    Breaking on Sky also.

Sad news. Wonder why he did it? In situation like this I always feel bad for the family and friends left behind. Suicide can really devastate a family. He had a lot of talent.

    RIP.

Whenever I hear songs off their first album on the radio it takes me back to my teenage years.

He had 6 kids. Very sad for them. RIP

Jesus that's mental, saw him live a couple of weeks ago at Rock Werchter and he put on a great performance. RIP, you never know what someone is going thorough.

Wow, completely flattened by the news. Hybrid Theory is a brilliant album, still listen to it now and again.

    When my time comes
Forget the wrong that I've done
    Help me leave behind some
    Reasons to be missed
    And don't resent me
    And when you're feeling empty
    Keep me in your memory
    Leave out all the rest

One of my favourite songs from Chester. So sorry to hear this sad news. May he Rest In Peace.

Why are so many singers tormented?

Actually can't believe this. His poor family and friends. Hybrid Theory was an amazing album and their new stuff is great too. You don't know what's going on in a person's head at all :(

Some dudes birthday (who had also comitted suicide) was today.

So I'm guessing it's somehow related?

Could never get into them as a youngling but Chester always seemed sound as a pound.
Apparently the death of Chris Cornell hit him hard

    Awful news.

I was never a Linkin Park fan per se but Collision Course is one of my favourite collaborations ever and I saw them in the RDS years ago. Cracking gig.

    His poor family.

Hybrid theory got me through my teens, such a shame for his family

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,602 ✭✭✭RocketRaccoon

It's ironic that his music helped so many kids get through awkward teenage years and most likely saved a lot of lives which would have been otherwise lost to suicide. A very talented man and obviously a big loss to his family. Very sad news.

    For fcuk sake!
I enjoyed their music and have a fair few cds too but 'saved lives' is the typical social media bolloxology.

God help anyone with suicidal feelings but I doubt listening to link in park will save you.

I feel most sorrow for his 6 kids.

Dunno how it helps putting out his method of suicide either.....you'd wonder if publicising it so much actually contributes to the problem of suicide

Seeing a guy like him doing that might 'inspire ' others but hopefully not.

    Rip Chester, some cracking music

Actually music helped me a lot as a teen, including his. I had a difficult time and was suicidal, the music helped me channel a lot of frustration and hurt that I had at the time. So, I would agree with the previous comment there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,679 ✭✭✭AllGunsBlazing

Saddened but not entirely shocked to be honest.Always suspected he might have something like this in him. Like Chris Cornell and many others - some people aren't built to last the distance. RIP.

I sincerely empathise with you, but we all have those thoughts with varying degrees from time to time. You find the strength within yourself not from a few songs in my honest opinion, but I'm glad it gave you some relief.

Iconic band so very sad to hear this being driven to such a point of no return is so hard to comprehend until it is too late, hope he is at peace now.

May Chester rest in peace, was a fan of theirs and had recently started listening to their older albums again. My December and Numb are some of my favourite songs. I remember seeing them with QOTSA in the rds a few years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 714 ✭✭✭nkav86

Their remixes with Jay Z were fantastic too. Loved how they brought that together, his voice really worked well. Still hoping it was fake news tbh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,185 ✭✭✭screamer

Freaky I was listening to the radio today at lunchtime and numb was playing now I haven't heard it in a long time but you can hear the angst and emotion he sings with in that song. To sing like that you've got to feel it. Poor guy I read he has 5 kids too that he leaves behind. Its just tragic. RIP.

Fcuking hell. They were the band that got me into rock and metal.

Very sad to hear this. Great frontman with a great voice, loved Hybrid Theory. :(

Genuinely gutted when I heard this earlier. A lot of people have mentioned Hybrid Theory being special to them, and it holds a special place in my heart as well. I was a huge fan when I was in my teens and even though I haven't been as avid as fan in recent years, I still really like the new music they've been producing - it's a different sound to their early stuff, but the lyrics are powerful and Chester's vocals are always mesmerizing; such a unique voice.

Despite the lyrics being fairly dark and quite heavy, I've always found them to be uplifting. Whenever I've been having a bad day or feeling down throwing on Somewhere I Belong, Numb, Papercut, or any of the other early stuff always manages to lift my mood.

    Rest In Peace Chester

There music was going down the plug hole in fairness. They latest album got critically hammered but overall there music was complete arse. Sorry to here him pass liked the crawling song that would be about it.

Met them at their gig with Metallica in the RDS and they were absolute gentlemen.
I was a huge fan years ago.
    Sleep tight Chester :(

Can't help but think of one of their newest songs, 'Heavy'.

    RIP Chester.

They got a bit of abuse from the crowd that night, coins n plastic bottles etc thrown at them. Very embarrassing

I know allot of musicians have passed away in recent years but this one is hitting me the hardest. I get that Prince and David Bowie were legends in there own right, but they were before my time.
Linkin Park are my generation, Hybrid Theory is one of the first album I bought and played over and over again, also one of the first gigs I went about 10 years ago. Bennington was an amazing musical talent. For me he is a modern day music legend. RIP Chester Bennington.
