Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

havent played the demo and wont (on pc) - but i'd be interested in people's thoughts on this too.

Given how Doom was handled with their absolute kack prerelease pc demo i'm not surprised they've excluded it as a demo this time round for pc.

    Its out next week?

I despised the original so even the fact it's named the same has instantly put me off it. None of the gameplay I've seen so far is grabbing me either.

Played it a bit there, and I enjoyed it. Liked the twist as well, won't pick it up at launch but will definitely get it at some stage.

Is the music cues all over the pace or is it just me?
Sometimes it would kick in (really loud btw) & you'd be nowhere near a mimic or set piece.

Could be to keep you on edge a bit. "Why is there music playing, what's going on?"
    I'm just guessing though.

is this the dishonoured engine? Seems like a downgrade too. Did enjoy it though. Very similar too deus ex

  • Registered Users Posts: 876 ✭✭✭bigphil2

Have to say,i really enjoyed the demo, agree that some of the music cues are off but apart from that,i like the story and want to go further into the station.. i reckon ill be picking it up.

No chance i'm touching this till well after launch. No reviews till after release, and their last game (Dishonored 2) was an absolute mess.

Ouch, was great on Ps4 pro (after a couple of patches)

This seems to have solved many of the issues with Dishonored 2 on ps4 anyway,i spent about 2 and a half hours on this demo, just exploring and picking up everything, theres gonna be a lot to do in the full game i reckon, and the powers werent even included on the progression menu..

I get a wiff of System shock 2/Bioshock off it and thats a good thing IMHO

I bought DH2 recently and it was flawless on the PC (for me anyway) played through with the old fella now halfway through with the chick.....It was in bits at launch with memory leaks and other performance issues but its perfect now (again for me)

Well worth the 25 quid or so I paid for it....I preferred the 1st one but its a solid game.

I really liked the 1st prey so deffo gonna grab the demo too.

While I like the setting and premise the combat (not upgraded) is very sluggish and its a chore on normal difficulty. I think I may wait for a sale in a few months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,013 ✭✭✭✭Wonda-Boy

Just played the demo there as was said I was not overly impressed....pick it up in 6mths on PC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

Was underwhelmed when I launched it but it kind of grew on me. Think it did I good job with the "I wonder what's in that box in the room I can't get into?"
    Probably will pick this up

It's good, lots of good potential but combat and movement need alot more polish, like 6 months more.

Were you playing on PS4? Digitalfoundry piece on it mentioned input lag and some other issues not present on the xbox version and that the developers said would be fixed before launch.

    Yeah on PS4.

  • I found the Dishonoured 2 console version to be atrocious looking and also have poor performance.
Arklane studios got away with it last year and hardly any of the critics mentioned the issues.

Does this use the same engine? How does the demo perfom / look?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

Character movement felt a bit clunky, graphics were functional but not mind blowing.
Didn't feel these issues detracted from the gameplay. Genuinely wanted to explore and find out what was going on.
This is all from messing about for around 40 minutes or less but overall my opinion was positive.

Uses Cryengine as far as I know, think DF mentioned it in their video.

  • Needs more Hype. Hope this game doesn't let me down.
I Haven't watched anything at all yet nor read any previews. I'm going in cold.

*Edit* Apparently contains spoilers so viewers beware (Why do marketing teams do this??!)

Thinking of getting this myself. Haven't read or watched anything on it. It's only €31 on cdkeys and that includes the DLC. Surely worth a punt.

    question for the PC

    Will this have 3400 x 1440 21:9 ?

It's powered by cryengine as someone mentioned above. Tried to find info on scalability and resolution bit got nothing but you could base it on another cryengine game as a start point.
If you are getting pc I'd hold off for a few days after launch
Arkane seem to have a bad history with launch of PC ports

Cryengine on anything developed by anyone but Crytech has a bad track record regardless of platform, but digital foundry seemed optimistic and surprised by what they saw in the demo. But for PC deffo hold off until the reviews are in for tech performance.

Achievement list out, looks very Deus Ex / Dishonored. At a glance 2 play minimum.

just played about 30 minutes on pc got one crash at the end so have decided to head off to bed

59.99 in Smyths for console versions
    Argos showing it as unavailable

ACG have given it a good review. Bought it on cdkeys last night. Will download after work.

Usual trick of using the UK catalogue number not working either but it's showing as 44.99 in UK so hoping that translates to 55 here when they update the site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,751 ✭✭✭✭degrassinoel

bought it for a reasonable price on GMG last night, feels a lot like system shock/bioshock, so far so good.

53.99 in Agros. Lack off reviews is keeping me from purchasing right now.

Nothing messy about Dishonored 2. Good game.

Enjoyed the original Prey. Pretty standard FPS but well-executed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,205 ✭✭✭✭B.A._Baracus

Theres a one hour demo? Sweet. Consider me downloading. Hope it's not only available to live/psn subscribers? (not by my console so can't check myself)

I really enjoyed Prey 1. I consider it one of the best early on xbox 360 titles. That and Dead Rising.... Man I'm getting old :( both were released in 2006.

But I get that this is a reboot but I hope they include elements of the first game. Other wise why call it Prey.

Wow it's not easy starting out , had to bump the difficulty down a bit due to
mimics making bits of me, bloody things leaping at suddenly you
as you explore and loot the offices. I took to carrying a turret around
to deal with the guys in the trauma center
    :D

How are folks play? I had it in mind i'd do it like dishonored , no powers in the first run and no human kills but I'm not sure if I've messed that one up already
as I just noticed the mutants in the trauma center had names
    when I examined the corpses.

  • I played for 4 hours straight last night. Couldn't put it down. After having watched nothing and going into this cold it really was a great start so far.

Reminds me so much of System Shock, loving it. I'm playing on Hard. Perfect balance in the game-play but I love a challenge.

I'd spoiler out some of the above Enfilade^

Yeah big time reminds me of system shock.

Someones already found a way to dupe materials. I'll resist the urge for now :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 876 ✭✭✭bigphil2

Fantastic Game.. counting down the clock in work till i can get back to it...

Is it safe to stash items on a corpse? got a few things I don't want to carry for now but rather not loose.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,168 ✭✭✭Grahamer666

I've never played the System Shock games so can't compare but it really reminds me of Half Life 2. Also the gloo gun reminds me of Portal 2 for some reason. The game also runs flawlessly on my rig. No hiccups so far.

Best game I've played in a long time.

I'm too lazy to Google so just gonna ask those who played the demo is this 1st or 3rd person view. I find FP view very hard to play.

In fact, was only able to play RE7 in VR mode.
