No - the one they do later that Sunday evening. I normally hear the beginning on the morning broadcast and the rest of it in the evening.

So, by "Seriously Addictive Sundays", they actually mean a prepeat of The Classics?

The BAI have advertised for expressing of interest for new radio stations to broadcast on the fm band nationally and Radio Nova have submitted their interest saying they would be ready to broadcast nationally with in two months. According to the BAI website there are not advertising new radio broadcasting licences. Going by that I take it any current independent radio stations wanting to broadcast on the fm band nationally can apply.

If TXFM were still going strong I would HAPPILY see them go national. Even Jimmy Dignam of the Workers' Party said so. They were five times better than Nova, much more diverse, and had better presenters like Cathal Funge, Kelly-Anne Byrne and John Cadell.

It's looking more and more likely. According to an article on Radio Today website Radio Nova are the only ones that have submitted there expression of interest. I would love to hear them broadcast in my area on fm as we have very little choice where I live.

Well in that case, I hope they include more TXFM-type music on the playlist, and not repeat the same songs every day. It's a good station, but it could be so much better. There's only so much U2 or Rolling Stones I can listen to in a week, and I think they should definitely play bands old and new, mainstream and underground. Not criticising big name bands, but it is nice to have a bit of variety. If I ran Nova The Temperance Movement, The Record Company, Tax the Heat, The Sheepdogs etc would DEFINITELY be on the playlist. There is a market for those bands, without a doubt. I love them and I'm fairly sure a number of Irish people do as well.

People outside its current catchment area would finally find out what all the fuss about Pat James on Sunday nights (Off the Record) is all about, and I don't think they would be disappointed either!

I did think of that! It's just the convenience factor of having a station on FM - it still counts for quite a bit.

Sounds like something a socialist would say.

Now that you mention Carlow, I was there listening to TXFM online while they were in their final moments of broadcasting.

Gotta say, that doesn't make your point any less strange.

Still isn't is nice someone agrees with me that Ireland should have a nice, diverse rock and alternative station?

For all it's flaws, Nova actually isn't too bad. If it weren't for me finding Dee and Marty back in the day, I'd probably still be listening to Morning Ireland even though I didn't particularly like hard news so early in the morning. I simply couldn't tolerate the forced muppetry from Colm and Jim Jim, Dermot and Dave, Gift Grub and the like.

I feel the playlist has improved somewhat. I haven't noticed myself saying "hang on, this doesn't belong here" as much, like I did this time last year. Although maybe it's just me.

I know TXFM had its fans but to me it seems like they're a very vocal minority. Commercially, the best you could probably hope for would be an indie show as opposed to playing these tracks throughout the day, but even that would be better than what you have now on FM; nothing. Whether you like it or not, there's a fair few people who would be like "I don't know this crap" and turn it off or go somewhere else. That's one of the problems with appealing to a mass market but as a business, that's what you have to do to keep running.

So I'm happy enough for now, but something will probably annoy me again soon. :pac:

Doesn't look like it will be fully national, just read on radiotoday the response from Nova to the BAIs announcement. A lot of areas are mentioned but not Sligo or the northwest. I wonder why,we have all the other national stations from Truskmore .

    Ah ffs

Truskmore has a decent catchment area, annoying to see it's not mentioned.

Don't know why Truskmore is always left out, we never got 4FM or even Christmas FM!

They do play a lot of The Pixies - not as much as U2 but still hear them every day.

The Mission were played by Courtenay...a "Listeners choice" ....sometimes i think theyre still testing the water with some tracks instead of Brannigan growing a pair and letting them play different stuff....

Tipperary is not on the list either. I pick my signal up from Maghera and I can get 4fm from overspill as it broadcasts to Limerick City and surroundings so hopefully I will be able to pick Nova up the same way. Looks like unless your living in the cities that are well populated we can forget about new stations launching on fm in our couties.
