Ah lads if you are in ballsbridge it has to be Rolys Bistro.

Good solid grub and lovely staff. Fairly unfussy stuff for a Munster man!!

Roly's is nothing close to what it once was, in my opinion.

Just looks like a ham and cheese toastie?

In principle but it's pork with ham and cheese. The brine you make for the pork before cooking gives it an extra kick and flavour. The outside of the bread is brushed with a butter mix before grilling too.

The one I made is the one from the Binging With Babish channel on YouTube. He makes meals that feature in films or television shows. As I said, it's a great sandwich but the amount of time required to prep it probably isn't worth it. I won't be in any rush to make another.

The ultimate waste of time for a sandwich I made was a shooter sandwich. Nothing more than ok, very expensive to make and takes too long for it to be ready.

I've only been once in my life a number of years ago and, with the amount of options now available in Dublin, I'm not in any rush to return. It was a solid meal and nothing more, for me.

What is the Buer restaurant of choice these days?

The breakfast in Roly's is excellent but the other meals are alright. Nothing special.

Ravi's Kitchen at lunchtime for Indian is my go-to.

What did you use for the bread? I've actually been planning on making this in the coming weeks, when I get some spare time, and have been thinking that I might have to bake my own pan Cubanos as I doubt I can buy them over here

My kitchen. I spend more time cooking now than I ever did dining out.

If we'd a free Friday/Saturday night we'd probably drop down to Kinara in Clontarf. Great little bar at the back for a drink while waiting.

Their sister restaurant is in Ranelagh although I haven't tried it.

Last place I went in town was The Larder on Parliament Street last month. Enjoyed it and their lamb burger was great.

Didn't find the correct bread (although didn't look particularly hard). I used an Italian soft roll from the bakery.

Wouldn't mind giving the baking my own a shot.

Yeah I was thinking of making my own, this video shows a method that seems pretty easy to make, though similar to the Pork you need to start it a day or two before you actually want the sandwich.

I really want to do this, but similarly I know that I won't.

You're over thinking things, two slices of bread, butter and a packet of crisps, jobs a goodun, best sandwich in the world.

It's right up there! Thick cut bread, lots and lots of butter, lash the full bag of crisps in.

It's alright, pretty standard indian fare. Portions are very big.

The whole point of a sandwich is that it's quick and convenient.

I think I'm going to make some double cooked Szechuan pork belly tonight. Then again in I'll have to eat it all myself as it's too spicy for kids

Well using my mathematical genius it would 26/6 times better. Noone knows what that number is, science hasn't got that far yet. But its better.

It's the added bitterness that makes the difference?

I think we can agree on cheese and onion but smoky bacon is the better flavour anyway

I've never in my life understood why people like Tayto Smokey Bacon. Half the crisps are burnt and the flavour is sheer abuse of the taste buds.

No irish person was ever made to endure temperatures in the 30's.

I can't wait to get back to an irish summer day where you say to your other half..."I think I'll bring a coat just in case"
