly trumpeted soundbite of "free speech". It has many limitations and rightly so. We quite simply can't love whomever we f**king well please.

Its half 5 am in "north carolina"

Presumably she is beside you in the bed. Get off boards and stop validating your relationship to us bitter liberal cucks.
Go and give her a cuddle from us.

It's the fact that the entire thing is a third-rate fantasy not even worthy of a Mills & Boon novel that people have an issue with.

I'm starting to come around to the 'making it all up' side.

Well nobody can know if a power imbalance will endure , especially when you pick somebody who is still developing.
Your words say one thing -there is no imbalance -but the circumstances you describe don't match that at all.

Yes and no. It's not the personal examples, more what the general dynamic suggests to some.
As Yourself isit pointed out, liberals will bend over backwards to condone relationships based on submission-domination dynamics -- but then a relationship between a young woman and an older man is condemned because there's a power differential. Again, this seems contradictory.
Not that contradictory. Sub dom stuff is ok so long as it doesn't butt into say modern notions of feminism. Look at how women who "just" want to be housewives and mothers can attract flak from that angle, even though women are told they have full choice in what they want from life. We see it in the sexual revolution too. Great stuff if you're a man or woman riding all that walks while swing from chandeliers with French ticklers up the bum, but suggest you want to remain a virgin until a serious relationship/marriage and not so much great stuff.
With the obvious exception of children, what other limitations are you thinking of?
Well animals for a start, but... More in the realms of 'normal', while casual polyamory is OK, settled polygamy is illegal in most western cultures and not exactly lauded.

? The only circumstance is the age gap. You've presumed the conclusion. Nothing he says will convince you.
