Big second half coming up for Clare. If we are ever going to beat Kerry it has to be today, level at half time, Kerry down to 14 men and we have the wind in the second half

Yep need to win this. We're gone beyond moral victories at this point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,060 ✭✭✭✭Tell me how

Not a bad performance but still gulf in class is obvious.

As said above, level at the half, decent wind at their backs and a man advantage should be getting closer. Even more so with the start they made to 2nd half.

Felt they conceded way too many frees.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,443 ✭✭✭Boots234

Even though we were a man up Kerry always had a man free on their kick outs and it was very difficult to win the ball back as they came up the field. Large crowd from Kerry at the game

kerrys subs were the difference to be able to bring on the likes of stephen o'brien , donaghy , brian sheehan and buckley , thats serious experience to be bringing on in a tight game

the 2nd half conditions suited kerry better then the first as the heavy rain cleared but there is no doubt in what was the turning point of the match

jamie malone hitting the crossbar 1-1 with the kerry keeper on the 45minute , had it been converted it would have set daylight between the sides with just over 20 minutes to go , it acted as a huge wake up call to kerry who took over the game for the next 15 minutes going from 3 down to 3 up

stephen o'briens goal at the end was absolutely beautiful , the nail on the coffin for our chances at gaining a munster final spot but it did flatter the scoreline somewhat

we now enter the more tricky side of the draw in the qualifiers joined by mayo today and the losers of tyrone and donegal next week we will face the winners of one of the following in round 2 on the first of july , lets hope we can repeat another run to croke park like last year

    waterford or derry
    louth or longford
    sligo or antrim
    wicklow or laois

sums up the game pretty well , we need to kick on now though in the qualifiers and go as far as we can , only thing that worries me is the lack of depth on the bench most of whom are very young and inexperienced for the type of game today presented hopefully we learn and improve from today

Do you have list of who was on bench today? Would have been difficult to introduce young lads to Division 2 but will have to be done next year.Where did Davy O'Halloran disappear to?

    bench today was

killian roche gk ( cooraclare )

    john hayes ( kilrush )
    seanie malone ( miltown )
    cian 'odea ( kilfenora )

the remaining have had little or no intery county action this year with all bar eoin collins were u21 last year or are still under 21 now

    eoin collins (ballyhaunis)
    kerian malone (miltown)
    killian brennan (clondegad)
    david egan (kilmihil)
    darragh bohannon (shannon gaels)
    darren nagle (liscannor)
    gearoid o'brien (kilrush)

davey dropped out last year as far as i know , but worryingly a number of descent players dropped out of the panel back in the winter some due to work one or two trying to hurling , for example mikey o'neill and mikey o'malley were both on the panel in the league for the footballers but are now on the extended panel for the hurlers

but hurling cant be the blame here , kilrush, shannon gaels , liscannor kilmihil are all intermediate clubs while kilfenora are reigning intermediate champions , the stand out fault with the panel is the lack of senior club players representing the panel there is still a serious problem with getting players to commit to the panel especially from the bigger clubs

Thanks for that. I could understand players been reluctant to commit to inter county when in Division 4 but in Division 2 need everyone involved. Lads like David Tubridy, Gary Brennan and Joe Hayes are legends for staying with Clare footballers through the good and bad times over last 10 years.

So Clare Footballers will be playing on either July 1st or 8th going by the GAA website as a Provincial Semi Final looser.

Almost certain P?irc U? Chaoimh will not be available for Munster SFC final

It is almost certain that the new P?irc U? Chaoimh will not be available for the Munster SFC final on July 2 – and the hurling decider a week later may not be held there either.

I think it's confirmed now that neither final will be there. Presume Killarney and Thurles so.

Think is almost nailed on that the Hurlers will be playing in thurles regardless of the opposition

You'd assume Killarney for the football is a no brainer, but I'd imagine Limerick would be in with a shout for the hurling, especially if Cork beat Waterford

All Ireland final from 1995 on eir sport 1 now for anyone needing something to watch.

Some difference in style of hurling to these days.

That was just pure tension that day. Can't really sense that on TV. You'll also notice that the change in hurley shape from narrow boss to wide boss started around 97.

Often think that 2-08 these days in the first half and you might still be behind at half time.

Club Clare reporting Oisin O'Brien has returned to full training. That's a huge player for us to get back, a lock starter imo, if he gets back to form over the next few weeks.

I thought he was out for year? A big addition if fit.

Yeah torn cruciates usually take a good 6 months to heal after been surgically repaired. But it seems like it wasnt damaged too bad thankfully. Very good news for us, hopefully Podge and David Mc's injuries can clear up now for the Munster final.

Is Cian Dillon injured? Will Colin Ryan come back after soccer finishes? Could be needed for the frees later in year.

Dillon is ok, himself and Bugs lost out to POC and Gudgie. He will be fighting an up hill battle id say to get back starting, esp now O'Brien is back. McCarthy is also in contention too, so plenty of competition in the backs over the next few weeks. I rate Dillon highly, he is a good hurler, I think he hasnt got proper coaching in how to tackle and defend properly.

Id say Colin wont be back, though frees are def a concern. Reidy I think is better inside 50, maybe Kelly long range might work.

Ya Dillon has a tendency to foul a lot. Does David Mc take 65s for club?

county champions kilmurry showed exactly why changes needed to be made in the football championship 5 teams been relegated next year with a facile win over wolfe tones , keelan sexton scored 3-7 while missing 2 penalties last night

the biggest worry for clare club football is there are worse teams in the senior championship then wolfe tones at the moment ,and expect smular scorline in one or two games today today

o'currys beat newly promoted kilfenora last night while cooraclare beat st breckans and lissycasey beat doora/barefield today in much closer ties
