After reading the comments from most of the pro abortion side, I'll probably be voting to keep the 8th. Decision made.

It's not PRO abortion, it's PRO CHOICE !!!

Yea, because social media ranting (from both sides) is always the way to decide important issues.

Ask yourself this... what's the better outcome for a woman who finds herself in the position? Because THAT is what matters here, not the agenda of those (again on both sides) who won't have to live with the decision either way.

Thanks for your input, myself and partner and most friends already decided to keep 8th. Unless it's a strict inclusion of medical reasons. Any opening of a British style system, we'd all be voting no.

Where is abortion allowed outside of special circumstances at 7 months and why do you think it will be allowed here?

It's almost as if people won't debate the actual issues.........

So you're basing your decision not on what will make it safer for women but "comments"

Then you announce your big decision looking for attention

    Pathetic post

If the 8th stays all it means is they keep travelling outside Ireland

    Sweeping it under the rug

Time for the country to get the training wheels off

I refuse to get drawn into the emotionally charged "argument" made by those who should have absolutely no say in what is a deeply individual and personal matter, influenced by a number of factors beyond such emotive blackmailing.

I've stated my position above. There is already an alternative that won't be going away but puts more pressure and stress on people facing such a decision. There's no reason to put them through that when they should be able to safely and legally have the abortion here IF that's ultimately their decision.

Why? Again, what is your life gaining by forcing women to travel to the UK for the procesure when it would be much safer physically and mentally to not have to travel?

The only difference it makes is to put hardship on women. Women are having abortions, people need to face up to this and stop sticking their head in the sand.

A simple case of looking at the numbers will show that plenty of people on the pro life side know people that have had abortions, be it friends or family members. They might not know the women have had them tho. Out of sight out of mind.......

And that sums up the entire debate really.

My comment from last night was deleted for some reason. Nothing inflammatory in it, simply a description of what kind of opposition we faced on Saturday.

do you honestly think that any party would introduce a bill that allowed unlimited abortion at any stage of pregnancy?

Looked like to me that it was a load of comments and replies to new accounts, which were possible re-regs/sock puppet accounts.

i wouldnt bother. there was a lot of this during the marriage referendum. People who claimed that the only decided to vote against it because of the actions of the Pro side. All nonsense of course.

That is a bit of a blanket non statement though.

First of all there is not much of a "pro abortion" side. At least with all my dealings with people who are pro-choice no one has identified themselves as that OR acted like they fit that title. When labeling the other side it is best to pick a label that does one OR the other, if not both.

No, most pro-choice people I know..... myself included..... are actually pretty anti abortion. We wish there was none happening, none ever required, and that no one ever had to make that choice.

And such people support every measure they can to reduce the number of abortions happening. Better, cheaper and wider access to contraception. More comprehensive, and EARLIER sex education in the state curriculum. More information on alternative choices for mothers. Better support for the kind of people (like single mothers) more inclined to have to consider abortion. And so on and so on.

Weirdly the kind of people I meet against abortion choice, are also against the measures like those that would aim to reduce people seeking abortions. I could not estimate, for example, the people who are AGAINST abortion by choice and are also AGAINST early education on sex for children in schools. Usually under some vague nonsense like "Oh we do not want to ruin the innocence of children" as if such a thing some how necessitates total biology ignorance.

But we still want them to HAVE the choice. The ideal world for the average pro-choice campaigner is a world where 100% of people have the choice but 0% of people ever need it. We can never reach that ideal I suspect, but we work towards BOTH in equal measure in a way a deliberately misleading and disingenuous title like "pro abortion" entirely ignores.

Few very obvious questions being outright ignored, but others around them being answered. Hmm. I wonder are some posts only visible from UK based ip's so people can just pretend they don't exist at all...........

I'm in favour of both life and choices, so the labels in this campaign leave me really confused.

Maybe look at it this way :

If a woman books time off, a ferry ticket and a clinic abroad - she's going

If it was freely available here I would reckon it may in some cases be more like " ah sure i can go get an abortion at any time" and then gradually come around to the idea " ah it wouldn't be so bad "

TLDR : us humans are funny creatures at the best of times
