Anyone no if Paul Boyle Charlie Connelly colm hogan David McCarthy or Jordan Dugan got offers from anywhere?
Colm Hogan is in Trinity and away on erasmus next year. I understand he will be in France so Munster have arranged he will play/train with a team over there
Some of them are only u19s so even less of issue about offers.
Colm hogan > Liam Coombes...Conor fitz is lucky to be there as well
Who are all the alternatives better??

Jack Aungier must be the youngest player to have been recruited into an academy, and he'll have 3 years in the u20's i believe

that is not correct, Aungier was born in 1998. He has one year of under-20 eligibility left.

No player has or ever will join academy with 3 years to play at 20s level. Dont think we'll ever really see anyone play 3 years of irish 20s
That would mean a kid doing leaving cert as an under 17(ie turning 17 the calender year they do the leaving cert) which happens but isnt that likely and a province would never do that as there is so much that can change and any kid like that would simply be sub academy and train with province before being added to academy the following season if they continued to progress.

no it hasnt been set yet and even when it is it wont be published

No. The full list of a provinces sub academy has virtually never been published and never will. It constantly is changing any way. The only time ive seen seen a list is when Munster published a list of their sub academy in programme of Munster Australia game in 2010

your guess is as good as mine..

and educated guess can be made on them though.

Looking at both Leinster/Munster academies, you'd have to say they Leinster Academy has the more elite talent.

    Munster
    Calvin Nash(Wing)
    Gavin Coombes(Backrow)
    Fineen Whycherly(Second Row)
    Shane Daly(Centre/Fullback)
    Craig Casey(Scrumhalf)

    Leinster
    Jordan Larmour(Wing)
    Jack Kelly(Wing/Fullback/Centre)
    Tommy O'Brien(Wing/Centre)
    Caelan Doris(Backrow)
    Hugh O'Sullivan(Scrumhalf)
    Ronan Kelleher(Hooker)
    Jack Aungier(TH Prop)

  • I know absolutely zip about Ronan Kelleher but Leinster could certainly do with him coming through strongly at hooker.

Now that Ryan has been moved to a senior contract are there any prospects at lock?

I haven't seen a ton of Jack Kelly but tbh I'm getting a Brendan Macken vibe from him, dominated at schools level with power and pace but we'll see how he goes at a higher level. I could be totally wrong.

Kelleher has the all round game, just needs to stay healthy and probably improve his throwing technique.

Dowling is a good prospect there but lacks size to be a elite prospect, but the next big one is Jack Dunne, who has the size required to be a top level tighthead lock. He was starting for Ireland U19 there and was visibly much bigger than his ulster counterparts at second row. Charlie Ryan is another player to watch out for at that position.

Kelly's long term future is either at wing or fullback, he played most of the season carrying an injury and I think was harshly judged. He was ireland's best back against scotland. Maybe you are right about him being another Macken, personally I don't think so, Macken was never viewed as a leader and didn't have the positional versatility Kelly has displayed.

What does getting an academy place entail?  Do these guys still study for a third level qualification?  Do they get paid or uni fees covered etc?
    Thanks

I'm fairly sure third level of some sort is strongly encouraged if not mandatory in the Leinster academy at least. They do get paid but it's not much at all, you'd earn as much in any part time college job to the best of my knowledge.

New academy contracts worth €8k per year no mandatory 3rd level courses required altough most do a 3rd level qualification especially if they get a college scholarship as well and priorty on waiting list for student accomadation. Makes perfect sense to be a student like the rest of their mates while getting financial support to do so

I know people hear these comments all the time, but I heard from a friend that Joe Dunleavy is supposed to be a serious talent. Has anyone seen him play or know anything about him? I believe he's a back row.

He is good, how good is debatable... would be great to see a Donegal man succeed at Ulster though.

    Think he is a No.8.

The thing is some of those guys listed will live up to their potential, some won't and some may even surpass it. As letf says it would be great to see a Donegal lad break through and become a mainstay of the team like Tommy has done.

Maybe I have it wrong, and letf will probably know but isn't there a guy in the U19s, Oisin Kearnan I think, also from one of the three "non NI counties"?

Yeah he is from Cavan, I believe. Still in school I think.

all recommended to study for one. Fees won't be covered but many players can get scholarships in university
