Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Aside from a missed penalty and missed cross field how has sexton been poor? Hes linking up well with teo and putting players thru space. Defending really well also. Think he's having a tidy game considering the ****e going on around him.

He has thrown two or three pretty sloppy passes as well.

His passing has been pretty mixed to be fair. I think he has gotten a bit disconnected from the receivers which makes the pass look worse but still putting lions in back foot.

He threw a pass to the left at the end of the second half that was behind the whole back line and we lost 15meters from it.

His inside ball to Seymour a few minutes ago was behind the player as well. Took the impact away.

    Best has been very good

Sexton's last action to give away a penalty for a high tackle.

    Sums up his evening.

Not a happy moment for AWJ there!

Do you mean the inside ball to Watson? Watson clearly overran that one.

Ah I think a lot of those passes were down to the runners as much as him. Timing has been awful.

Two botched kicks from hand and two atrocious passes.

    Matt Matich has his number.

    Not at all

A preplanned move that Sexton simply threw to late. It's the out halves responsibility to hit the runner in that situation.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

Baa-bass 8 very clever off that tap. Prevented Falatau joining the ruck and helped win the penalty.

A bit harsh on Sexton to take him off there. Not great but needs game time.

Timing has been off alright, just not sure how can say he was one of Lions "good" players

Pretty disappointing for Sexton and Henderson, Best went pretty well. Hopefully My favourite non Ulster Irish player has a good cameo now. Sinclair has laid down a bit of a marker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,808 ✭✭✭✭bilston

It was simple enough but the symbolism of Farrell giving a try scoring pass isn't great for Sexton. Although of course Barnes will go OTT about it

Thats a bit better, Farrell showing how it's done

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,361 ✭✭✭✭phog

Game seems to speeded up a bit since Farrell came on.

Looked like Faletau was waiting for the offload instead of securing the ruck.

Not that it was going anywhere anyway, but that is Sexie's tour done for sure.
Falatau and Teo standing up to be counted, staking their clams, and putting up their hands for test jerseys.
Other wise we had a good gawk at the midweek dirt trackers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,221 ✭✭✭crisco10

Yup. It's unfortunate timing for sexton. Doesn't look good for him already.

But sexton had 50 mins and didn't show up well

Farrell is a massive improvement over Sexton.

Sexton will be battling with Biggar for a place on the bench in the test matches.

Lions make a heap of substitutions but it's *just* Farrell that is having an impact ay!!?

I thought best went very well apart from one crooked lineout had at least 2 good clean turnovers I think a third was knocked on after he won it in the first half. He really does add so much around the field and at the breakdown when he's going well!

Babaas Miles offside all the time

Because he was responsible for most of the line breaks in the first half and put himself around the pitch.

He is playing like a drain lately. Farrell has been excellent consistently for months. There was never a contest. Injuries can alter cases, but otherwise, Jonny's place for the midweek games, other than giving enough time to Biggar to get game time for his spot on the test bench, is assured.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,206 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

It's not the end of Sextons tour but it's not good for him that Farrell can come on and immediately have a bigger impact than he had all game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

Sexton was certainly poor. He'll be very frustrated seeing the try go in as soon as he came off.

Needs a much better performance next time out

"lately" is really only the Scarlets game, which is about as far back as many people's memories go obviously

Gatland and Laidlaw off, Lions should get about 4 more tries and win handy now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

So I missed most of the first half, but how has AWJ gone? Haven't seen a huge amount from him in the 30 mins I've seen.

?? Who is delighted to see Sexton fail?
He, along with alot of players, hasn't had a good game
People are so precious about their favorite players
I love Henderson but he was been poor

Webb on now and we'll open them up imo. Laidlaw way too conservative in his decision making.

Sexton was fine. Did nothing dramatic but distributed and tackled well. Teo having a good game because Sexton is putting him into space.

I dont think he is going to get one. The swing into the test pattern will start on Wednesday, with Biggar starting and Sexton benching. Then Farrell starting next weekend with Biggar benching.
It was already Gatty's Plan-A. Sexton seems incapable of providing any evidence to refute the contention that Gatts is dead right.

Sexton wasn't as bad as some are making out but his distribution left a lot to be desired at times. Few lasses straight to deck and others stopping the recipients momentum when they had to stop to catch the ball (appreciate some of that can be down to timing of the run)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,658 ✭✭✭Kanrith

I think people are over reacting to Sexton, made a few mistakes yeah, but it wasn't the shocker some are making out. Had some good moments as well.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

Kruis is right into the game with a steal? Didn't Kruis come on 10 mins ago?

Thought Sexton was outperformed by Gatland myself
