Surface is nice, but can you safely balance the yoke on your lap? Not a fan of the three legged stool when it comes to mobile devices.

Could you be more specific please ? Can't see any surface offer in that price range?
The closest I found is ibod refurb:

I already have a decent laptop, just wanted something more portable.
The surface should be fine to use on my lap

Price range wasn't the biggest issue, more the form factor that I wanted after testing them out in PC world.

Also they were on sale on Amazon on Prime day @ 470 GBP
    But I missed out :(

First impressions after a days' use:

Build quality overall pretty good. Looks nice, especially the brushed metal exterior. Connectivity is good. I like that it has a usb-c as more and more devices will use this. Also comes with a hdmi to vga connector in the box - which might be useful to some. Keyboard is decent, though a little spongy. Screen isn't bad but in truth i expected a little better. Images can appear a bit washed out and i was expecting better - just reinforces what i've always said - screen resolution isn't everything. General performance i have no complaints. Boots up fast and web browsing, streaming, and file transfer all perform well. Speakers are good (for an ultrabook). Built-in webcam is decent for Skype etc., i got 6-6.5 hrs on the battery, mostly just web browsing, with a little streaming and programme downloading thrown in. All in all i think €540 represents good value. And the included sleeve in the box is nice since you don't usually get this.

The screen is meant to be quite bright. Perhaps if calibrated it will less washed out but not quite a bright.

Does the high res help with reading websites. I've a 13" laptop and the 1366 is a little restrictive on complex websites.

Messed around with both the resolution and the colour settings. Highest resolution is definitely best and changing the different colour settings (brightness, contrast, saturation, hue) still always resulted in images being a bit washed-out looking. It's certainly not a bad screen, but i was expecting better. Also to note that i was coming from a Sony Vaio that had a quite beautiful double-lamp lcd, so that may have influenced by expectations a little.

Hard to get a decent screen these days in anything other than a expensive laptop.

The reviews online all said the screen was good!

Whats the return policy with this. Also anyone get any extended warranty, accidental damage when they bought it.
