Time to get this one going while the resolutions are still fresh :D

I've copied the table directly from one of the previous years.

You know the drill - quote the most recent table, enter your time, remove the quote marks and post.

I'd hope to get the 800m, 3K, 5 mile, half, and the holy grail that is the sub-6 mile this year. Who else is in ??

I can only dream!.but good luck to everyone else :)

I'm in for 5k, 5 mile and half marathon - and I wonder is there any way at all I might manage the 10 mile. It would be a big jump as my pb is 71.50

Great stuff HelenAnne. The 10 mile is a tough enough target but I'd say a bit easier than the 5k (which you have already :D) so no bother to you. Problem with 10 milers is not enough races. Are you planning on Clontarf ?

Delighted to see the table up and running, and good luck to all!

HelenAnne Trim 10 mile is a great race and reasonably flat, it's on the weekend after the Raheny 5 though..

Good luck all. Will enjoy following the progress. It's a lofty goal of mine to hit some of these targets some day so will be following with interest!

Excellent, Laura. No doubt at all that you will and I know for me the table was a big motivator in attempting some times that I would have thought were out of reach.

I think the 5 miler is probably the most achievable, but having seen your sprint finish the 800m might be a good one to go for first !

Yeah the 5 mile could be the first dream goal down the road! Given that you're not racing Raheny what one are you thinking of targeting?

Ha, the 800m, not sure about that. I was doing my 600m intervals today in 2 mins 40s and it nearly broke me. Purely out of curiosity, where would one target an 800m race, especially if you're not in a club?

This thread looks great! Have never timed myself doing the shorter distances, but have never done a marathon or half marathon (but signed up for Dublin half in Sep) and the 5 and 10k times are beyond my capabilities just yet.

Will follow this thread though - will be a great source of motivation for me and will aim to be ready to at least give it a stab next year!

    Good luck to all

You could fix that fairly easily for a start.

I'd be really interested in targeting the 5 mile too, maybe a goal for the end of this year? I'd be happy with a sub 7 mile for now though. I don't know my 800 time, hmmm...

Might do the BHAA Dunboyne race which is a fast course or maybe Terenure. Timing's a bit off with both of these as they're on in the middle of track season where 5 miles would feel like a marathon . If there was one in Sept/Oct time that might be better.

I actually organised a 800m TT on the grass track in Trinity with some clubmates, specifically to attempt a sub 3. Could easily do that again if there was interest ? It doesn't have to be an official race for the table, a time trial works too.

BHAA have some races on that grass track in June, can't remember if they have an 800m though

Hi Bananaleaf, welcome to the thread :D. I'm going to post up some options now for the shorter distances as there are so many options for 5K+ but not everyone is aware of the shorter races.

    Thanks folks, both sound intriguing.

BG I could be interested if you were doing something like that, especially if it was later in the year. Best case it's a shot to get something on the table, worst case I've given something different a go!

Hi Ray, last year there were 2 events: 1,000 yards (PBs guaranteed ;)) and 2000 metres. The year before it was 1200m and 2000m and in previous years they have had a mile / 3K. So it varies. Highly recommended event and open to all standards !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,355 ✭✭✭Bungy Girl

The Irish Runner Paced Miles (1 mile), Alsaa Winter League (1 mile/3K), Raheny Winter League (1,2,3 miles), Dublin Graded Meets (club runners) (100m - 5K track), BHAA Trinity Track (varies, see earlier post), Drogheda & District Graded Meets (100m - 3K track, brilliant events during the summer for all standards)

Post up if you want details for any of these! Or, of course, if you know of more options. My knowledge is limited to Dublin :o.

That reminds me ....... does anyone know anything about the Irish Runner paced miles? I contacted pacedmiles@athleticsireland.ie on Dec 18th looking to pay for 12 paced miles at the offer price of €50 but I heard nothing back. I don't see anything about them on their webpage either. Maybe not announced yet but I saw the advert for 12miles for €50 for 2017 in their 2016 annual.

I had seen that offer all right but hadn't heard anything about it since. Their Facebook page is usually updated regularly so maybe follow that if you haven't already. I remember last year they announced the dates quite late. Of course your email may have got lost in the Xmas madness so no harm to try again once the silly season is over.

Well, hopefully, but who knows? I haven't broken 21 in a park run this year; we'll see next weekend if it's REALLY because of off-road courses / unfamiliar courses etc, or am I just no longer capable of running faster than 6.50 pace :(

You? Are you doing Raheny and gunning for sub 35?

The year is only 3 weeks old !!!!

I've chosen pacing duty for Raheny. I knew I wasn't likely to be on form for a sub-35 so will hopefully help Laura_ac3 to a new PB. I think I'll have to wait til March and the Indoors to perhaps get my first entry on the table (800m).

Best of luck Sunday week (no bother to you!)

Yay, thanks BG. I'm having a bit of an extended boards break this year due to paring back commitments/distractions but would like to support this thread whenever possible.

Realistically, I'll probably only get up to 10k (10mi at a push) but would like to tick every box up to that this year.

Training is going well with most indications that I am at a slightly higher starting point compared to this time last year. Most importantly, all the rehab is going well. I'd go so far to say that my current addiction to The Good Wife feeds my addiction to the rehab routine and vice versa. They are perfect partners along with the occasional help from the 4yo who likes to introduce some body weight into the mix.....

The 5k was from a parkrun this morning, I hit 3k in 11:44 so will pencil that in for now.

I also hit 2:42 for 800m in a recent 1200m TT so will pencil that in too with a view to annihilating it soon enough ;)

Did Irish runner paced mile on Wed. Knew I wasn't anywhere near a 6min mile of course but hadn't appreciated what a feat it is until I saw people running it! Did my own in 8:30 which is fab for me. Based on that I would be delighted to be able to nab a 45min finish in Raheny next week, but so long as I don't go over 50mins I will be happy.

Well done! That's all brilliant! Well done on the park run time.

I don't know where the 3k mark in our 2 mile race is, but at the pace I ran 2 miles, I should have hit 3k in 11.48, so I will count that as a pencilled in one on the chart too!

21 mins in Oldbridge park run this morning. I know that's way off my best, but it's all on grass and through fields, so was happy enough. :)

I know I'm going to come across as a cranky ol git, nothing new there:pac: but wasn't the idea of the tables first day to get people out and try different events? Don't en route times go against the spirit of that? No doubt that someone who goes sub-20 can go sub-12 en route and no doubt you will annihilate those times DG but I feel if we go down the road of en route times, people won't be as likely to race a 3k if they can pick it up in a 5k and so on. On the mens table for instance, a guy like KC could probably knock down everything from 3k to half-marathon in one race.

Makes no difference to me but just a thought.

To be fair, Dubgal said she was 'penciling in', which implies she's going to run an official 3k and 800m some time soon? and I didn't put mine on the table, since it was only a guess. I was just keeping the discussion about times / paces going. I see what El Caballo means about someone like Krusty being able to knock out all the times in one race -- but I certainly wouldn't be able to; my fastest 2-mile time is 12.31, the 3k time would be hard enough for me, so I was only mentioning it in an 'I ran an OK time, maybe showing I am getting nearer to some of the round numbers' spirit.

I think it's OK to chat around the times and mention why (based on other races) you think you might hit them? Otherwise it would just be a thread of tables.

Absolutely agree to discuss them but maybe the table should be populated with specific results otherwise it misses the point surely?

Yes, fair point. I think (can't find it now!) on an earlier table we said races or time trials (for the specify distance) allowed.

And back to grumpy El Caballo's point ;) This should encourage participants to engage in races over those distances, I think that would genuinely benefit the participants even if they don't hit the targets..... I'm cringing thinking of a 200m race I tried where I was using blocks for the first time, not pretty. ;)
