I always enjoyed it too. Has it definitely closed down?

    Yep :(

What happened to Fenns? My favourite restaurant in Cork :( I could go 3/4 times a week between morning tea and lunch. Off work this week for holidays and all. Gutted.

I caught the radio interview. Bus strike, water outtages, and the road chaos around there they said all tipped them over the financial edge in the end. Pity, I liked that place.

12 tables in Douglas the other night. I was pleasantly surprised! Wasn't expecting much because of the location and the very basic decor (slightly uncomfortable chairs)... but the food was really good. Nothing fancy, but well cooked, and the price was reasonable I think. 4 starters, mains, desserts and 2 coffees for 130.

I had a scallop in chowder starter, really tasty! Scallops were perfectly cooked, chowder was delicious. Roasted salmon then, very simple... it came with mash and some veg... asparagus. Lemon tart then. Nice, homemade, again simple but done right.

    Thumbs up from me.

Panda Mama gone too unfortunately. A few places have bitten the dust in the last few days.

Casey is good. Very nice fresh fish. Great quality if a little old fashioned in the decor. Good for a group.

Was in Spitjack this evening. Impressed.

Had beef brisket which was nice & tender. Served with a wine sauce & crispy onions. Very tasty. Had a taste of the ham hock & 3 different sides as well. All nice.

Portion sizes plenty big enough imo. Were earlier complaints on here about lunch, can't remember? Maybe they increased them after feedback.

Tried two desserts. Brownie/blondie & a peanut butter ice cream with a peanut brittle. Both lovely.

Good atmosphere, busy, nice decor & all staff very friendly. Would recommend.

Went to Tequila Jack's to try the breakfast menu I so liked the look of.
    "are you still serving breakfast?"
    "yes"
I sat at the bar to choose from the breakfast menu on the counter, gave my order to another server and was brought cutlery and a glass of water.
Some minutes later, he had to come back to tell me that the kitchen was now only serving the main menu.

    Not impressed!

Now, I know it could be down to teething problems and it was busy with the match crowd but surely taking away obsolete menus and informing the staff at what time you stop serving breakfast is pretty basic stuff.

At that point regardless of the timing they should have honoured the order.

Never been here, but will give it a wide birth.

I agree. I'll probably give it another chance, though.

Just out of curiosity, will you give it a wide berth just because of this issue or have you heard other negative things?

I agree it is annoying but they've only been open about 2 weeks so I'll be giving it the benefit of the doubt. I love Mexican food and there are no real options elsewhere apart from burrito places.

Reading some of the reviews on FB I wouldn't bother beer.

I've read a number of issues.

But this is one of my pet hates. (e.g. breakfast to lunch timings)

if I hadn't have read any others, this would be enough to put me off.

Which is just another reason they should have honoured the order.

I haven't been so don't take my word.

There's also some good reviews on FB.

After beer's experience though says enough for me about potential customer experience if it's this shabby after a few weeks.....

My partner was there and reported the service was bad but the food was great.

Two issues with our meal, one of which being that the chicken was raw and the other that a vegetarian dish had meat in it. Complaints not dealt with in a professional manner.

Raw chicken. A veggie dish with meat in it and the complaint not dealt with properly.

That's 3 really big problems from 1 sitting.

Im surprised to hear the service was bad, I had lunch there about a week ago and thought the service was pretty good. As soon as I went in they were straight over to get me a drink while I looked at the menu then came back to see if I had any questions about it. Very little waiting around for the food which was tasty. I couldn't say how authentic it is as my experience of Mexican food is pretty much limited to bojum & Brendan's burritos so not qualified to answer that sort of question but I'd certainly go bacj. It's seemed busy any time I've passed it as well so lots of people giving it the once over.

I had brunch in Tequila Jack's on Saturday. I agree about the service. Wasn't great. We had to ask three times to get water for the table. The waitress didn't know what one of the items on the menu was.

We asked for a dessert menu but never got it and when I politely said to another waitress "we are waiting on a dessert menu" she rolled her eyes up to heaven and just said "right" and went to get it...yeesh! They are just open though and I'd say some of the staff aren't very experienced.

Food was good though. I had the breakfast tostado. Was very spicy. Little bit too spicy for me and I usually like a bit of spice. Still enjoyed it though. Good sized portion. Prices are very reasonable and a lot cheaper than many places in the city. We sat outside and it was very nice in the sun! The indoor seating area seemed liked a weird setup. Bit too big and dark.

Will go back to try evening menu anyway. Food is tasty!

Between Rachel's and Tequila Jacks it sounds like good waiting staff are thin on the ground at the moment.

The closing of several restaurants should free some experienced personnel.

Parlour Café or Tara's tea room maybe? Not Mexican though.
