Have a couple of heifers out of Lanigan Red Graham here cracking stock, all 5 star hopefully will make great cows.

Had one do similar this year milkwise & calving early. Few days of dairy nuts sorted her out and calf is flying now.

That's the plan. Went up to give a bit of beastings- calf only took 500ml. But heifer has cleaned a bit and seems to have a little bit of springing happening

If the calf is small that's plenty, time and patience!

You want to know what you're at. Fattening bulls is a very specialist game. They also will consume a lot of meal to finish. And if there's a glut of cattle when they are ready to go, they are the first to be cut. Then they may not cover their costs, you may even lose money. Why are you set on bulls? Buy a few heifers or bullocks for the grass and finish on a few pound of meal if you want.

if theyre going to be fit for may ish theyll be ok imo, chx would be my preference not white charolais tho limousin or blue , do not use extreme muscled bulls either as its very hard to get the fat cover on them. if theyre inspec in april-may theres a bit of money in them otherwise its extremely difficult

Just going over cattle sales while filling in what went to factory yesterday. The most gross margin i have had on stock was 15mt old dairy bulls all bought as sucks for 330ish and finished at 1350ish. Yes it costs a lot to finish them and yes its very easy to get caught by lameness, bullying, staleness with the amount of meal etc but if done right and killed at right time of yr a lad could do ok. Hard to buy suckler bred stock at small enough money to make it work.

Just did that. Thanks. At least I know her belly is full.

The heifer has cleaned now, and has started to spring. I'll get some dairy nuts tomorrow.

What's in dairy nuts that pushes milk as opposed to beef nuts? Just curiosity.

Ah my lovelies.....wondering when you'd come to get me. :pac:
Outfarm is now covered with them on the walk in.
Yes my nails are usually that long, no they're not normally as dirty.

It could be just the name. But there are nutritional cycles that can be tweaked to push milk production by certain ingredients

If we don't get rain soon these lads could be in trouble. Stagnant water in a drain near the house is alive with the little feckers. If they do make it I could be overrun with frogs.

Keep an eye on them. I think they turn cannibal if they can't get enough grub otherwise. Though if they dry out no amount of grub will save them!

My place is over run with frogs, they could be toads either, I'm no expert, 'hoppy things.' :)

Loads of them out at night. It's amazing all the different animals/creatures that are living on a farm if we just look a little closer. It's not just livestock!

What breed were these CC? Were they Herdford x Fr? How much tonne of meal to finish?
