Long suffering readers of this poor neglected log may be interested in today's European Masters Athletics Championships, where DG is running for Ireland (!) in the W45 1500. Per the entry list she has the third best season best (a fantastic 4:55.6), so definitely not there to make up the numbers: http://www.fidalservizi.it/risultati/2017/AArhus_2017/GaraL555.htm

Race is on at 15:15 or so. If you're reading this DG get off your phone and get warming up! :pac:

A very credible 9th in 5:03.61 - not bad for a first European Championships!

Thanks Brian :) I brought everything I had to the table yesterday, mentally and physically. It wasn't enough...this time.
To be perfectly honest, yesterday's result was a pretty accurate reflection of where I am right now. I had hoped and wanted to be 5-10 seconds faster but it is what it is. You can't hide on a stage like that!

I did, however, come away with the much desired photographic evidence of both feet off the ground while running :D I'll post the pic when I get back, can't see how to add a pic on the mobile site. Unless you want to pull it off my fb page Brian?! :D
It was taken around the 700m mark. I was staying out of trouble and in contention as per plan. When it came to the tempo increase over the next lap, I just didn't have that extra gear.

My race was won in 4:51.x, 4:53.x and 4:54.x, a clean sweep by the Germans who also got 4th. I managed to take the scalp of a UK athlete who was 3rd in the world masters 5000m last year so I will take the small victories....

You could say I have the international championship bug now. Next stop, Madrid for the European indoors in 2018

Yep, that's Niamh. 2nd w/40 in 4:46.x Amazing finish, prime example of 'how much do I want this?' You can learn so much about racing just by watching her.

A big chunk of redemption yesterday: 2:29.6 in the 800m heat. This qualified me comfortably for the final. I have to say this again: "THE FINAL"....words cannot describe howover the moon I am. Whatever about the 1500m final by fault, this I feel have earned :)

We went through 400 in just over 72 I think and at this stage felt really good. Ditto at 300 to go. With 200 to go I made the rookie mistake of wondering when 'they' were going to sweep past instead of gathering myself for the final push. Anyway, tis all a learning curve. My time is the fifth fastest qualifying time overall which is a much-needed confidence boost. Turbo boost in fact!
