Reading something on instagram about hernandez.

As he died while appealing it means he hasn't been found guilty due to some old law.

This apparently means the Patriots are on the hook for 15 million in guarantee money which his daughter will get

    May be bull**** though

He definitely didn't die a convicted murderer as he was found not guilty of the second one and was appealing the first charge.

Don't know about the Pats being on the hook though.

But he was found guilty which is the reason he was in jail. I know he was appealing it but until that appeal had run its course he was still guilty surely ?

I'd say the patriots had some clause in his contract that would have stopped him getting it back after the fact.

It would seem so mr heli. Well either way it's a horrible end of another life in what has not been a cheerful subject.

Id imagine the use of language such as incarcerated as opposed to convicted in the contract would mean it remains void?

Other week 1 games I've seen rumoured are Cowboys v Giants, Packers v Seahawks and a MNF between Vikings and Saints

I presume the 49ers will get their usual very late MNF, kicking off at 3am or something ridiculous like that.

There's always 2 MNF games in week 1. A east coast and west coast

49ers start v Carolina, followed by @ Seattle.

Cowboys v Giants in week one, there's a surprise.

Cowboys have also added Robert Blanton to provide safety depth

Titans schedule looks tough in parts, we play all of the AFC north one after the other. 2 west coast games so it seems we may stay out there.

2 primetime games (neither are TNF against the Jags - no more jokes about that!

The Ross Tucker podcast is a good listen and the latest episode has Michael North who is the executive in charge of schuduling

He explains how ridiculously complicated making a schedule is and just one change will affect countless other games.

They have to look at extradinory requests such as concerts or Pope Francis visiting Philadelphia for example.

For all their efforts and months of work they recieve derision and fans and coaches believe the NFL hold a grudge and screwed them. Coaches blast them in the media and fans go crazy on message boards "the league screwed us......"

Networks make demands and as they pay billions they have to be kept happy.

Sometimes clashes happens such as the Ravens were to play at home week 1 when they were champions as is tradition for champions but the MLB schedule was out first and the Orioles has a game scheduled, they play next door to the football stadium.

They are a thousand and one factors that go into a schedule and also traditions like the Lions and Cowboys for Thanksgiving.

The executive says they know they will never recieve praise and all they hope is for everyone hates them equally because they shows at least they were fair

    A good listen

I never understood the fascination in NFL players doing this. Is there any benefit to it? Is there any difference to their future income with regards to who you retire with? Do they get paid for the day?

It takes three accrued seasons to get a pension so the one day signing makes no difference. There is no pay, maybe a dollar just to have a contract

It's just symbolic and a chance to have a press conference and say thank you and have your time in the local and national media :)

I remember some lesser known Offensive Lineman did an AMA on reddit and mentioned the 401k plan.

    Dug this up:
The dollar amount of a former NFL player’s pension check depends on how many years he played in the NFL. There is no universal NFL retirement pay. Once eligible, the player receives a credit for each year played that equates to a certain monthly pension amount—for example, for seasons played from 1998 to 2011 this amount was $470.

NFL pension plan amounts received are increased periodically and are the same for all players regardless of salary. Currently, a player with the minimum three years of play would receive an annual pension check of $21,360 at retirement. On average, retired players receive an annual pension check of about $43,000.

Players who take advantage of the 401(k) plan would also be able to make withdrawals from that account when eligible. Obviously the amount of this benefit would depend on how much he chose to contribute to the plan while he was still earning money.
Similarly, players with an annuity could be receiving payments from that as well. Again, the amount would depend on the total amount of the annuity; it would also depend on how the player chose to receive payments (age to start and frequency of payments).

    Seems like a weird fit

I agree when Brees is throwing for 5k+ yards a season, giving him a pro bowl RB seems strange..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,475 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

The scheme doesn't fit, the personnel with Ingram being the main man there, and a fit for said scheme, doesn't either.

Very surprised with this one. Is AP essentially going to be a role, 2nd string type of back? I know NO rotate out of the backfield, but AP isn't catching the ball from the backfield for you and is surely still too good/expensive to be just a short yardage back?

Also, not too sure that he's ever been a great short yardage back either. He's a 2 yard, 1 yard, 20 yard type guy.

The thing is Peterson has never been a great pass catcher, route runner or if I recall pass blocker. He's OK at them but far from special, only averages 31 catches for 250 yards over 16 games through his career.

They might be looking to keep an eye on preserving Brees/giving him a sledgehammer like the Patriots did with Blount and Brady in recent years, but if they're sticking to how they've played for the last decade I think Jamaal Charles might have been a better option in terms of injury prone, once-great RBs to try and get a final push out of.
