    Hi,

For the last few weeks KN have been laying what I hope is fibre cable around my village of Pallasgreen, Co Limerick. I'm very interested in getting this when it goes live on the 3rd of may, but I havn't had a active phone line in almost 10 years as the broadband was so bad I cancel my service with eircom. My question is can I order the FTTH broadband on eir.ie when the service goes live on the 3rd or do I have to reactivate my phone line and then order broadband through my old copper phone line and then try and order the FTTH and get the fibre intalled in the house,

    thanks in advance.

Tommy i forgot to add also that you dont have to get the FTTH off eir as alot of people dont realise ,go to the fibre rollout web site and it lists all the providers that do the FTTH

they must have just updated this today.

The Eir Fibre Extreme brand now no longer exists, its now called Eir Fibre To The Home, a far better name and less confusing as too many were getting Eir Fibre and Eir Fibre Extreme mixed up.

The Line checker has also changed to just an eircode checker. My Eircode is still failing and points me to look for normal broadband!

I think we will need official word from an Eir rep on the status of the fair usage policy for FTTH before we all start exceeding 1tb per month!

When I log into my eir this is what the usage calculator tells me:

    Your Broadband allowance
    Unlimited
Total downloads to date this month
    260.58 GB
Total uploads to date this month
    14.08 GB
Total upload/download used up to date/time
    274.66 GB
    Percentage used up to date/time
    n/a
    Broadband allowance remaining
    Unlimited

that looks like concrete evidence that there really is no usage limits, but people have got charged recently for going over and all packages have been showing unlimited for months now so I don't fully believe it's truly unlimited just yet.

Can the eir yellowlines map be screenshot at zoomed in stages and then restitched together and is there an google option like for navi's spreadsheet to draw different colour on the lines ie red, that people see that are ftth fibre run and s.boxed and then people can easily see the spread of routes completed.. And there are routes done way before there actual live date of a year away...that are not in navi's list but presume eir are counting them therein showing the two different totals

When I was looking to do my alternative map I did not see such a feature available in google's mapping options. It may be available though in other commercial software. I'm not sure how easy of a task it would be to copy the yellow lines to another platform.

The Openeir map has not been updated since the 6th of April so there is no way to verify their claims of 40000 premises being passed. Personally I feel it is somewhat of an exaggeration. The last total I had was 22260 (excluding urban-rural). It seems too big of a gap to get to 40000 even though there are a lot of areas due on the 3rd of May.

I reckon the 40,000 figure will include all the premises passed after May 3rd.

Is May 3rd not 'connection date' rather than 'premises passed'?

Seems to me that the majority (all?) of those premises would have been passed well before that date.

I think it's both, I'm just guessing the 40k is already passed and known by Eir, but the Open Eir map won't reflect this till after May 3rd.

So we're saying "passed" implies "connectible"?

I still don't think it will make 40000 actually available to order. It is unlikely that every premises in every exchange announced will go live on the 3rd . Perhaps they do have 40000 premises with fibre outside the door but not all premises will be able to order.

"connectible" ...... yes, if eir decide to do so. There are many reasons they might not make a particular premises available for connection initially.

You are probably right ........ the agreement is for premises passed so the figure is quite likely to exceed the number of premises that can be connected during the initial stage of the roll out.

Good luck to anyone that can get it installed.

Order date 8th March > Install Date 24th March > Forecast date 21st April.

Now latest forecast date 24th July.

I have had to cancel since they do not know their heads from their @$$

If a section of yellow line is fibred its deemed passed obviously...as the fibred section would be logged as having been done.

Have eir gotten rid of the 300mb package? I don't see it here -> https://www.eir.ie/broadband/1000mb-fibre/ anymore?

since my eircode doesnt work, I tried a neighbours eircode to see what happens on that page and it just sends you to a form where an Eir sales rep will get back to you. You can't place an order from that page at all. The only way to do it is on the main broadband page by inputing your phone number. The 300meg package still exists, once you start placing an order you get options to change the speed you want in one of the steps.

I've just asked about the fair usage policy for FTTH on the Eir boards forum. I think we should have some clarification on this policy since the website got updated over the weekend!. Hopefully we will have a definite answer soon.

My usage stats posted yesterday are quite low, I was saving up the rest of it for the end of the month, I really can't afford to pay excess charges for going over the limit so just want to play it safe untill I know that the service is truly unlimited.

The modem arrived before installation? Normally the KN installer brings it on the day of installation?

That's what I thought as well. But I got a vague text message from eir yesterday saying "Thank you for your order, it will be delivered by Nightline on 24 April...."

No mention of what "it" actually is in the text message! I assumed it was the modem.

got official word there, all Eir's FTTH plans are under the 1tb fair usage policy same as ADSL and FTTC plans, so sadly no truly unlimited and excess charges apply.

In the era of 1000mb speeds that has to be false advertising by Eir

Is the F2000 not a DSL modem, or do they supply it for FTTH installations also?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,434 ✭✭✭chewed

Quick question on modem location. My house is about 1700 sq feet. Would the hallway be adequate enough to have access throughout the house (upstairs and downstairs)? Currently I have my 4G modem upstairs in the back bedroom because the vodafone antenna is in line of sight from that window. Would I better off putting the modem up on the top landing? I use internet throughout the house.

except the document that she linked to doesn't say anything about fair usage policies at all...... never mind a 1TB limit.
