See what I did above?? Mary of the 4th Form is my favourite Boomtown Rats song - better choice than Looking After No. 1, which a previous poster thought was played! I haven't heard Splodg. in years - would have loved to have heard that song.

So the complete lineup for John Clarke's Top 10 was:
10 - Pretty Vacant by the Sex Pistols
9 - Do What You Wanna Do by Eddie and The Hot Rods.
8 - Down at the Doctor by Doctor Feelgood
7 - Dancing The Night Away by The Motors
6 - Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps Please by Splodgenessabounds
5 - Mary of the 4th Form by The Boomtown Rats
4 - TV Screen by The Radiators from Space
3 - Another Girl Another Planet by The Only ones
2 - London Calling by The Clash
1 - Teenage Kicks by The Undertones

Okay, a relatively safe playlist but still good to hear.

See what i did there Declan.............:D:D:D

This is the bestest version of this............

Max, was that you on Morning Glory this morning? The man who rang in to do a 'mime' of a man taking a frozen chicken out of a microwave? Marty and Connor weren't impressed. It sounded like the type of divilment that you would perpetrate upon them
    :-D

Around 8:20/8:30. It was a competition to win tickets for 'Doomdah', it's a comedy show. So basically they were asking listeners to ring in and give their best 'Doomdah' over the phone. One bloke rang in and said he was going to mime it for them, and also mime the act of taking a frozen chicken out of a microwave. I think he was trying to be funny (had it been you, it would have been hilarious) and he thought they would appreciate it, given it was for comedy tickets. But it backfired and Marty cut him off on the spot.

Cutting him off seemed a bit over the top alright. I get the joke he was trying to make, mime equates to nothing but silence on the radio. Marty and Connor didn't go for it, fine. But they could have just asked him to give a 'Doomdah' as per the rules of the competition rather than cutting him off. You could hear the awkwardness in the air after they cut him. Foil, Arms & Hogg (their guests whose show the tickets were for) didn't know what to say.

I'm much the same. Nova is our station at work, so I'm kind of stuck with it. My guess is 30% less ads (according to them), but 30% more self praise.

Theres no doubting its popular, most houses I go to have it on..but I don't thing they're "listeners" per se..just on in the background...and to pretend the house isnt empty..:)

That's funny, I think one of their grandstanding announcements, sorry, ads, has one of their 'listeners' describing that very scenario: 'Me and the wife and kids listen to it all day. The telly doesn't even go on in the house' (not the exact quote).

Turning up at interviews bare chested in ball strangling spandex and sporting a freshly coiffured mullet probably isn't helping his employment prospects either.

    Dear Nova Dad,

We regret to inform you that your recent application for the position of till operator was unsuccessful on this occasion.

Thank you for your interest and the best of luck in all your future endeavors (believe me, you'll need it). Unfortunately, Some Guys Have All the Luck and you're not one of them.

    Kisses

Anyone know what's up with Friday Night 80s? Is Tim Kelly gone or taking a few weeks off?

    Dear BBB
Thank you for your swift reply regarding my recent employment application.Thankfully you decided against emoloying me at this stage, but as i didnt want the job anyway but needed a refusal letter for the social welfare dont feel bad. This gives me many months of free handouts over the summer months so i can continue to listen to my favorite rock station Radio Nova while drinking many cans in my back garden. It also gives me more time to concentrate on entering their incredible competitions and phone in to express my huge satisfaction with the aforementioned station..

    Yours
Joe Le Taxi..(at night only tho!!)....

    Dearest Joe,

Your recent correspondence has touched us deeply. It's unemployed, aging rockers like you who stick it to the man (the kids these days don't even know they're born). You may not be able to beat the system, but you can get your own back, say, by driving a taxi whilst claiming benefits.

Branigan's Bargain Basement prides itself on its unrivaled ability to spot talent when we see it. Granted, your interview was the opportune time to spot said talent, but let's not split hairs.

Your voice-over on Radio Nova was very impressive, I almost believed it was a good station. Perhaps you could do a similar voice over for us? Maybe we could even run it on Nova? 'After I collect my dole, I can always trust Branigan's Bargain Basement to have the largest selection of beer and cigarettes from Eastern Europe at Eastern European prices. It's the perfect accompaniment for when I listen to Radio Nova' (obviously don't mention the duty ducking).

Just heard promo for Fri Night 80s........with Dee Woods. Hopefully Tim Kelly hasn't been given the boot.

Hopefully not, the main thing that got me listening to Friday Night 80s on Nova was Tim Kelly. I think having that link to the old Today FM gave the show an authenticity that it wouldn't have had if one of the regular Nova presenters had got the job. Would be a shame if he was shafted after only a few months! But I guess we'll know for sure soon enough.

Has Colm Hayes appeared on the station since his Christmas/new year fill ins ? All the talk was that he was getting a big gig at the station, I guess nova wouldn't be able to afford the hefty fee he would command

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 115 ✭✭jimmymack

I was just thinking that the other day, haven't heard anything about him since he filled in for John Clarke. Bit odd that'd he do a few weeks and then disappear again, they mustn't have agreed any permanent deal in the end.

Yeah...they'd have to sack Miller and Courtenay to pay his wages...that would be awful...wouldnt it.....:p

I read last year that Nova were hoping for a national FM licence,a lot of places were mentioned where they hope to broadcaast to but Sligo and the north west wasn't mentioned! I wonder why as we have all the other Irish national stations from Truskmore. We never get the DAB trials or even Christmas FM here either,is it an advertising reason I wonder?

Most of the East coast don't even know we exist at all :D Highland, Ocean and iRadio have most of the radio listenership up here so Nova probably don't think they'll get any listeners.

Edit.....Just thinking that seemed familiar. It's over a year old.
