    SBW banned for 4 weeks.

It's all a conspiracy I'm telling you, should have been 4 years.

He'll gladly take that. Misses the last test and one Super Rugby match.

    I'd hazard a guess at a 2 week ban for O'Brien with 1 suspended

If SOB gets banned (which I reckon he will) who will replace him - POM?

Sweet Jesus that citing is very soft.

Why was Peyper trying to persuade Garces it was yellow. All joking aside it is concerning that an 'elite' ref has that level of disregard for player welfare.

I've watched multiple times. Still can't see where Peyper says it should be a yellow.

Garces: "I think it should be red"
    Peyper: "Yes"

He mentions something about the force after the TMO gets involved again, but I don't once see him saying it shouldn't be a red or that it should be a yellow. If anything, the TMO was the one adding doubt to the decision.

I realise this doesn't fit the narrative, but would love to be shown how Peyper tried to influence a lesser penalty.

Will be interesting to see what they do if SOB is banned. They've a number of options.

POM straight back in is the obvious one. Stander possibly but I see that as unlikely. A bit left field would be to get Lawes on the field and move Itoje back. Would possibly get more guys on the field who are in form right now.

Also unlikely but could go for a straight swap with Tipuric to retain two breakdown players on the field.

Stander maybe with Warburton at 7. CJ for his carrying which we would lose if SOB is banned.

For all the shìt he has got this tour, AWJ becomes only the 7th Lion ever to play in victories over SA, Australia and NZ.

I have no idea who the other 6 are.

    Edit:

    Tony O'Reilly (1955, 1959)
    Rhys Williams (1955, 1959)
    Jerry Guscott (1989, 1993, 1997)
    Ieuan Evans (1989, 1993, 1997)
    Martin Johnson (1993, 1997, 2001)
    Jason Leonard (1993, 1997, 2001)
    Alun Wyn Jones (2009, 2013, 2017)

I've rewatched the game twice. Doesn't actually take that long. The ball was only in play for about 25 minutes which is extremely low.

But what has struck me is that AWJ was actually excellent for the opening 30 minutes. As in possibly the best Lion on the field. He was solid in the line out (won his ball and made a mess of a NZ throw), made a couple of shuddering hits which drove the carrier back, was all sorts of irritating at the ruck and was a leading figure in the mauls, particularly the one on the Lions 22 that marched NZ back 15m.

He faded after that and wasn't nearly as prevalent after the break but I don't think his test spot is in jeopardy now. I reckon they'll go with the same partnership next week particularly given how well it worked springing Lawes from the bench.

The knock on impact is that Iain Henderson probably won't see a a test jersey, if that comes to be true. I'd still consider him for the 20 jersey though if not the 19 spot (which won't happen).

If like to see Henderson in the squad, but Lawes was decent off the bench so I can't see him getting dropped. No way Itoje or AWJ lose their starting spots either.

Can't decide whether or not Vunipola will start. He's an excellent carrier and generally a strong defender. But was a liability yesterday. McGrath isn't as strong in the loose but has a great work rate and and tackled with real venom when he came on.

That's a fairly incredible statistic simply by virtue of the fact that you almost certainly need to be selected for 3 Lions tours in a row as an initial requirement (in modern times). That in itself narrows it down to a tiny number.

The guys who did it in '89, '93 and '97 are all all time greats but I suppose they really benefit from having one coach who ran all three tours and therefore was picking them.

I'd be very harsh on Leonard (who McGeechan proclaims to be his greatest Lion) and say that he was a sub in the wins against SA and Australia so probably not at the same level as the others. AWJ himself was a sub against SA in 2009 too.

Very special achievement regardless and puts him straight into a bracket of the greatest Lions.

From memory the lions won the series in 89 and 97 and were denied by a very dodgy penalty in 93 apparently (dunno why but I have no real memories of the 93 series, but remember campeses gift in 89 very well)

We see if they win this weekend...

This is the third game in Eden Park and I suppose since tickets are pretty expensive maybe people are thinking they might just watch it on the box.

If the Lions win on Saturday there will be at least 15 new additions to that bracket.

Not sure about the rest but I doubt we'll see much of the Irish guys much in September.

Irish guys will get a month off. Wouldn't be surprised if the English guys were treated a little less generously. I seem to remember them playing in September the last time.
