Seeing that the SE is only available for the Chinese market are there any issues with....

I've a feeling this is the "Phantom 3 4K" that was released temporarily on the EU market but quickly pulled and was only then available in US and ASIA.

Well, almost is according to this site:
    https://wetalkuav.com/dji-releases-new-old-drone-phantom-3-se-power-low-price/

You've to choose the EU Plug option, yours must be set to US - and it won't allow you to apply the code to the US version, only the EU one.

Once you apply the discount code it works out at €1025 / US$1139

Yeah that looked to be the issue alright.

Now showing up at $1139 which according to XE is €978.

Now, in layman's terms, is there any really good reasons why I shouldn't just get the Phantom SE, seems a hell of a lot cheaper

This relies on wifi to stream the video which means the drone doesn't go anywhere near 4Km like the advanced or professional version.
    This drone won't reach 1Km.

What do you want one for? If for hobby/general interest and just to get an introduction, the Phantom 3 SE would be a great option, and make more sense financially. Just buy at the very least one extra battery.

It's bigger than the Mavic. But you can get backpacks to carry it around in it's 'ready to fly' setup.

It's being advertised as having 4km range.
    Main Features:
Latest entry-level quadcopter and the most cost-effective choice in Phantom 3 Series, comparable to Phantom 3 Professional.
Capable of offering you the thrilling but stable flight at a speed of 57km/h even in strong wind.
4km super long-distance control range and amplified WiFi signal for 4km long image transmission.
Equipped with 12MP 94-degree FOV camera to take 4K UHD videos and extremely sharp photos.
Vision Positioning system designed for hover accuracy indoors to complement the GPS system.
Intelligent flight functions such as Point of Interest, Course Lock, Automatic Hover, Automatic Return.

Yeah, mostly for the hobby /general interest side of things.

I live in an area of outstanding natural beauty, and Id love to get a done up in the sky for a different perspective.

There is also a wide array of wildlife in my area (deer/buzzards / hawks etc) which I would love to get footage of.

Also, I would like to get footage of a lake close by, would like to get the drone to do a complete loop / and or some distance across to get footage of the fishing boats etc.

That's why I was initially attracted to the Mavic. The 4km range it has would be perfect.

The app has waypoints (You need to update the app after initial download to get the updates for the Phantom 3 SE ).

This is handy if you want to check out a radius of an area from where you will be standing - 1ft  to 1000 nautical miles

So as I'm not going to be using this for professional photography (more messing around) do you reckon I'd be better off with the cheaper SE?

I'm getting confused now as to whether it has a 4km range or not.

    4km in good conditions.
The 2nd last post in this thread says he has got 3.5km on it (only had it a short time when posted)

Yes that's what i'm concerned about. The controller it shows with it definitely does not have lightbridge which mean it can't go that distance.
Wifi has a range of less than 1km

the range seems to be ok from reports - certainly 2.5 k to 3k in clear areas.

what I would be worried about are reports about delay (up to 5 secs) on video transmission for FPV flying.
This coupled with no obstacle avoidance means that it would be pretty easy to crash this flying by FPV.

this could be down to the phone used at the screen receiver actually apparently.

I use the app on a g3 and g4 with the dji osmo and no issues.

The P3 standard was great last year but with this Phantom SE and the dji sparc at about the same price there are less reasons to get a P3 standard right now.

Isn't there some issue where drones heavier than 1kg have to be registered here. Does anyone bother doing it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 168 ✭✭AdamB

There's quite a few rules and regs for drone use in Ireland and the more popular UAV's become, more stringent regs and policing can be expected. Resposible use and having a thorouogh knowlege of the regulations is probably the only way to keep minimal regs. I think you have to complete a training course in the UK now and their regulation are getting tougher by the week.
All pilots should at the least be faniliar with this website:

    Bit of both.
I saw a couple of codes in email that was in my promotions folder in gmail. Sometimes i read them when i am bored.
Then i saw a similar promotion on slickdeals.net in the forum (it was not hot) and followed a couple of links that led me to here https://couponfollow.com/site/tomtop.com
One set of codes came from there and the original promotion was in my email.

Has anybody got their cashback applied yet? Just wondering hiw long did it take for you. Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 173 ✭✭judgefoozle

If there's anyone who has received their drone and had a chance to register it with DJI, could you let us know how it went?

Have seen a recent post on the Tomtop site from a Spanish buyer about there being no warranty as it's not from a registered reseller.

Be good to know if same story in Ireland

I didn't know I had to register it, is there somewhere on the site to do that registration?
I did but the DJI care package and that was accepted.

My Topcashback dashboard is saying I have not made any purchases from Tomtop so I guess my cash back is gone elsewhere.

I have registered a claim and will find out where it went.

Is anyone else's dashboard showing the purchase amount and cashback pending?
