This young kingfisher seems to operate largely in the shadows..so photo is a bit grainy as it is a large crop of a 1600 ISO pic.
Good to see him master his trade

The aforementioned 'Bridled' Common Guillemot - same species, but a different genetic morph - as Capercaillie said they comprise a higher percentage of Guillemot colonies at more northerly lattitudes.

I've got a lovely tall variety of this growing out my back garden. Easily 2 meters tall. Bees love it, and it comes back every hear. Dare I say it... weed-like :)

Stopped to talk to a friend of mine along the Dodder today - when this little fella landed on the wall nearby.. I took a couple of quick snaps and said 'it's a dunnock'.

He demurred and said it was a 'young robin'

Looking at the pic now- I think he was right?

Saw a record of a Marsh Harrier at Boora on Tuesday, so went over on Wednesday for a look.

A bit far away but first one to see there in ages. As per the record on Irish Birding, it's tagged too. Good ol' Hen Harrier there as well.

Sounded like Curlew, and looked like Curlew, but there was about 50 of them there. Seems very high for time of the year?

@ gzoladz, I was fishing out of Mount-shannon a couple of weeks ago and that Eagle was hovering above us for a little. She is one impressive bird isn't she??
