If your TV has a Saorview tuner built in you need to spend about 40 bucks on a Saorview Ariel. If your TV has no built in Saorview tuner you need both a Saorview box Approx 100 bucks as well as the Ariel.

Have you ever tried cleaning a cheese grater?

God no, that's what the staff are for.

The dishwasher also does a grand job.

Have you ever tried cleaning a cheese grater?

Yes- I hold it under some hot running water and clean it with a dish brush. It's not terribly difficult.

Other products that prey on stupid people would be smartphones. If you update yours, spending 700 euros in the process, every year a new model comes out I probably dont want to be your friend.

Also: Cigarettes. How, in 2017, have cigarette companies got new customers?

What other products prey on stupid people?

    No intrinsic value.

    Functionless. Huge depreciation.

You don't need to be into expensive jewellery to appreciate a nice engagement ring. It is likely going to be the most expensive piece any woman has and its a big deal to most women (but not all). I wouldn't advise someone to break themselves buying one (there is a very wide price range to suit all budgets) but I also would say its not something to cheap out on.

It has huge value to the couple, its certainly not function less and depreciation is of no concern unless you are planning to sell it which if you are you shouldn't be buying it in the first place.

I disagree, I think it is difficult, it takes a considerable amount of effort to enusre all the cheese is gone, at least the one I have used at least.

If a cheese grater is only to be used for grating cheese is it really that important that all the cheese is removed?

Does diamond and gold really depreciate?

The price fluctuates, the price of the actual diamond may go up or down but the price of the actual ring will most likely be less than was paid for. Gold also has a whole sale price, if you melt down a piece of gold you will get paid by weight rather than the value of a ring.

As I said though you aren't buying an engagement ring with the intention to want to sell it.

Why? It's very cheap and has a lot of great options. I like a lot of their own produced stuff and documentaries.

You probably think people are idiots for paying when free options are available but if everybody did that then there would be no money in the industry and nothing would get made.

Sometimes you want to grate different types of cheese in small quantities. Not just low grade cheddar.

Hot soapy water (not that tepid greasy soup that has already washed up three days dishes), swish it, wipe dishcloth down outside of grater - go in the same direction as the gratery bits, then same inside, swish it round a bit, done.

I think there's a lot of pseudo-intellectual sneering at people who do the lotto. I'm sure that most people know the odds of winning are incredibly slim but while they have that ticket they can fantasise about having no money worries, taking exotic holidays, buying a beautiful home, driving an amazing car, looking after their kids' futures and so on.

I have to do the lotto syndicate at work. Why? Fear of missing out. I have no real desire or expectation of winning millions but can you imagine being the guy who wasn't in the syndicate that won big .......

What medical degree do you have? SSRI cover a wide range of medications, they alter the serotonin chemicals and can be quite effective for many people for a range of disorders. Its very dangerous to throw out conspiracy theories on something you have no medical knowledge of. They are helping many people and if you do some actual research you will see how the drug actually works. Can't stand all these Dr Google's.

Even though the lotto is technically a bad bet - the amount staked versus the win and the probability of winning, is a bet skewed in favour of the house - however that does not necessarily make it a bad idea to play the lotto. It is the single only avenue by which the vast majority of the population could ever come to a life changing sum of money. The single only chance by which you can give up working and live in the lap of luxury for life. To leave yourself that one outside chance of getting millions is not quite the foolish idea that many people make it out to be.

Yes but if your life hopes are pinned on that - you have other priorities.

Many of these people if they won the lotto would want their own life back. Happened a good bit in UK.

I doubt that very much, even if they did it's most likely due to being stupid enough to announce it and go public that they won rather than say absolutely nothing about winning.

You have a far far better chance of becoming rich on your own merits - it is a waste of productive human energy and money to.

What exactly do you do after a year of winning the lotto - ring your mate on a Tuesday night to go for a pint - he says , "sorry I'm in work in the morning and to be honest I'm sick of you and your photos from Hawaii , also you live out in ****ing Howth - and it is a pain in the hole to get there and the pubs are **** too" "go out with your new mates - twat"

Not the materials themselves strictly speaking.

But try selling off a ring. Jewellers won't give you anywhere near a good price.

The first part I cant even.

Regarding increasing the number of mental illnesses its not more that is increased its that we are more aware of different illnesses now. Also modern life can be more stressful as well. If you are ill and doctors says take this antibiotics and your infection will go? (for sake of argument we will say a kidney infection, which will not go on its own without an antibiotic) would you take that antibiotic? I can understanding questioning and seeking second opinions but at some stage you have to trust someone who has spent a long time studying etc. Not everyone is out to get you.

Thats how we have evolved we now realize we should treat mental illnesses the same as other illnesses.

On the whole diamond thing, I am fully aware of the whole early 20th century advertising campaign to popularise them but remember, diamond was a gemstone before that. That means that diamond, just like any other gemstone, was probably the favourite of some women before the campaign. Ask a crowd of late 19th century women what their favourite gemstone was and diamond would probably be mentioned alongside sapphire, ruby, emerald and the rest.

So these days, I am sure some women do genuinely like diamond the best of all the stones and to them, it doesn't really matter what the resale value of the ring is. An engagement ring has huge sentimental value for the wearer. I'm not a jewellery person, so never got an engagement ring but I know my married friends could not care less what their engagement ring is worth. It's missing the point a tad to think that the resale price is the only thing that matters in a diamond ring.

Yes, because we know precisely how antibiotics work and outside of resistance cases they work in everybody in a pretty precise way.
I can understanding questioning and seeking second opinions but at some stage you have to trust someone who has spent a long time studying etc.
I agree, however most of these drugs are doled out by local GP's. They do not have the required level of training as psychiatrists. Not even close. The clue is in their title. Secondly medicine has a tendency to have "fashions" in treatments, where therapies become a meme for a time. Human nature. Thirdly much of the information on all drugs comes from the makers of the drugs and a few have been dubious in which studies they released.
    caniask86 wrote: »

Not really. They operate in the same manner, different formulations from different makers, but all SSRI's. Again the clue is in the name. Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors.
    they alter the serotonin chemicals
Well... not so much. The theory behind their action is that they increase the level of serotonin(and maybe other neurotransmitters) in the brain, by reducing the mechanism where such chemicals are reabsorbed by the brain. More serotonin more "happy". The problem being that a) it's impossible to directly measure the levels of serotonin in a living brain, so anyone who says "serotonin imbalance" is expanding on a theory, not a proven biological fact and b) Serotonin = happy is extremely simplistic a notion. Different people have different levels. EG women have less than men. Does this mean women suffer more mental illness?*

*nope, rates about the same for both, may present differently though

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.
