Congrats Helen, super result and very well deserved! Great racing tips in the report too, you must do this more often (PB AND report ;) )

Your v succinct report has got nearly as many likes as mine which took me AGES to write (unaccustomed as I am ... etc etc :))!

Great report HA! Well done again and thanks for sharing! So what target are you planning on hitting next?

Well, I won't be able to do the sub-40 10k or sub-70 10 mile this year, but maybe I could do another sub-20 5k some time? Or if I do the race series half I'd hope for sub-1.40?

The next one to aim for is a sub-6 mile. I'm not doing any specific training for it, I'll just have to run as hard as I can in the Raheny winter miles over the next 2 months :-).

Bungy Girl, I know your next target is the 400m in March. Anyone else have anything lined up?

Helen, just catching up on your report, brilliant running and love the report, captures the local flavour of the race very well. Enjoy the blender :D

I'm going to aim for the 800m in March (Indoors). Wouldn't be going for anything yet that requires me to use blocks

Will keep plugging away at the mile too, most recent is 6:06 so I'm determined to find those 7 seconds by the end of the year.

Sorry for the logjack  1:40 will be more than within your compass if you can train well for it. Murph_D and I both ran 1:37 in last year's race series HM.

There are also the Irish Runner paced miles in ALSAA. Next one is on February 22.

Pretty sure HelenAnne already has a 1:37 or better half in the bag, if my memories of being passed in the closing half mile in 2015 Dublin Half are correct! Plus her Raheny 5 time suggests a sub-70 Ballycotton isn't out of the question at all. ;)

Great report Helen Anne!, you looked extremely focused in the last few hundred mtrs.

Great to see this table being populated so early in the year too, long may it last.

Indoors at the National Masters in Athlone yesterday. A good race, not a great time but enough for a silver in my age-group, so happy with that. Not sure if indoors is my thing though - more elbows and tripping than XC!

From the National Masters Road Relays, Sunday 23 April. A pleasing progression from my debut in 2015 (5:51) and a 5:45 leg last year. Paradoxically, as my times are getting quicker in the relays, my overall leg position is moving down! In 2015, my 5:51 was second fastest mile leg and last year was third fastest.
Third fastest again this year to an astounding 5:20 leg and then a Crusaders 5:31.

Not sure what it translates to in 'real mile time'. HelenAnne? Taking the maximum 70m, it translates to 5:20ish mile pace. I wish, but I suspect it is a tad slower. It definitley felt f.a.s.t.

The first 200m were 'oh fcuk' the next 200m - still in 7th or so - was 'oh shiit there's going to be no let-up here'...Had a few negative thoughts in fast forward mode but managed to claw my way to 5th behind two Raheny athletes by about 600m and talked myself into hanging on to them.

Between 600 and 800, relaxed a bit and told myself I had to bring myself in ahead of them to give Suzanne a chance against the awesome Annette K from Raheny. Kicked on at 800/the turn and thought I heard footsteps recede but was taking no chances and kept pushing. The sheltered bus stop I had earmarked as a 'gathering point' appeared surprisingly quickly and just before this point got a shout out from the pa telling me I had 400 to go. Turned the corner and kicked. Not sure if I actually went any faster but definitely emptied the tank.

One of the Sli Cualann coaches gave me a 5:37 on the changeover but official time is 5:38. Was/am v happy but you know sub 5:30*is in my sights for next year....Sigh, bloody runners, never happy, eh?!

*waah just remembered it won't be in Raheny :(

Thanks! Where were you? How did I miss you?! I ran around the course a couple of times backwards with clubmates, analysing the race and saw a few people but I have to admit I was pretty race-delirious....

I was near the bus shelter you mentioned but on the other side of the road - I did go around to the finish looking for you but had four legged child who wanted to be elsewhere so headed off just as the men were starting. Funny I think I spotted every one of your club mates!! The whole thing looked fantastic and very exciting from the sidelines.
