I have to laugh, our aircraft are equipped with Bose A20s which are awesome noise cancelling headsets IF you put a battery in them, it always amazes me that none of my colleagues have worked this little fact out.

Do you work for a passenger airline?

Never knew about the A20s, looks like a serious pair of headphones. Presumably a lot better than the QC35s irrespective of the airline specific features? If money were no object..

I'd like to buy a quality set of head phones. Sony MDR-1000x Or QC35. I don't use any at the moment. In the past I've used relatively cheap in ear pieces. Comfort and style/look would be important. Having read the thread how important do people rate ANC as a feature? And would preference be for the Sony MDR-1000x Or QC-35s?

    Thanks for your help.

Can't comment on the MDR-1000x but I have the QC35s and the first thing I noticed about them is how comfortable they are to wear. You could wear them all day no problem. I've had other headphones in the past that became comfortable after a while but with the QC35s it's not an issue. Obviously they look great as well. The ANC works best with continuous noise like on an airplane or something like that, but it also does a good job at quietening things like voices and other noise. If ANC isn't something you think you'll need you could probably get a pair of headphones that would be better audio quality wise than the Bose or Sony ANC headphones for the same price or cheaper.

I suspect the ANC would be tuned just for aircraft use, but probably wouldn't be as good for office use and probably doesn't have as good music audio quality.

As all of these things are trade off's. I suspect the QC35's would be more tuned for good quality music, rather then all out ANC, being consumer headphones.

Also I'd suspect simply the much larger size of the A20's and the materials they are made out of greatly improve their passive noise isolation.

Again another trade off, consumers wouldn't want such a large and bulky headphone, so the QC35's are more slim line.

    That's a lot of suspecting.

This thread has a lot of fantasising :)

The A20s have a phone connection for calls and music. I have no idea how good the music quality is as that's not what I use them for. One of the benefits of the heavier build is that they survive the abuse that they get from multiple users rather than someone's personal headset.

Why are there so many pilots on Bargain Alerts? Aren't you guys paid well enough?!

What has your pay got to do with wanting a bargain?

If I was a millionaire I'd still be in here looking for bargains.

I can confirm that is realistic.

I actually am a millionaire* and still like a bargain.

@frag420...... even though the cabin is super quiet, the headsets make a huge difference by reducing noise stress.

I do actually make a living flying the smaller version of this, so my hearing is quite important to me.

Everyone seems to have tried and recommends the bose, but has anyone tried the MDR-1000x? What your opinions on them, still happy with the purchase? How would they work on a neighbors house alarm?

I see the sonys are 300e on amazon.de and the bose are 320 on amazon.es in case anyone is looking

I haven't tried them myself, but on other forums the Sony are well reviewed. It seems to come down to personal preference between these and the QC35's

However it terms of blocking out a neighbours house alarm, the Sony's should do a slightly better job then the QC35's according to lab tests.

Something to consider. I just replaced a pair of QC25s I bought in store just over two years ago. Sound had gone on one headphone. Replaced, for free, no fuss. Boxed and sealed new pair. Excellent customer service from BOSE.

I bought a pair of the Sonys after seeing the link here (thanks Pivot Eoin) and I absolutely love them. I can't compare them to the Bose 35s as I've never used a pair of those but I'm very happy. The noise cancelling is brilliant it's something else when it turns on and the world goes so quiet around you and the sound of them is crisp clear and rich and just very enjoyable all around. I like all the added functionality like the touch controls etc. so yea I think they're well worth buying if you're thinking of it.

Also for those still wanting the QC 35s they're 299 with amazon.de right now https://www.amazon.de/Bose-QuietComfort-kabellose-Kopfh%C3%B6rer-schwarz/dp/B01E3SNO1G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493828527&sr=8-1&keywords=bose+qc35

Has the firmware issue with the QC35s, mentioned on here a few weeks ago, been sorted by Bose?

No, but they will accept a return for refund if you want it

I love the Sonys and my friend has the Bose 35s - both well worth the money!

I just bought the Sony MDR-100 ABNs, i suppose the baby brother to the MDR-1000x (Or the QC25 to the QC35s) for 135euro delivered from Amazon Warehouse Deals. Pretty happy considering their sound is meant to be better than the QC35s, if not as good Noise Cancelling, and not as comfortable. But for 160 euro savings I can live with that.

Also had a good look at Parrot Zik 2.0/3.0 but their battery life is half of the ones mentioned above. Will post here with an updated review.

hmm am i alone here, i can't wear my 35's all day, yes they are comfortable but the actual noise cancellation sensation/feeling makes me want to give my ears a rest after a while - almost as if, if i don't take them off i will freak out! weird. great headphones in moderation though ;)

Some people are sensitive to the technology, it's not that uncommon; usually the complaint is they have a feeling similar to sea sickness.
