Or even search for the item codes. Basically, any minimum effort will work

I really want to buy something with this kind of form factor, lightweight and compact, without being too small. They really do make you pay for it though, relative to what a similarly specced standard 15" laptop costs

That is a really good price for Argos. Super portable with a beautiful screen.

Would the 4GB RAM be an issue? My phone has more than that.

Also, is getting a confirmation code an assurance even if they don't have it in stock?

13.3 is the perfect size. Especially with this screen resolution. Would snap it up if I hadn't just bought a new drone :)

Expandible according to some reviews, mine is booked

Yep, I had a read, an Asus rep states that there's either 4GB or 8GB soldered to the board. And then a free slot with the capability of a 20GB sodimm.

4GB will be acceptable for most everyday things, the SSD will also make it extremely fast.

If you are thinking of games or video editing I'd recommend upgrading the ram, but the i3 might struggle if you're using intensive programs and 4k video etc.

Its not for me, for SWMBO who is using a noisy HP Pavillion (14 yr old) . believe me, this is a cheaper alternative to giving her my Thinkpad with SSD and fingerprint reader

I think thats just usual Irish Bricks and Mortar Tax for those that won't shop around.

There is free slot to upgrade ram, but that would void warranty and lower battery life I think

    I have a few concerns...

The trackpad is meant to be just meh...(hard to find decent trackpads on windows laptops 90% of them are dire)
The 3200 x 1800 is too high for 13" and Windows does a bad job of scaling super high res.
    Battery like is meh.
I'd prefer a 15" or 17" screen laptop. Hard to find one thats decent that isn't expensive.

This is a good price for the spec though.
It has RAM that is up-gradable (single channel I assume) and it can take a M.2 and Hard Drive.

It does have a backlit keyboard. Have a look at a review on YouTube.

Very true, I would almost never buy anything from currys. Almost always can be got cheaper on amazon or elsewhere. Just mad that they can be selling it at that and some people will buy it not knowing the shop next store has it half price.

Available to order again now in plenty of stores. Be quick!

The Argos one has 256GB SSD and double the screen resolution.
    It's a serious bargain IMO

    Id nearly prefer the 1080

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 888 ✭✭✭eclipsechaser

If it isn't in stock and you reserve it for pick-up next week, does that mean it'll definitely be available?

    Yes.

Seems like a very nice machine. Up to 6 hours battery concerns me a bit - I wonder how much the screen res contributes to that, and if then one can lower the screen res in settings and extend battery life

Hello , just wondering can this laptop be used while closed and connected to screen, like a desktop.

I need a new machine, but I've got a nice setup for desktop.

    Thanks.

As long as the screen has a hdmi port, you should be good to connect the two. Not sure about being able to do it while the lid's closed though

Should just be a matter of changing the power settings and what it does when you close the lid.

Thanks a million, probably just find a way of turning off the backlight and don't power down.

Might just go ahead and get it , will sell it on if it doesn't suit.

Thanks OP, I've reserved one....it's exactly the type of machine I was looking for at a lot better price than I expected

Says out of stock now when I try to order, tried lots of locations. I called them to try and order, but the chap on the phone couldn't place an order either.

Its working for me for most of the places. You can order to collect.

Just tried to order it there and gets to the last page after entering your phone number / email address, but it comes up as out of stock. The email they send doesn't contain any reservation number.

    Maybe I'm doing it wrong!?

That is what happens when an item goes OOS even for collection in Argos so looks like it isn't available anymore.

It tells you that it can be ordered, but have you tried doing it? It will tell you out of stock at the final page

That's too bad. Would have been perfect for the wife's new college course. Time to continue the search!

Ordered at half 10 last night. Said that it could be ordered in and gave the day and everything seemed to go smoothly but there's no reservation number in the email. Is it a no hoper situation?

Yeah I think the email reservation is useless unless it has info on the product and price etc.

Thinking back, this is the 3rd time I've encountered Argos have doing something like this. They put up amazing deals which might only have 1 or 2 units in stock, then just leave the deal up on the site to drive traffic. Pretty shady.

I've reserved one, purely based on the hype in this thread! I need a new laptop, but can someone explain to me why this is such a good deal? Am I right in saying I could get a similarly specced 15" laptop for €200 less (minus the HD screen, which doesn't bother me)? Not being a smart ass, I'm just genuinely trying to figure out if this is a great bargain for me personally.

    +1 on this question :)

You pay for more thin and light. As it's designed to be carried around often.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,627 ✭✭✭tedpan

Plus it's got a 256gb SSD. Far better than HD screen. Its ultra thin and light and has a decent i3 processor. Whats the machine you are seeing for €200 less?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 162 ✭✭Cannon_fodder

Try finding one with a 256GB SSD or any SSD at this price

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,858 ✭✭✭bromley52

The speed at which SSDs laptops boot up is a key factor for me. Being able to pick it up from off and starting using it in 15-20 sec max is brilliant. The Asus I got from a Currys deal last year is as light as a feather.
