Okja will be added today at some point, as you may be aware. It is directed by a talented gentleman whose last film didn't even get released over here despite being excellent, so getting to see this will be nice even if it's a shame to see it instantly relegated to the small screen.

Additionally, Aquarius has been added. The Brazilian film may well be one of the best of the year so far, in no small part thanks to a tour de force performance from Sonia Braga. It is a long, considered character study in the best way, with moments of real poetry and grace.

Shame I'll never get to see Okja, as I won't ever subscribe to Netflix, but the good news is that Bong's next film is currently underway and it's going to be 100% Korean produced. There's been a huge backlash about this in his home country.

I started a new thread for that, as I figured the film and its creator were big enough names that they warranted /deserved a space to discuss, rather than get lost in the noise of this Recommendation thread:

The documentaries Cocaine Cowboys 1 & 2 also added to day the first one is really very good.

Cocaine Cowboys Reloaded is also on Netflix kind of an update of what happened to some of the people featured in the original and some more footage and backstories added, specifically Jorge Rivi. Although nowhere near as good still an interesting watch.

Has anybody watched The Circle yet? Watched the trailer last night and it looks OK and it's Tom Hanks so most likely at least watchable.

I just watched The Circle there and thought it was quite good. One or two silly bits but overall loved the pacing and plotting. Emma Watson is really good in the lead role and a great soundtrack from Danny Elfman. Nice to see Bill Paxton in his last role too.

Nearly finished house of cards season 5.. It's descending into farce at this stage.

    Ridiculous stuff

poor ending, felt unfinished tbh, as if they ran out of budget and said "ok lets wrap this up asap." Also a bit far fetched in terms of public acceptance.

Spoilers! Although in fairness I'm well behind, but still.

I thought The Circle was borderline unwatchable. Like a bad episode of Black Mirror intercut with the most cringe-worthy TED Talk imaginable. Massive embarrassment for everyone involved and a potential career-ender for Ponsoldt. The source material was presumedly intended to be satire, a fact which seems to have gone over his head.

Oh and Netflix's personalised matching system is such bullish*t. Amazing how everything they distribute or produce is a 95-99% match.
