Take your pick, as the makers have never confirmed or denied any kf the suggestions down the years. Some say it's after the Earl of Kimberley, others the Kimberley Gold mines, and even the Kipling character Kim.

Hmmm, Jacob's official facebook page seems to have a definitive answer on it!

    Which is ?

Well if you have sorted out the answer, their fb page says after the gold mine at Kimberley.

Presumably the 'why' is that they were created at the same time the mine was topical - 1880

On the other hand they claim the gold mine is in Australia so maybe...

In that case I'll go for the gold mines. But certainly up to about 2000 they always avoided confirming it... for some reason.

    I bet it's a tricky question, but I'd say 4, otherwise it wouldn't be a race...

*Waits for Srameen to turn up with the right answer*
