Golf damage repair estimate

The missus just crashed the golf, a 2017 mkvii, by reversing out of a space in tesco and took the side out of it. The front bumper and fender are crumpled, bonnet and door seem completely fine.
Any estimate on a rough repair price before I take it down the garage monday??

The front fender and bumper will definitely need coming off and replacing

If it's an all new wing and front bumper, you're talking €400-€500 in parts, plus labour, materials (paint) and VAT. Good bit north of €1000.

Might need parking sensors, acc sensor plus calibration. I'm guessing €2k all in.

Most main dealers don't do bodywork. They'll farm it off to one of the local indie bodyshops. They'll probably recommend one to use if you ask but you might as well go to them direct then.

Bodyshops can be a bit of a minefield though and most aren't retail orientated.

If in doubt and you want a good standard of work done I'd take it to a main dealer. Even if it's sub contracted, it should go to an approved repaired.

They may save the bumper, but that wing is toast. Reversing too fast? Looks like she hit the trolley bay or something.

Hard to see in the pictures but there is a fair few cracks on the bumper.
Turns out she was reversing out and caught one of the beams (one of those tescos with the car park on the ground floor and the store upstairs)

Yup. Lights work fine but think its all one unit? So will need fully replacing.

Ah right. So bumper, headlight unit and wing. It happens. Hopefully she isn't in too much trouble

Seen the same thing happen in the clarehall Tesco recently, except the woman driving drove straight into the beam.

Looks like a good 2 grand sadly.

Well some of us are warned not to park near other cars,not to park near trolley bays,park miles away from the actual shops ,park in a corner in work,don't park beside women drivers,don't go near cars with baby seats or baby on board signs ect.,mind the alloys ect.ðŸ˜

OP hope it's not too expensive for you..those pillars could catch anyone out..dying to know how you reacted,I'd probably be hearing about it for the rest of my life ðŸ˜

While it's really annoying at least you don't have to deal with a third party claim all sorts of personal injuries dragging out a claim for years looking to retire on their ill-gotten gains!

Got quoted 4700 from VW. Crazy expensive.
Since I bought it on HP, would there be any repercussion if I went to a 3rd party to get it repaired? Lose of warranty I expect?

OUCH. I bought a 5 year old for a few hundred more than that a couple of days ago.

I suspect it's more of a contractual thing rather than a warranty thing, where any damage, while paying the HP must be carried out by a VW approved repairer. Check your contract. Would insurance not cover it?

You won't lose your warranty point blanc. Things like paintwork warranty and anti perforation warranty in the effected areas will be lost, similarly, if the repaired use a non genuine headlamp etc it may compromise and potential claims relating to wiring etc down the line.

The thing is is VW want that kind of price it's obviously a sizeable repair and with the car being brand new and worth €30k do you really want to skim on a potentially substandard repair?

Ultimately it won't affect your finance agreement to repair it with a 3rd party but it will devalue the car if a below standard repair is spotted at trade in time or if it's recorded online as having an insurance claim against it which could compromise your potential equity if you are on PCP.

That's not to say all non VW repairs will be poor quality by any means, but just like with mechanics, you need to be careful, for every good panel beater, there's a cowboy who will undercut them.

Does it actually work like that though?

Or does a body shop want €4700 retail for to do the job themselves, if a dealer gets them the work they will ask the dealer to sell the job for €4700 retail and they will sell the job to the dealer for trade price ( -10% or whatever).

So the price is the same for the consumer no matter where you go, but the dealer gets a cut if they secure the work but from the consumers point of view the car went through an approved repairer.
