Weather is a bit pissy by the looks of it.

He came back, but has re-signed with Sarries (?). He's back north at the end of Super season in any case. He has all the physical attributes, but tends to be lazy and hot-headed which has stopped him going too far with Australia.

For a lazy bloke he's working nearly 12 months of the year

I never knew the importance of lineout calls until I lived in Ireland. Lived in ignorant bliss for far too long.

It came to prominence amongst one or two posters a year or two ago (well one poster in particular I think) who were determined to keep Henderson out of the Ireland team, ot more likely to keep their preferred player in the side...at least that's what it felt like at the time...I'd never heard it being such a big deal until then either.

Faletau the star for the Lions. Sexton not doing himself any favours.

The Blues have been the worst of the NZ super rugby sides over the last few years. If the Lions can't beat them on Wednesday we're in bother.

Looked like a bunch of a fellas who met in a club Saturday night and decided to play game in the morning. Might have been complacency and/or unfamiliarity. Sexton has a huge amount of ground to make up. Faletau, Moriarty and Te'o the best of a bad lot.

3 points shaved off all the super rugby teams handicaps after todays game ;)

Jeez Laidlaw is awful, pondering, stepping and poor passes.
Hogg trying too hard individually too, the exact thing they tell them not to do in these games.

No real indicator of anything bar the general viewing public's feelings..but Sky have a vote on their site for the most influential player of the game, Faletau is top of the list while Sexton and Henderson are 21st and 22nd respectively.

Have my 5 match accumulator set in stone a month ago!

I feel this game doesnt really affect the standing in Gats eyes. Most would still have jet lag.

How could you do a 5 match accumulator?

I said it on the match thread... nobody played themselves into the test team...but a few have played their way off I think

I think this '3 days off the plane' mantra is a load of rubbish. The super rugby teams are flying back and forth across the Indian/Pacific ocean every couple of weeks and still able to perform at high level.

I agree. It's not like they're stuck in economy class, struggling to sleep and eating crappy airline food. They travel in luxury and have doctors ensuring they're getting all the right nutrients, vitamins etc.

Slight. Only slight difference is super rugby teams are not scratch teams playing g together in every aspect for the first time together so 3 days off the plane is far from rubbish.

    It's two different arguments.
    Never playing together and
    Jet lag

The first is arguably even more relevant to the NZ baabaas.

The Lions is a scratch side. The Super Rugby sides train together 6 months a year. The issue yesterday for me is that the Lions players lack connectivity with each other. Mistimed passes, players over running and yes the jet lag etc.

The Lions will improve, they'll need to.

They may be different arguments, but they aren't 2 arguments living in separate vacuums. They exist together. If you're playing together all season then you don't need the same level of training time together as you do if you've never played together before. If you're time together is limited and/or affected by jet lag it'll have a far greater impact on a team unfamiliar with each other than one very familiar with each other.

Whom may I ask? I dont think its the case besides well Laidlaw who I thought was very poor

Laidlaw and Henderson were never near the test side. Hogg and Sexton did themselves no favours but it's all very early.

There's still another 5 games and 3 weeks to go before the first test. That's an awful lot of rugby, and plenty of time for anyone to redeem their performances yesterday.

No decisions have been made on a test squad at this stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,258 ✭✭✭✭Buer

Only guys who played themselves off the team weren't likely to be in the 23 anyway i.e. Laidlaw, Joseph. Anyone that went out there as a strong contender for the test team has hurt their chances but by no means played themselves off.

    Team to play the Blues:

    McGrath, Owens, Cole
    Lawes, Itoje
    Haskell, Tipuric
    Stander
    Webb, Biggar
    Daly, Henshaw, Payne, Nowell
    Halfpenny

Marler, Best, Sinckler, Henderson, POM, Laidlaw, Sexton, Williams

So how many coaches is that now who have concluded that Payne is a 13?

This suggests Murray and Farrell will start together on Saturday which may be significant.

Yup. I'd say the Crusaders game will give a strong insight into what is being considered for the test match now.

Jonathan Davies, Farrell, North, Kruis, Furlong, Murray, Vunipola, George all looking likely starters.

Will also be interesting to see if SOB is involved or still injured.
