Doesn't bode well for how much Stafford will eat. Not that he doesn't deserve it mind but whichever of the Lions, Raiders and Skins gets their qb signed first will be best off.

Chiefs extend Reid's contract then fire their GM

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,416 ✭✭✭letowski

Surprising that Dorsey is gone, he wont be out of a job long. Built a fine roster at KC, he got some risky calls right. I wonder why they were not willing to extend his contract after 2017..

If Ted Thompson is retiring next year, could work out nicely for Green Bay who were quite heavily linked to Dorsey (he spent 20 of 21 years in their staff before the KC GM job after spending all six years of his playing career there).

My understanding is that the answer is yes, your paycheque per game is liable to taxation where the game was played. So Carr will still have to pay state taxes on most away games. They are also liable for federal income tax.
Really? That's mad. Would have presumed it was wherever you've living you pay the tax. If my company send me abroad for a week I don't pay tax over there.

Any idea how it works for the London games?

You're paid per game in the NFL, so $16m a year is $1m per game. So you earn the money in the State you are playing in that week!

AFC South is the lowest jock tax division. Only the Colts have a State tax, at around 3% IIRC......

The UK brought in something similar a while ago for paying tax there.

Baseball players' accountants earn their fees then sorting out the tax for 162 games then!

I wonder could you get around this by converting salary to bonus a la how Brady reduced his exposure to the 4 game ban?

So apparently Zach Orr has had a change of heart over retirement and is exploring a comeback.

He is now an unrestricted free agent of course as the Ravens believed he had no intention of returning and thus did not tender him as a restricted free agent.

If he does indeed come back teams are going to have serious trust issues in the future about injury and retirement plans from players.

Gutted now if he comes back. He's a big loss as it is but to see him with another team would really rub salt in the wounds.

Doesn't he have a congenital spine injury? This is pretty surprising, to say the least.

Doctors apparently told him he's at no more risk than any other player.

Having a visit with the Lions tomorrow according to this:

    https://twitter.com/DanGrazianoESPN/status/880073726443757568

Seems to be quite a bit of interest in him which I suppose is not totally unexpected.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,475 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Apparently most doctors have advised against playing, and just a handful have said that he's not at more risk than others. I've no doubt some organisations medical team will pass his medical and will take the risk though, so hopefully it all works out well for him.

He's obviously a serious talent and was 2nd team all pro last year. But potential paralysis is not exactly an easy thing to mess around with.

It's a very odd case alright.
Not sure how he rose to that level, in that position, without ever having an issue with his neck.

I have a Vimeo link for all 8 episodes of the new All Or Nothing with the Rams. Fire me a PM whoever wants it. It's from a private forum so I don't want you post the links publicly in case it gets taken down.

I'm 5 episodes in to this and I have to say, it's fantastic. With Hard Knocks having stagnated a bit the past few seasons - and in my opinion that includes last years one of the Rams - All Or Nothing is a breath of fresh air. I know Hard Knocks has less to work with given that it's preseason only, but All Or Nothing is just must-see television.

I haven't got to his firing yet, but it's apparent that the players have a lot of respect for Jeff Fisher. He comes across really well in this.

He's the guest on the latest Adam Schefter podcast and discusses this amongst other things

Edit - Just listened and apparently the wrestling was a one off to honour his late uncle. He says his match was a debut and retirement match.

Always liked Williams surprised he hasn't been resigned by someone. Did a fantastic job as a back up for Bell and Pittsburgh the past two seasons.

No point in bringing in a Vet RB like that till you have to, sign him after the start of the season and you can cut him on the cheap then if needs be. (Sorry if that sounds cruel)

There's a great article on SI, on Bill Walsh. It was originally written in 2007 as he was battling lukemia and is a really good look at his career.
