On a serious note, you can voice your disagreement all you like. That's life. Where it stops being alright is when you start making death threats etc against someone. Unless you think that she deserved to get death threats?

Scroll back up a bit. :)

Being a member of an unlawful organisation is an offence. If you are found guilty in court, then you are sentenced.
    There is no internment.

You are found guilty on the word of a police officer. No proof is needed. Just that. A formality.

The internment of Catholics in northern ireland was designed to intern IRA members. It failed because it didn't just do that.

    Not true.
I suggest you spend a day in the special criminal court, a Chief superintendent can give evidence of his belief, which is based on evidence he has, which the judges are entitled to hear. Also, no one gets convicted of membership on that one piece of evidence alone, there is other evidence given.

You don't..i suggest you read some of the clearly written passages and come back.

    Maybe you can enlighten me?
What has religion to do with a person holding a machete?
Surely if anyone came into a pub holding a machete it would be cause for concern?

Is she though? Maybe she isn't an expert on "The History of Internment", maybe she perceives a threat and just goes with her first response - "Lock 'em up!. " Maybe she has a point. Maybe we're just gone so namby-pamby that anyone suggesting anything apart from hugs is branded a "fascist"? Maybe someone ought to provide a better solution, one that beats hers? As opposed to lying back and waiting? My version is "Lie back and wait" tbh, but I may be dumber than her. She does better than I do anyway, career wise.

Maybe to all of those things, but I think it's much more likely she's a dope expressing a view on something that she hasn't thought about very much before.

I don't agree with what she said but what's the deal with all the hate?

    It seems she's 31, not 19. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vogue_Williams

I'm about as bothered as I am about some crap Vogue Williams said in an off-guard moment.
Writing a 'newspaper column' is not an "off-guard moment".

The whole 'writing something down, having it checked by a sub-editor and approved by an editor' suggests is wasn't something that was just said over coffee / pints.

Comparing this to the north is utter madness. This is very different.

She will regret her forced apology. Internment will be a reality in the next 5 years after people get bored of empty platitudes

As much as I dislike hate-stirrers I don't think people like Anjem Choudary and Katie Hopkins should be interned.

This is the level of intelligence you get when you give a bimbo a column for opening her legs.

She is using tragedy to get her name in the papers. Which is horrible. She wouldn't weigh in on the more boring political stories of the day which she has not the intelligence to navigate around.

She is educated enough to know what she is doing. But stupid enough to do it. Worst kind of person.

She thinks it will sell by appealing to a certain type of person...instead of just relying on the quality of her column to sell. It will backfire. You polarize people so much and say extreme stuff eventually no one wants your work. It happened with Tami Lahren. Her longevity relies on not taking boom bust media moves.

On 4 June 2017, in the wake of terrorist attacks in Manchester and London, Williams wrote an opinion piece for Sunday World entitled "Internment camps are grim necessity", which called for the establishment of internment camps for the detention without trial of "3,000 [Muslim] extremists living in the UK"

I am all for hardline on crime and terrorists of any kind irish or muslim ..but the above is crazy and i think she sounds like nazi!

It was her column, she was already in the paper.

Ahh, she actually is though. She is genuinely a nice person. Maybe she doesn't know much about politics or world affairs. From what I see of people in their 20/early30s, thats pretty much the norm.
She is just reacting to something that she doesn't understand. How many of us really do?

While I don't take any notice of the so called "Irish Celebrities" and their antics, you're a bit harsh with the "level of intelligence" remarks. Unlike most of the air heads and five minute wonders that the Sunday Independent loves, she did get a degree in Quantity Surveying from UCD.
Not a particularly easy subject .

I think what she really doesn't understand is how to navigate a long term career in the public eye if you are in journalism of some type. Maybe she wanted the controversy.

I don't think you would need to understand world politics to understand that saying that right now is not kind.

The column should be considered as alt right as breitbart.

I trust security services to advise us without knee jerk reactions. But calling for knee jerk reactions from security forces from the media is not going to help them advocate to the public moderate but adequate reactions.
And obv some things you have to do for security sometimes might mean careful consideration of rights vrs safety. This knee jerk reaction pervading the media is not one of integrity. And it's not well thought out.

I do respect her for the apology though. It would have been easier for her to say nothing. http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/banter/trending/i-made-a-mistake-and-im-sorry-but-the-reaction-i-got-death-threats-doesnt-promote-debate-vogue-williams-on-internment-comments-35813213.html I respect that. And no way she should get hostility or threats against her.

And in fairness she did make that a part of her career. And it's a TERRIBLY BADLY written article. It's just bad.

She is just trying to create content for another one of her amazing documentaries:

    Vogue Williams does internment camps

Her level of writing and political analysis does not warrant publication or getting paid money for it. It's not good enough. I am being honest after reading it. If she sent that in anon it would not get published. She isn't good enough.

And that last line seems to be your main problem with her.

Why the outrage? Change the channel, read a less lowbrow media, no need to be crude and bitter.

Free speech!! I would rather say it than be fake ..oh yeah I like the right wing posh rich girl having things handed to her being nasty to minorities...

That would mean I was lacking integrity.
