Other than those factors, I've no real clear picture of how my tackling a hijacker would look.

I'd like to think I would but it's easy to say that from behind a computer screen. Different matter all together when your faced with that situation and the sh1t has hit the fan.

I could probably get at their knees, they won't be expecting that!

I might not be big and mighty but I am a pilot, so I might be handy after the bigger people take out the hijackers if the flight crew are incapacitated.

I'll get us home - I'm not saying anything about being in one piece - but definitely home! I'm not entirely useless!

Well a 'good' landing is one from which you can walk away. A 'great' landing is one after which they can use the plane again.

I'd say my prayers and take my vitamins...
Then I'd walk up to the ring leader and say "Well ya know somethin brother" me and all these good people here didn't climb on this plane to die today dude!

And me and all my maniacs will show you what it's like to get your rear ends kicked....

    *Starts tearing off shirt*

That's when an aer lingus steward, 8ft tall and 9ft wide whacks you over the head with a meal tray.

"Hulk O'Hogan, you just went TOO FAR! Me, and all these little ultimate lingus warriors here are gonna teach you a lesson you'll NEVER FORGET!"

I mean, its basically the iron sheik hijacking the thing anyway.

I imagine in most cases they don't run up and down the aisles shouting "We're going to smack the plane into O'Connell bridge, and you're all going to hell" as much as they do some spiel of "Ladies and gentlemen: please remain calm, this plane has been commandeered by the forces of X, we are going to land at Y, at which point you will be allowed to disembark and we will take the plane to our destination."

If they announced that everyone on board was definitely going to die, there would be a much greater chance of the passengers fighting back... But since most people will put their faith in even the smallest hope of survival, I assume they're smart enough not to announce their actual plans, and tell lies instead.

Far harder for people to work up the courage to fight, then.

If your going to die anyways, why would you not?

The vast majority of plane hijackings historically have ended with no civilians being killed. So in that context, it seems more clever to keep your head down. Sure, some hijackers might want to crash the plane, but even now, not all would.

    +1

Sure, the 9/11 attackers said they were going back to the airport. So, in an hijacking situation, you probably won't know what their endgame is. You might make matters worse by assuming that they want to destroy the plane.

When stressed some people run and hide and some people meet it head on
I can't run and hide I have to meet stuff head on it acually freaks me out to not simply deal with things and it doesn't stress me at all to just deal with things
I couldn't simply stand by if bad stuff was happening on a plane cos I'm scared of planes crashing so I believe I'd probably give it a shot
    I don't think I'm brave I'm simply agressive

Easy to be a hero in a hypothetical situation. Only a small percentage of people would act alone, the percentile increases with bravery in numbers.

I don't know if I would. I don't know how the shock and fear would affect me.

No, I'm Irish so would be too polite apparently. Wouldn't want to be offending the terrorists before I die.

I reckon I'd take them out alright. There's some areas especially around the neck or throat where if you hit them they will be knocked out. I've done some martial arts so reckon I'd overcome them. If there were more then 6 I might be in trouble but less I'd fancy my chances

So youre saying you could take out 5 dudes with necks as thick as tree trunks and wrought from pure diamond?

I reckon your fingers would melt on contact, like slivers of butter poking a raging volcano.

Look I know it wouldn't be easy but I'd fancy my chances. Better trying something then do nothing.

This made me think of that old episode of Friends where one old guy tells another he could kill him with his thumb.

You might be in trouble IF there were more than six.

    Yes, you might be alright.

So youre saying you'd still fancy your chances if their grip had the same power as two planets colliding at light speed, with intelligence equivalent to 100 Einstein brains sellotaped together?

This is me too really. I have no idea what I would do or how I would react. I have heard that in emergency situations, sometimes the most trained people go to pieces whilst the laypeople present are more hands-on. You just never know really.

On the 9/11 flights, two out of every four or five hijackers was there as muscle. On AA Flight 11, the hijackers WERE taken on by a passenger, Daniel Lewin, who was a fit, brawny guy. And they got the better of him, he was the first fatality on the day. (according to the flight attendents who called from the plane)

In the past you would shut up and get off the Plane when it landed in Libya etc.

Now, you would know that you had one chance because he was certain to kill everyone.

He probably didn't know martial arts though. That's a game changer, six at a time is the norm when you haz the skillz. :P

We may have the same concern.

If I hit them a right hook, would there be a danger that if it glanced off him that I could damage the structural integrity of the Plane.

    These Ironic things do happen.

You don't have to hit some one too hard to knock them out. It's all about getting them in the right spots. I just happen to know where those points are

It would be like every battle and skirmish in war ever fought by most but the exceptionally dedicated.

Keeping her lit as the piss and **** ran down their legs.

Many of the most bravest men I remember told me that is how it was for them.
