What's a sensible % discount to reasonably expect on a new GTI?
I imagine i'm not in an overly strong position, buying made-to-order, trading in a 9-year old car and availing of PCP.
Does the money tend to come off the sticker price or through a more generous trade-in?

When I was buying from Skoda a few months back... I went to 3 garages and got trade in/discount prices etc..

I then went back to the best initial price and inflated the trade in prices I got from one of the other garages by another 1500e (told them that I would prefer to buy from them, they are local etc.. but I would travel 50 miles to save 1500)... they bet that price by 100e without much issue. Maybe I should have inflated more.

I wonder what sort of margins dealers get on new cars.

For a straight no trade in deal you'd probably hope to get 6-7%.

Ordered mine today. 5dr Dark Iron Blue GTI Performance DSG. One or two bells and whistles but managed not to go overboard! Won't have a delivery time till they put it through on Monday, dealer reckons 10 weeks but I think that's being optimistic.

Fair play, nice one. I think that colour will look well. I had blue graphite on a MK5 GTI which looked the nuts in the sun with the GTI red bits and from pics I've seen the dark iron blue looks very similar to blue graphite.
Go on, what bells and whistles did you add on?

I also had a Mk 5 GTI in Graphite Blue back in 2006 and it was a great colour. I recall the VW dealer trying to put me off ordering that colour, saying it wouldn't be a great choice for a GTI, but when it was delivered, he agreed it looked great.

Yeah it was a relatively rare choice back then when greys and grey-blues were a bit less in vogue than they are now!

Well done. Go on, what bells & whistles. We want specifics! They're all saying 10-12wks, let's hope it's true or at least not too far off the mark.

Dynamic Chassis Control, Technology Pack, Parallel Park Assist (it will be a family car / don't judge me :)), Alarm, Digital Radio Reception

I've just had a look at the configurator again and I see they have now made keyless with safelock an option which is compatible with the alarm (and seem to have added another option for a heated windshield). They must have been added pretty late on Friday because I was on the configurator a good few times over the week and didn't see them. Think I might give him a shout on Monday morning and add the keyless.

Did you use the VW SD that came with the car? The Satnav won't accept any random card unfortunately.
I had the same problem with those nav files. I did an update for the previous years fine on my own SD card.

    Hi all,

Does anyone know the service interval on the standard petrol Golf DSG? Also how much is a service at a main dealer or what does service pack they offer have? Can't find a manual online :(

I should have inquired more into servicing but the only time we spoke of it was when I told the salesman I wasn't paying €300 for the service pack because the previous sales guy said it was free.

15k Kms or once per annum. Whichever is sooner.
Service price will vary a bit depending on what needs done. First service (oil and filters) is less than 150 I'd say.

Keyless is a very nice and useful feature.

This probably isn't an easy question to answer as everyone's different but did anyone see a huge increase in insurance going to a GTI or an R from a normal car? I'm a new driver waiting for a 172 1.0 TSI Golf to arrive but I would like to get a GTI or an R for my next car in 3 years. I can afford the finance of an R along with the tax and fuel costs I just don't know what my insurance would be. I would have liked the 150bhp Golf but some places were pulling €3,000 quotes out of their arse on the 110bhp.

I'm currently looking at €1,400 on the Golf with my mam as a named driver. I'm 25 and got my full licence this year so I'm hoping to build up 2-3 years no claims but I would like the option of trading the Golf in before the 3 year PCP is up if insurance is reasonable. I know most of you probably have a lot more driving experience than me but how scary of a jump could I expect?

Absolutely. Had it on a rental Mustang in the states and loved it. It doesn't make life much easier but it is nice to have something a little different.

By "new driver" you mean you have only just passsd the test, etc?
You're probably a bit mad to be getting into a new car at all in that case tbh. With no NCB and a relatively new licence, prepare to bend over in a big way for insurance.
There's many variables to it but generally speaking if you're over 30, have several years ncb, live in a perceived low-risk area, work in a low-risk (desk) job, then you won't have much trouble insuring a GTI. The R is no more expensive to insure in those circumstances.

Passed the test in February so don't have no claims or anything, I would like to have the option of going for a GTI or an R in 2-3 years after I trade the current Golf in. Live in a quiet area, steady desk job etc. just need to build up some no claims but I'm not sure if 2-3 years would be enough and I know my age is going against me too. Currently driving a 151 i30 daily but on an open policy so have to start from scratch.

I just don't want to be stuck driving a hair dryer until I'm 35. Drove a Mustang in Orlando for two weeks and loved every second of it. It would just be nice if I have the option of getting a car I want and not have to build a decade of NCB or anything.

You can do them on 15k km/ 12 month intervals or on 30k km flexible time intervals.

The service prices are flat rate across any dealer afaik. The first 3 services on a Golf are €169 oil change, €189 oil change and cabin filter and €219 oil and brake fluid change. This makes the service pack quite good value if they are offering it for €300, I thought it was €600 ish.

If you are going the service plan route you have to use the 15k kms intervals as you can not claim a service after 45k kms (within reason)

Ah, that I didn't. So I need to take that card out, wipe it and load your file onto it? Does removing that affect any of the other media functions?

Yeah, I just took the card out, copied the old files off, deleted them and copied the new ones on. Had no issues with media, should only be nav data on the SD.

Cheers I'll try that and see how I go.

I have a chance to purchase a clubsport next week. Test drove it today. Really enjoyed it. Loads of power all through the rev range.

However, problem is a performance pack 7.5 is almost €5k cheaper.

Has anyone test driven a 7.5 performance pack? It now has 245ps and there can't be a huge difference in performance between it and a clubsport?

The manual performance pack has only been available to order for about 6 weeks and the DSG performance pack for about 2 weeks. They actually haven't finalised the pricing on the latter. I don't think there are any 7.5 performance packs in the country yet. You might be able to test drive one up north. I put in an order for a DSG performance last week and am hoping to have it around September, but haven't got a build week yet.

Anybody buying the GTD? Despite all the talk of the end of diesel they are still the majority seller but I don't known if I've ever seen a GTD!

I'd actually say you don't see that maybe, I'd say they are outnumbered by the GTi maybe 5 to 1.
