This game was never going to be played in the new Pairc ui Chaoimh because it has to be in a neutral venue.The insult is more to do with the first inter-county game in the new Pairc being played at the same time as the footballers game (well roughly the same time).
But being insulted is nothing new for Cork footballers

Will be very interesting to see the team selection, who misses out in the backs? Rochford seems to favour Vaughan starting... it's a bit late in the year but Coen would be my pick to play that sweeperish role behind him. That could leave Boyle and Higgins as impact subs.

Barry Moran back now, the mark / longer kick outs may lead to him being called on for 10-15 mins if we can progress. 4 solid midfielders to draw from there.

They dont have to be at neutral venues. Id say PUC was a possibility but im sure Mayo wouldnt have stood for such a decision so was never seriously considered imo

It was very much a possibility that it could have been played in the pair. Semi final replays are already pencilled in for there. According to the examiner today, the semis could very well be played there in future

Well i assume Mayo would have kicked up an absolute stink if that was the case, Croke Park does liaise with counties for these type of games to try and get agreement on venues. i dont know what article you are referencing but id safely say its not going to happen anytime soon unless maybe it was two southern teams involved.

I don't see anything in the examiner article about semis being played there in future ? Football semis is it ?
No chance
The article does say that all stand tickets are gone for both hurling quarters and terrace glass by fast
So thankfully they didn't put a football game on with them ............and of course the tickets are probably more expensive than 4A qualifiers as well.......

It made me very pensive too,I came round to the thinking of one's conundrum,were Kerry very very good and simply blew them away versus the anaemic performances that we have become accustomed to with Cork football teams in recent years?Cork ultimately have little fear of Mayo as I have oft experienced in Croker.They obviously the potential to produce a big performance.

Interesting thoughts from Michael Foley re placing a big man like Peter Kelleher in around the square.I'd definitely consider that if I was Peadar Healy!

Stephen Rochford definitely seems to favour starting Donie Vaughan but I am not so inclined based on form.Picking a full back and half back line offers many headaches with all those vying for a spot,shall have to give it a bit of thought.

Eh? Vaughan ahead of Higgins and Boyle? I know Rochford likes to throw the cat amongst the pigeons every so often, but that would be PR madness - as well as a crazy football decision.

Boyle is not playing well
Can see why he didn't start against Galway now ( although not why he only came on with 5 minutes to go)
Their is serious competition for that half back line now so won't be surprised if he doesn't start

On Higgins .......I know this won't be a popular opinion but I think he has gotten an awful easy time the past couple of years due to his reputation as one of the best corner backs in the country .........being played out of position has of course contributed at times to this BUT his marking when in his position is extremely loose and the there was the madness in Salthill. He could have had zero complaints if he had been not picked to start against Clare where he had a good second half

The Examiner said that Mayo were playing Cork in Cork, so I don't know if Id take much heed out of it.

I would have thought that he was the player under the most pressure in the back line to hold a place. The durcan, Keegan, Boyle trio along with Coen & Vaughan would have held the half back positions and as you say Keith is too loose a corner back to be on the last line of defense. For all his attributes he has got some might roastings off forwards in the past few years.

Barrett has probably done enough to nail down a starting spot. With him, Cafferkey and Harrison in the FB line; the usual three in the HB line, and any of Higgins, Vaughan or Coen to give them a hand, there's plenty of strength there.

He started him ahead of Boyle against Galway and he has started against Derry and Clare... Suspensions to Higgins and Durcan may have influenced that, but he does seem to favour starting him.

If he doesn't see him as a good "impact" sub, then I can kind of see why he's starting. But personally, I wouldn't. I was actually glad to see the black card against Clare / Coen coming on for him.

If we do win at the weekend and end up playing Kerry in the quarters, you'd imagine Vaughan would be a good option to give Cafferkey a hand minding Donaghy, and then push up into midfield for the kick outs (a la Barry Moran V Donegal in 2015)

Mike seemed to be a fan anyway. My friend was drinking it at the weekend, I'm not sure I could bring myself to supporting anything from Roscommon, even good ale

Would be my 6-7 back there. I could see Vaughan in there instead of Boyle, if his height / physicality was needed.

Some serious experience and strength to be drawing on if you've players like Higgins, Vaughan and Seamie O'Shea on the bench among others.

TBH I think he's living off his own good reputation now. He has had some poor games in the past 2/3 years but a lot of Mayo people imo don't want to see it.
I'm glad when he's playing Dublin. IMO some of the other Mayo defenders are far better defensively than him now.

Whatever about Boyle he seems to get things moving , he's a bit small for the half-back line imo, but he makes up for it with his drive and commitment.

If I remember correctly didn't andrews absolutely clean him out in the 2015 semi replay. Went a long way towards ensuring dublin were level at ht

His better days are certainly behind him,a wonderful servant to the jersey.

He's no longer suited to the corner,if ever that was his best position.It was a case of necessity to shore up a shaky full back line than anything else.He was never limpet tight marker and relied on his great turn of pace to rescue situations.

More suited to playing further up the field at this stage if he's going to be given the opportunity to start which is far from a certainty.

One hundred percent Andrews have him a torrid time that day.TBF he wasn't the only corner back that suffered such a fate.
