Tattoos, piercings (exception being earrings), crazy hair colours... not for me thanks.

More significant issues would be constant drama, vacuous, unable to express themselves, or any drug use. No deal.

Just out of curiosity (as someone with a face full of metal :) ) is it the actual look of piercings that you dislike, or is it that you associate them with a particular type of person, or both?

Those dreadful ear piercings that stretch holes in the lobes. They are utterly repulsive to me. Usually anyone with them has tattoos and other piercings, both of which are also deal-breakers to me.

I don't like the idea of the giant holes in the earlobes. And the plastic discs look grimy to me. I don't know why.

(I don't have to like all piercings, on everyone, before some tulip points out my staggering hypocrisy)

Someone mentioned it above, but the brown shoes with suits has been annoying me lately, go back to black lads.

But not with navy/blue suits, please!

This type of nose ring, I think its cos they sort of make it look like somebody has a snot coming out.

    +1

Serves a purpose when it's on a bull, looks ridiculous on a human.

Both really.. aside from the actual look which does nothing for me, I'd find it's generally the style of the more "alternative" (or whatever term is in vogue) sort, whereas I'm far too boring and "regular" for that :p

Tbh you're probably spot on with the alternative bit, anyone I know with loads of piercings falls into that category. If it was just numerous ear piercings would that also put you off? I have a tragus piercing and I want a few more ear piercings, as I can't have visible tattoos or mad piercings in my line of work.

I smoke and my fingers are perfectly normal, as is the rest of me, probably because I don't smoke eighty woodbines a day, or in an enclosed space, and I'm a clean person, but a yellowed, growly old smoker would be off putting to me, too.
People who don't just not smoke themselves but behave like smokers are something that crawled out of the sulphurous pits of hell. Very extreme judgement is off putting. They usually see no irony about it because they don't count their own vices as bad habits.

I'm not keen on stretched ears, board shorts, caps on backwards, skinny jean, converse type shoes, lots of piercings on men (I have a few and I think they suit some women).

Not trivial but I couldn't go out with a racist or someone with offensive attitudes to people with disabilities.

A colleague of mine was eventually "managed out" of the job because of her smoking.
A very capable pleasant punctual hard working woman, the managers addressed the problem of her personal hygiene in particular reference to her smoking, in every way they could but she couldn't find a way to deal with it and added to that quite a degree of denial, eventually she exhausted the grievance procedure and she was gone.

I know a lot of alternatively dressed people-some extremely alternative-but I'm not sure what an alternative personality or interests would be to anyone who feels more conventional or 'normal'. I'd say I'm some kind of hybrid.

Oh dear. Sounds quite unusual and extreme.

Yep, I reckon so.. one/two earrings - grand (so long as not those big hoop things) but anything more than that (I had to google tragus piercing) just wouldn't do it for me.

I'm probably the guy for which there are rules like you talk about in your workplace. No tattoos, no piercings, normal short haircut (albeit greying at the sides these days), don't smoke, and have never tried - nor any interest in trying - anything stronger than the occasional/rare pint

Like I said, boring! :p But that's OK.. with middle-agedness comes contentment in who you are

When your in customer service the customer is king.
Too many complaints, customers refusing to deal with her.
Very unpleasant to work beside as well.
She was spoken to by the Union as well.
    Other employees have rights too.

I think there's too much emphasis on these things but there is a definite mentality among some of the alt people I know, I think they're a bit pretentious and shallow in their own strange way.

There's nothing at all wrong with being 'normal'. Most of us are normal, just different on the exterior, but to me normal just means well adjusted, it doesn't mean boring. The rest is just surface decoration and personal taste and not liking too much of that is just as valid as liking it over the top looking.

I agree. I'd be mortified if I thought people could smell smoke from me except on very rare occassions-e.g if you happened to bump into me right after I'd smoked in the car, when I no doubt do have smoke clinging to me. There's no point in me pretending it could never happen. I don't ever feel like smoking when I'm working, though. Not even now that I'm working from home a lot.

I can't help thinking though that it sounds like the woman either smoked a hell of a lot during the working day (did she take 'fag breaks'?) and/or didn't wash hair and change clothes that often?

It's quite a serious addiction when even the threat of losing a job doesn't deter the person.

You're in the wrong country for that

Thankfully I'm in the right county though, the genetic disability which prevents many ppl from pronouncing TH is not commonplace in Donegal

On that note, blue suit and brown shoes. Copying Conor McGregor's outfits exactly isn't the same thing as having a sense of style. Every ****ing graduation, wedding, work party I've been to in the past year there's a sea of them, it's the new check shirt and boot cut jeans at this point

Can you please share a non-McGregor example of said look. I fear I might inadvertently fall into this category.

    For dating:

1.) People from either rough areas (e.g North Dublin, Limerick) or people who grew up with very conservative 'tough love parents. Exceptions if the person does not sound (accent wise) for the former and is relatively liberal in their parenting style and personality for the latter (i.e no tough love unless absolutely necessary, reasonably open minded on things like gay marriage, abortion, suicide.)

2.) People from South Dublin who sound like they're not speaking English. Met a hot 16yr old girl (when I was 17 so not perverted:D) who was 5ft 9 (5in taller than me) and very muscular. when she opened her mouth however......No, just no. :(

So you're into tall, muscular 16-year olds but not southside accents?

    What?

    Basically she looked like this:

    but sounded like this:

    pyjama-girls.jpg

It's a shame IMO that in Ireland, we have genuinely attractive women that could be on par with girls from France/Spain/Sweden but it's just the clothing and accent that usually ruins it.

And to be honest, it's not like some of these women can't afford a decent pair of trousers, shoes or coat. Not looking for the 'poshest' girl and neither do I go around criticizing women for not speaking elegantly but I do get seriously turned off when I see a hot girl looking lazily dressed (pyjama/yoga pants, ugg boots) while at the same time having the newest iPhone and Dr Dre headphones for €500.

Jean Jolie, I'm imagining the Amazon woman with the Limerick accent :D

Fashion is too casual for my taste, too.

Smoking for the one me would be. People might see this as shallow but I don't. It's just a disgusting habit that I find very unattractive to the point that if I see a good looking woman smoking I lose all interest in them pretty much instantly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,075 ✭✭✭MarkY91

That nose piercing that's like a bull ring. It's vile looking.

Also 95% of women simply do not suit tattoos most women look ridulous at best and like men at worst.

Women wearing jogging clothes when they're not jogging or working out. Since when did it become fashion?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,633 ✭✭✭✭Widdershins

Vertical tip nose piercings are quite startling..

    ^^ This

I was actually really attracted to a girl years ago, but turned out she was a heavy smoker... pretty much instantly turned me off her. But at the same time was a real downer too, as she seemed cool.

I think part of it is also that my mind imagines them getting lung cancer down the line, so it's like your mind trying to avoid a future sad/tragic situation!

I broke up with a guy because he was completely and utterly obsessed with Marvel films. The straw that broke the camels back was when we went to see one and he had a Superman vest under his shirt.
