I just saw them in Dunnes, Kilnamanagh this evening. €6 each and nicely marbled.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,950 ✭✭✭B0jangles

Dunnes are selling 1.5 kilo boxes of cherries for 5.99 at the moment, which works out at 3.99 a kilo - well below the usual price which in my experience is anywhere between 12-18 euro a kilo.

You might have to poke over a couple of boxes to get mostly good ones, but its a really great deal if you are pretty much happy to live on cherries for a while (like me!)

(That's not the box as I bought it, I'd say about a pound was already gone out of it at that point :))

I think I'll pick up a box at the weekend and make a cherry pie! It's a big job stoning almost 100 cherries but worth it :)

Absolutely dying for a pile of creamy mash. I can never seem to get it right! Popping into Aldi in a while to grab a few bits, what variety of potato would give the best mash when steamed?

I nearly always use roosters, they're nice and floury.

I like a maris piper for mash. Or for anything, really. Failing that, roosters.

Mash it really well, and add plenty of butter/salt for perfect deliciousness, and a splash of milk or cream.

Thanks, I usually get the whites. Picked up a bag of rooster today but didn't get a chance to cook so that's tomorrows dinner sorted.

Tesco Sweet Vine Ripened Tomatoes are delicious and a steal at 39c
The smaller ones taste as though I grew them myself!

    Hey guys

Could anyone recommend anywhere to get some breakfast/brunch type food in Drumcondra?

Somewhere central and that isn't too expensive?

I was in The Ivy House before but it's a bit far out for me, so somewhere closer to Dumcondra centre?

FYI I was just in Dunnes Cornelscourt again and these are now reduced to 3.99, (Have to pick the boxes over to check for squashy ones though)

Guess what I couldn't resist buying...

    Andersons creperie is quite nice.

Anderson's Food Hall off Griffith Ave does a beautiful breakfast. Nothing earth-shattering, but top-notch ingredients cooked very well. One of the best I've ever had.

Edit: Oops! If the Ivy House is beyond your nort soide limit, Anderson's Food Hall would be marked 'Here be Dragons!" :)

Thanks a mill, are they the same place?

The Ivy House I was in is the one opposite the Skylon hotel, is Anderson's food hall near there?

To get to the Food Hall go past the Skylon then left on Griffith Ave, go almost to the end (Glasnevin) & it is on the right down a small road called The Rise.

They're owned by the same people, with slightly different menus. The creperie is about 2 minutes walk from Quinns in Drumcondra, the other is on the rise (off griffith avenue).

Thank you both so much. Probably a stupid question, but what type of food do they do?

EDIT: I found their menu here, I don't think it's somewhere I'll be going as the people that I will be with would not be into that type of food at all. Something far more plain (or "normal" as they say) is what they'd be into :(:o

The Lovely Food Co on Lower Drumcondra Road do a weekend brunch...

I've never been, so can't give a personal recommendation. Also, no prices quoted makes me wary.

Anywhere I could buy adobo in Ireland ? I'm in Galway but have a sister in Dublin ...

Is adobo not a stew-like dish that you make?

It can be lots of things including a seasoning apparently ...

    http://www.foodandwine.com/fwx/food/what-is-adobo

As an aside, when people are asking on here where to buy obscure ingredients that probably only a small number of people have heard of, a short explanation of what it is and where it comes from wouldn't be too much to ask, would it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,950 ✭✭✭B0jangles

My local Supervalu used to have cans of chipotles in adobo from the 'La Coste?a' range -other branches might still have them?

Few funny ones today. Having pizza for dinner, made the dough and popped out to the shop for peppers, mushrooms and sweet corn. I asked the 4 year old daughter what else she would like on the pizza. Cauliflower she says!

Then at home when I was blitzing the veg to make the sauce, I asked what colour peppers to use. We had already done red onion. She suggested green and yellow, as the colours would look nicer. And she was right.

    Hi all,

Heading to Dublin next month for a night with Mrs. Loire. Can anyone recommend a decent restaurant? Somewhere with a good buzz and really good food. Not really looking for white linen rather something more relaxed but very good. Last time we went to Fade St Social and somewhere like that would be perfect. Also, if anyone could recommend somewhere close by with decent cocktails that would be good too!

    Thanks!

Ive never eaten in here, but determined to go next time we get a night away; number 22. It's a cabaret night and supposed to be great fun. It definitely focuses on entertainment but seems to get dcent reviews for food too.

What a beautiful day! Spent the afternoon making pizza bases and pizzas with the small one. Bought a load of stuff in an Italian deli yesterday and all ready for some proper all fresco dining tonight with some chilled dessert wineðŸ˜

If you like Thai food, Koh is fantastic. They do fabulous cocktails too, great buzz in the Italian quarter
