quick question, if a chain says "Open with Rivet Link" does it come with a hollow pin or a solid pin for the link? solid is no good to me and nowhere seems to sell hollow pin links for this particular chain (chrome not gold..)

second question, would I be grand sticking a gold hollow pin link on a chrome chain? Would make keeping track of where I've cleaned on the chain handy anyway
Rivet link should have hollow pins.
You have a tool for fitting the link yeah?
0.5 millimetre is plenty to round the pins.
Don't go too much as you don't want it too tight.

thanks that saves all the hassle so. I don't have it but the guy up the road who has been doing loads for me on the bike has it and really knows his stuff micrometer measuring stuff and all so I'll be getting him to do it for me. He just said make sure I get hollow as he doesn't like swinging hammers at chains to do solid links which sounds fair enough

I'm getting a chrome did zxvm 525 chain and jt sprockets 15f 45r (stock gearing) have a good price for the chain on amazon but the jt sprockets I'm still looking for somewhere that has them, maybe going with https://www.carpimoto.it

it's 38 euro for them including vat & postage which isn't too bad, but then it's 44 euro from crossans so I might just go with them since I have ordered from them before and it would be faster etc. and actually coming from a real shop
I can't find anyone locally selling this stuff

Wemoto.com have 10% off DID chains and JT sprockets until the 30th.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra
I'm raptured by the joy of it all

Changed the spark plugs on the FZ1 yesterday. Ended up doing the coolant while I was at it as they are buried behind the radiator. Had to remove it to get access. So much for a handy job

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,731 ✭✭✭goodlad

Yeah its a pig of a job. Although when i done it i just unbolt the radiator and pushed it outa my way instead of removing it. Removed the AiS system while i was in there and put in block off plates.

DID zxvm chain in the post, yesterday bought tax for the bike,

today found out I've three days work in Galway at the weekend so this evening ordered jt sprockets, brake fluid, and brake cleaner spray from crossans

ordered front and rear caliper rebuilt kits including pins from ebay

saucy few days of spending but fook it if you spend it before the money sneaks into your account it's just like you never had it

Think I have finally finished all the bits on my bike, adjustable rearset fitted, some shorty levers, and braided lines,
Also found this great bag on Amazon, think it looks the business and a bit different

    Hi
Where did you source the levers? I'm looking for an adj. clutch lever for a V-strom.
    Thanks

I bought off Amazon, can't remember exactly but not expensive! As blade says Ali express will be equally good, I had no issues at all easy to fit and fit correctly,

Probably water resistant is probably the term for this bag, grand in the rain for short periods but I dunno how it would stand up in very wet conditions!
    You for Sandra's run tomorrow?

That's a shame. I'm looking for one I can just leave on the bike at work and not worry about it.

I'd love to go, but I'm stuck in work. :(

    Keep an eye on Adverts/dungdeal

I got a US-5 and a US-10 and the Waist pack plus the tank strap for the US series off some posh geezer in Dundrum 2 years ago, he was selling them and he had no clue whatsoever what they were or the value of them.

    Got the lot for €90!!!!!

I never ran so fast back to the car and left the scene as quick in my life....still laugh now when I think of it.

I did buy an R25 in megabikes for €100 and its the best money I ever spent.

Might as well win the lottery as come across someone like that but will keep an eye out

Was hoping to have my adjustable/folding levers today as they arrived in Dublin yesterday.
Might have been picked up by customs.

Rear Fairing was cracked when I bought the bike and cracked plastics, for me, are a big no no! :o

I have bearly been able to sleep knowing this was the way it was.
    IMG_20170703_132257.jpg

Brand new one fitted and some nice new decals also.
    IMG_20170703_132309.jpg

Also decided to check valve clearances.
    IMG_20170703_091005.jpg

Done the rear cylinder first and they were fine.
Of course everything was going too well.
A couple of awkward to get at bolts on the front cam cover but got them out and then went to loosen the last bolt, then Allen type head was rounded!
I'm half afraid to go at it incase I do more harm than good.
I had a new gasket and all as there was a bit of an oil leak from the old one.
I ended up just tightening up everything again for now.
Crackin' as I thought I'd have it finished with today!

My levers still haven't arrived
However tracking says they arrived in Cork at noon today so should have them tomorrow.

Was in Lidl earlier and came out and tried to start the Tuono but the battery was flat!
Rang a friend who dropped me home, took a battery out of another bike and drove my car back into Lidl.
Put battery into Tuono, which was bigger so I couldn't put the seat back on,fired her up and rode home standing up.
Got a spin back to Lidl for my car, got in it,drove to a bike shop for a new battery and then home!!
A lot of hassle that could have been avoided if the bike just didn't fire at home before I went to Lidl the first time!:pac:

You've got some good friends :)
Did you try push starting it, sometimes while not enough power exists to spin the motor there might be enough to keep it running

    Yep , wouldn't play ball.
Whole system shut down when clutch released.
Not sure if it's a safety feature so nothing will fry or is more power needed for fuel pump/ecu. Etc.

I remember my Tiger had a flat battery one time and the only way it would start was with a good battery.
Connecting a power pack to the old battery wouldn't do.
Just kept shutting down and resetting.

    Good friends you say?
Don't worry those bastards know only too well, what goes around comes around.
I'll suffer yet even though they probably owed me anyway! :pac::pac:

    LOL
Guess im thinking old school bikes before those tiny batteries had to power ECU's, fuel injectors, and a fuel pump

bled rear caliper this morning. First time ever bleeding brakes wasn't too bad. But the bleed nipple that came with the rebuild set was weeping and so I just went back with the previous one. No idea what to do if the two front ones weep also. Would going and getting plumbers tape work?

today I stripped front brakes off the bike altogether master cylinder lines splitter and calipers as one piece and then went about draining and cleaning, some awful amount of gunk compared to the rear caliper.

DID zvm X 525 chain arrived today too and it did come with the rivet link so that is good.

the little sliding bracket with the pins which actually screws onto the fork legs were both so filthy that I went at them with a scouring pad and the black powder coating came off so easily I wasn't sure if they were just silver and it was just dirt but now they're 75% silver with lots of old powder coating so will have to do something about that
