Apply for BTEA or find a VTOS course in computers if they interest you so much. I did Comptia A+, CCNA and Level 6 advanced cert in systems & networks through VTOS in 2 years a few years back. You were allowed work through the summer and keep payment as well. Not many country's in the world who will pay for and pay you to get educated. You may as well take advantage of it.

FIT (fastrack to IT, a non profit training company) also have an apprenticeship type thing up and running in software development or networking. They link you in with a company (Accenture, IBM etc) and the company pay you (starts around 350 up to 400 odd in last year) to go to college 3 days a week and work with them for the other 2. You get certified by QQI and City & Guilds and are very likely to be offered a permanent position at the end of the apprenticeship. Link here:

Plenty of options for you, but you seriously need to lose the idea of being able to get by in life with no formal qualifications. The world has moved on from that, and you have to adapt or face a life of misery on the dole.

I am a recruiter, if you want to send me your real CV (without name/contact details) I'll review it and suggest edits to gear it towards what you're looking for.

As for job hunting, take ANYTHING you can get, if it means getting night buses or imposing on family for lifts just do it. The likes of Pinergy, Airtricity, FMI (Virgin Media/Electric Ireland) etc. will take you on and pay you a salary to do D2D sales once you can walk, talk and dress yourself. Some people look down on this kind of work but it'll give you a good grounding and a lot of good call centre agents started in D2D sales. I am currently recruiting for a call centre role in Dublin and the standard I'm getting is pretty high.

Did you get an IT job out of it though.

Yeah, a few short term contracts upgrading ATM's. To be honest with you I didn't enjoy the work though, so I now work in a completely unrelated field. Helped me get a start and experience on the CV though.

in the year 2017 someone who has not done the leaving cert despite having the ability to do so has some issue going on and perhaps that is what is preventing them getting a job.

Take any job, and be applying for other jobs while you're working. You're always more favourable when you're employed. You can't go from nothing and no qualifications to €400 a week just because you say so. Stop lying and get working. I see signs up on windows constantly looking for people. Would you work in a bar? One week and you'd be trained. Most employers love hiring people who've worked in bars because if you can deal with drunks you can deal with anyone.

Bus eireann and halpennys bus have regular services.
Loads of Dundalkers are working in Newry now.
