For fcuk sake! I enjoyed their music and have a fair few cds too but 'saved lives' is the typical social media bolloxology.

Actually music helped me a lot as a teen, including his. I had a difficult time and was suicidal, the music helped me channel a lot of frustration and hurt that I had at the time. So, I would agree with the previous comment there.

Saddened but not entirely shocked to be honest.Always suspected he might have something like this in him. Like Chris Cornell and many others - some people aren't built to last the distance. RIP.

He had his demons. Talked about his poor childhood before.

I sincerely empathise with you, but we all have those thoughts with varying degrees from time to time. You find the strength within yourself not from a few songs in my honest opinion, but I'm glad it gave you some relief.

Iconic band so very sad to hear this being driven to such a point of no return is so hard to comprehend until it is too late, hope he is at peace now.

May Chester rest in peace, was a fan of theirs and had recently started listening to their older albums again. My December and Numb are some of my favourite songs. I remember seeing them with QOTSA in the rds a few years ago.

Their remixes with Jay Z were fantastic too. Loved how they brought that together, his voice really worked well. Still hoping it was fake news tbh

Freaky I was listening to the radio today at lunchtime and numb was playing now I haven't heard it in a long time but you can hear the angst and emotion he sings with in that song. To sing like that you've got to feel it. Poor guy I read he has 5 kids too that he leaves behind. Its just tragic. RIP.

Fcuking hell. They were the band that got me into rock and metal.

    RIP

Very sad to hear this. Great frontman with a great voice, loved Hybrid Theory. :(

Genuinely gutted when I heard this earlier. A lot of people have mentioned Hybrid Theory being special to them, and it holds a special place in my heart as well. I was a huge fan when I was in my teens and even though I haven't been as avid as fan in recent years, I still really like the new music they've been producing - it's a different sound to their early stuff, but the lyrics are powerful and Chester's vocals are always mesmerizing; such a unique voice.

Despite the lyrics being fairly dark and quite heavy, I've always found them to be uplifting. Whenever I've been having a bad day or feeling down throwing on Somewhere I Belong, Numb, Papercut, or any of the other early stuff always manages to lift my mood.

    Rest In Peace Chester

    Such sad news.

Met them at their gig with Metallica in the RDS and they were absolute gentlemen.
I was a huge fan years ago.
    Sleep tight Chester :(

Can't help but think of one of their newest songs, 'Heavy'.

    RIP Chester.

They got a bit of abuse from the crowd that night, coins n plastic bottles etc thrown at them. Very embarrassing

I know allot of musicians have passed away in recent years but this one is hitting me the hardest. I get that Prince and David Bowie were legends in there own right, but they were before my time.
Linkin Park are my generation, Hybrid Theory is one of the first album I bought and played over and over again, also one of the first gigs I went about 10 years ago. Bennington was an amazing musical talent. For me he is a modern day music legend. RIP Chester Bennington.

The husbag just picked me up and is playing One More Light. The songs take on a tragic meaning now :( I just can't believe that incredible talent is now gone.

In The End was the soundtrack to my teenage years.

    RIP Chester.

Looking back there are quite a few songs that he had that suggest his mind may have gone to dark places in the past. I just listened to "Shadow of the day"

    Devastated to hear this news.

Linkin Park are one of my favourite bands and I actually travelled over to Birmingham a couple of weeks ago to see them. I never thought for a split second it would be the last time I would get the chance to see them or that it would be their last ever concert.

Chester had a rough childhood. He was sexually abused by an older friend from the age of 7-13. His parents divorced throughout this time. His mum wasn't in a good place and his father worked very long hours to try and put food on the table so wasn't around much either. He felt abandoned by his family and turned to drink and drugs as he said this was the only time he felt some release from the pain he suffered. He was taking double figure amounts of acid a day, meth, crack. It came to a head in 2006 when the band staged an intervention and he realised that he would die he continued. Things improved from there on in (although he was fond of a bit of pot) although he still had the odd struggle with the battle.

6 kids left behind. So, so sad.

RIP Chester and thanks for the memories.

    When my time comes
Forget the wrong that I've done
Help me leave behind some reasons to be missed
    And don't resent me
    And when you're feeling empty
    Keep me in your memory
    Leave out all the rest
    Leave out all the rest[I/]

Whatever you're going through boardsies please talk to someone. Deaths like this show that no matter how much money you have or how many fans adore you it won't save you. His poor family and friends though. I can't even imagine how they're feeling now. I felt like crying earlier. Haven't felt like that since Princess Diana died. He was only 5 years older than me too. Don't be alone in your thoughts.

First two albums helped me, and I'd imagine millions of others through some bad times as a teenager. Never quite managed to get the hair right when I did it though.

Not happy at all tonight - Hybrid Theory and Meteora have had a listen through already.

Sad to here. Like many they were very influential in my youth, they were one of the first Rock bands I ever listened to, and subsequently got me into Rock music. Rest in Peace.

Devastated by this news, was nearly in tears when I heard it last night. I suffer from anxiety/depression myself, and before I really came to understand those things I had some very low years in which I felt very isolated and music was (and still is) a massive outlet for my emotions. Linkin Park were one of those outlets all through my teen years and into my early twenties. I think my devastation comes in part from knowing Chester's music helped me at times, it was something to relate to and singing (or shouting) along helped me vent. His music helped me cope with my own depression, and so I'm devastated that ultimately nothing was able to help him cope with his own demons.

And on Chris Cornell's birthday, too.

Rest in peace to Chester, and to Chris. I don't believe in an afterlife but if I'm wrong I hope they're chilling out there together.

Was at the concert too and that's something of an understatement.
Amount of bottles thrown at them was insane.
Was never a fan of theirs but it was pathetic behaviour from certain elements of the crowd.
