Some old elephants with ground down teeth are unable to eat and die from starvation. These are often shot.

Article linked says he specialised in hunting lions and leopards with dogs. I have all the info I need to form an opinion.

A source who didn’t want to be named told Netwerk24 that a group of hunters had gone for a walk on Friday afternoon when they suddenly came across a breeding herd of elephants.
Three elephant cows stormed the hunters and Botha shot at them. A fourth cow stormed them from the side and one of the hunters shot her after she’d lifted Botha with her trunk. The shot was fatal and as the cow collapsed, she fell on Botha.

The thread heading is misleading

The article does not say he shot them.
It says he shot at them.
A different elephant lifted him.
Another hunter shot the elephant that lifted him.

these people hunt for fun, they think somehow it brings them closer to nature. This fella thought because he had a gun that he could go around killing whatever animal he wanted and this one time nature got it's own back on him.

They also put ridiculous amount of money into the pars conservation to take out an old bull which is a lot more than anyone here is doing to help conservation. So what he wants to kill an elephant but that elephants death would save herds of healthy elephants.

Paying large sums of money as a panacea for the thrill of hunting an animal for fun. He could have donated money to the park without the added buzz of murder couldn't he?

Are you donating? Have you contributed to the parks? No. You have not. The animals that are shot are old or weak animals no longer of use to the herds. If he wants to kill it then let him. He's paying the money. Plus the meat is harvested then to the local villages. Again he is still doing more than you even realise.
