Gyms will be hard to beat solo at a low level, just because it's a bit tricker to get some high CP pokemon. If you have friends that play on the same team, you can work with them, otherwise you'll just have to compare the pokemon that are in the gym with the pokemon that you have and try and figure out if you can beat it.

Yep, and you could pick the right team this time :p:p

Seriously though, the gyms out around the hospital and Dunmore Rd area tend to be yellow if you're planning on participating in gyms. But you probably won't make any headway in gyms at lower levels. Keep grinding away, you should hit level 20 in a couple of weeks. By that stage you should have a couple of evolved mons that might be worth visiting gyms with.

    Good luck, it's addictive :)

Once you have a decent vaporeon you'll be ok for gym battling. I know people sometimes moan about how op the Vape is but i think that it is good that newer players will have a chance of competing in gyms this way.

I'm on 24 gold medals, one away from steel and soon will get dark

It only took almost 11 months of playing daily and over 1500 eggs, but I finally hatched a Snorlax!! My favourite Pokémon.....my life is complete :D

That's brilliant news, even if you are a Mystic player ;) how much candy did you get?

Eh... thanks :p Got a whopping 32 candy, and his iv is 87. Unfortunately got lick/heavy slam, but I don't even care about that. I had already walked my 51% Snorlax to death, so now I have 109 candy to power up :)

Lapras east side of Stephen's Green.

I was on the luas last week and there was a lapras at a nearby pokéstop but I couldn't get it because I'd've missed the train to Galway.

A year late but I started playing this yesterday, damn it's addictive. Reading back the thread and seeing all you guys that have been grinding for a year and still haven't "caught them all" is making me wonder if I made the right decision to start. I have 39 caught so far.

I had no idea that the team you picked at the start would influence the gyms you could train at etc. I just picked yellow cause I liked the guys hair :o

It's annoying because I read you can just train at friendly gyms but every gym in Waterford seems to be blue, I can even access one from my bedroom.

Should I just avoid all gyms until I reach a certain level?

Welcome, good to have another Instinct member in Waterford

The moment you walk to the top of Dun Laoghaire South Pier....and 2 Dratinis pop up at the head of North Pier... :(:(:(

Still I did catch my first ever 0% IV pokemon today (a pidgey) - they are a lot rarer than 100% iv pokes (of which I have 9 already). Small consolation prize for 14 lost candies...

Debating whether to evolve him to pidgeot or leave him as a pidgey.

A real trainer would have no hesitation in going for a swim to get the candy!

After complaining about the last few (non) events here, this one was brilliant for me. I ended up getting my Tyrannitar, Ampharos and Typhlosion, leaving me just Unown and Girafarig to complete the dex. I also hatched a Snorlax, my first hatched one, yesterday to complete the week.

Now, do I do a four hour round trip on Monday to my "local" Girafarig nest??

Yes, yes I did. After four and a half hours of driving my wife has sewing material for herself and her mother, and I have a breeding pair of Girafarigs leaving me with a complete regional dex except for Unown.

New app - train Magikarp, make it jump higher than other Magikarp :)

I only downloaded in the hope it might get me a shiny in PoGo - that's how desperate I am :)

Where was the nest? There's one in Kilkenny on the silph road is it that one?

    Nah, Newtownabbey near Belfast.

Walking my Mareep today...was at 71 candies...hoped to bring it up to 73.....came home with 95 candies.....great 10km hatch.

Will also hit Level 34 this evening with 234 seen and 229 caught.....with Miltank and Unown to be tripped across at some point and some serious walking to do to get Typhlosion and Feraligator.

Sitting comfortably to 9 gyms....was 10 for a week but someone from Team Valor took one, so hope to skip up the road later to take it back....unless other Team Mystic have already done the job.
I usually leave one of my gyms that's been bet with competition for at least 24 hours, everyone deserves some coin.

Closer to home is a Team Instinct Gym with a 3000+ Blissey that I just need to sort, just for the challenge...just need to make the time.

So all is good with my game.

Soloing a 3000+ Blissey is no mean feat - I've done it a few times and it's always a close run thing (though I only have a non-optimal Machamp and Vaporeon to try and take them down).

I did finally evolve an optimal fighting wonder Poliwrath that I hope to bring up to fighting spec...stardust is sorely lacking however - currently at 500 dust ;)

I've also evolved a 91% lanturn with pure electric moves that I'm bringing up in the hopes of using it against the Vape army at some point (for prestiging purposes only as it is CP capped to around 1900).

Jolteon also makes for a pretty good blissey attacker.

Currently at the cyndaquil nest in St endas. Just can't seem to get a good iv one. At 189 candies. Going to give it another half an hour and then I'm off!

@AMger just caught a shiny magic carp in the people's park two mins ago

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,105 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

Shinies are individually calculated so any shiny that appears for you has no bearing on if it'll be shiny for the person next to you - in one way harsh, but I guess it's a spoofer prevention method.

I've 600 magikarp candies but no yellow carp yet :P - will have to give dun laoghaire harbour another walk tonight....east or west pier I wonder....

Went in to town today for a while, caught everything I could because I'm heading to Dublin on Friday and I'll have no shortage of stops there so I can restock items. Caught a Pineco to give me enough candy for another Forretress, then to my relief I didn't immediately hatch one from the 10km in my incubator :pac: Got another Dratini with 20 candy, which will be going towards another Dragonite, as my first one was Steel Wing/Outrage :(

Had a bit of a battle with a spoofer earlier too, a gym was getting battled in town with nobody around, so I started battling it as well to raise the level. Took them a good 20 minutes to give up.

Nope just 82% or above. That was my second visit to the nest. Got one that's 82-91% but it's 11cp.

There's not been as much activity on here lately - are people getting bored with the game?
