Basically, switching notifications on/off for gmail, changing sync settings etc. It worked fine on my One M8.

Did you see what I posted above?

I'm running Viper. Really struggled with whether to bother but had time last night.

Two features that persuaded me, turn off heads up notifications, androids worst 'feature', and adaway. Which in turn has fixed the boom sound notification issue, no ads no notification!

One question concerning the new trend of dropping headphone jacks in favour of USB, is there any such thing as like a split adaptor that allows you to charge the phone and listen to music at the same time?! I regularly listen to Spotify and stream shows on my phone at night while it's charging. Just wondering if there's an alternative to buying Bluetooth earphones in this kinda scenario

Nice one! I'm severely tempted by the 11. The headphones and charging situation was one big gripe but that adaptor looks like it should do the job nicely. Have a decent pair of Sony in ears so don't mind not being able to use the U Sonic whilst charging.

I'd really miss the Always On Display from my S7 but the superior audio quality and battery life of the 11 are huge draws. Forgot to bring a charger to work the other day and got 10 hours 40 minutes and 2 hours 40 minutes SOT with medium power saver on since 56%......

Also the blue looks incredible, just wish they'd done the front too!

I did, cheers. I had seen that post and made sure I had those settings correct (I had). I've uninstalled inbox and am using gmail but not getting notifications for that either.

And they're the only apps you're not getting notifications for? It has to be something to do with your setup. Can't be hardware, and nobody else seems to have the issue. It's just a case of figuring it out.

You're not running your device constantly in power saver? Do you have data saver on under > more > data usage? Do notifications show when you open the app?

it's the only app I'm not getting notifications for. I did have power saver constantly on so I've switched that off. I didn't have data saver on. I do agree that it must be a local issue. I'll keep you posted, thanks for your help thus far.

    Hi Basil3,

A few quick questions on rooting.

What version of twrp did you use ?
Did you use the version of SuperSU on the playstore ?
Before flashing did you s-off ?

    Thanks

    Using TWRP 3.1.1.0, linked above.

I select Magisk SU when flashing Viper. Seems to work well for me, and allows me to pass safety net and keep Android Pay working.

I don't think s-off is publicly available yet? I'm going into a group buy with some of the Venom guys to get a bit of a discount. So yeah, to answer your question....no, I didn't s-off.

Just reading those posts has made me realise I'm staying stock :D

Wise move. I can happily live on stock devices these days. A few years ago, Android was a bit painful without tweaking.

Unlocking and flashing custom ROM is simple this time around.

    1. Unlock bootloader using HTC Dev

    http://www.htcdev.com/

    2. Flash TWRP via download mode: fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img

    https://eu.dl.twrp.me/ocn/twrp-3.1.1-0-ocn.img.html

    3. Flash custom ROM (in my case Viper)

    https://forum.xda-developers.com/u11/development/viperu-t3619515

    https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=961840155545572552

I have a question. If I just want to go from the 3 firmware to the international firmware for the sake of faster OTA updates, is it still just a matter after rooting with Magisk of changing your CID to HTC___001 and your mid to 2PZC10000.

Then download the below international firwmare and rename the file to 2PZCIMG and stick it on your sd card and put the phone into download mode.
    https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=961840155545567318

    Thanks

You need s-off to change CID, so you'll have to wait for that to be released.

I believe the one you see is the original. I use quickpic regardless.

Strangely the HTC Gallery app by HTC in the Play Store is incompatible with the phone. If it's the original in Google Photos then it's grand anyway. I use the Snapseed app if I ever need to edit anything.

Edit - Did Quickpic not get bought out and turned into spam by one of those 'your device is infected, scan now!' companies a couple of years ago?

Loads of HTC fans cry about not having gallery any more, but it doesn't bother me. People running custom ROMs normally install HTC gallery. The HDR boost is incorporated into Google photos, AFAIK, and you can see it happening when you quickly go to photos after taking a pic.

Htc still have their raw enhancement option for improving raw photos taken with pro mode. I'm happy enough just going google photos and hdr boost.

As far as I can tell, it makes a different sound when an HDR photo is being taken.

I see Vodafone have now listed the phone but in that Sapphire Blue colour, cheaper of course than the S8/S8+
