Where did you get your medical degree? I'm thinking your teachers may have skipped a few chapters of the books ....

    see post 90.

It's absolutely none of your business what treatment they proposed for her.

Are you going to address the rest of my post or just this part?

Of course I don't need to know the specifics related to her specific case - but I think its important to understand whether people's dignity are taken into account in such decisions - and as best practice what 'types' of treatment can be proposed to pregnant people in such circumstances.

    Was she due soon.

Maybe its just a good idea to give someone whos unstable a little time to cool off before making big decisions.

    Whats the rush.

Poor girl. This is completely inhumane. Give her equal rights FFS.

It is equal though, men and women can't have abortions either.

Can we please get professionals that stop mixing politics and their opinions in with their treatments.

Why are you bringing your politics to bear on their decision? They could've reached that decision through any number of ways.

If abortion is murder then doesn't that make a miscarriage manslaughter? After all, if you believe the foetus in the womb deserves the same rights as a child outside of it then surely you should be getting the placards out for the women who neglected their child to death while they were in the womb.

Nobody intends on having a miscarriage... Trying to conflate them is clutching at straws, it's the same as saying masturbation is murder. It does your argument no logical favours, you're comparing a wilful act with an unfortunate but natural occurrence.

What's best practice? That's what is pertinent.

Men can't have abortions because men cannot get pregnant.

Maybe the psychiatrist who worked directly on the case would know.

Should a man have a right to request an abortion if he doesn't want the baby?

No matter what anyone thinks - the fact that according to reports, it seems that the child in question and her mother were under the impression they were going to Dublin for a termination of the pregnancy, but that this is not what happened - is outrageous. Who was dealing with them and how were they communicated with?

You can read about the case here -

Child Care Law Reporting Project - Order detaining pregnant girl seeking abortion discharged

I really don't see what's so outrageous about it?

No no. Equal rights are only for some of the things.
You know - the good stuff.

Best practice is usually outlined in health care policy - if we do indeed adhere to best practice.

No. He shouldn't. He's not the one who's pregnant.

There are many men in Ireland who can indeed get pregnant and should that happen (if it hasn't already) they would be subject to the very same laws which pregnant women currently are.

Within the confines of the law of course.

That doesn't really go into any details about what led them to believe that they were going for her to have an abortion.

The communication issue is important. They believed they were travelling to Dublin for something that was not going to happen. What made them think that?

Should a man be free to abandon his child then and not have to contribute to its life in any way?

I don't know, but it could just as easily have been the case that they assumed they were travelling to Dublin for an abortion without anyone ever having suggested any such thing.

This is under the assumption that men instinctively abandon their children.

Think of the men who, due to fertility issues, try so hard to create a life.

Then any hope of that life coming to fruition is taken from them without due consideration.

Of course. I'm referring to treatments outside of abortion. So surely we should be following best practice here (even if our laws on abortion itself may not)

Maybe, maybe not. Why can't we know what the guidelines are?

No he isn't. The Mother can request the State/Court garnish his wages to pay for child support.

No WOMAN should be allowed murder a child if she wants to.

    Agreed.

Although enforcement is where the inherent problem lies, for those men who fail to adhere to their responsibilities.

OK. Everyone with a torch or pitchfork put it down and stfu.

Kid was ruled mentally unwell. This is not the time to do any surgery, be it a nose job, a ''gender reassignment'' or an abortion.

You put a person with psych issues in a psych care ward ... Then when they're feeling a little calmer you ask them what they want.

You may find their new, post-naughty step opinion can differ slightly to their earlier, sometimes rather more dramatic, wishes.

Wait a minute, did you really just suggest that people with psychiatric issues simply need to be locked away on a "naughty step" until they cop themselves on?
