    Technically it is a theory...
But Newton's "Law" of gravitation is still technically a law.

Gravity is the phenomenon. Einstein's theory of general relativity describes the reason for the phenomenon. Newton's Law describes the magnitude of the "force" between two point masses.

Could be very wrong of course :D[/QUOTE]

Gravity is the theory behind the phenomenon. The reason it is a theory is technically is not proven... we see the effects, but Gravity acts very different when we look at the sub atomic or quantum mechanics so not fully understood.

Will it still apply post brexit?

I'd love to scatter those Council bollards, about a mile of them.
I was sorely tempted yesterday to 'clip an' scatter' a line of them on the road between Kildare and Thurles!

One of these days ole Dan'll be to darn old to resist !

Yes. That would be my choice too.

I break hundreds of laws every day, as do we all.
No end of people to warn me what I'm doing is against the law and I'll be got. Never happened yet though.
It's only against the law if you get caught, charged and convicted.
If you can just keep it to not getting caught then all the better.
I'm gonna watch the walking dead on an android box tonight. I'm shaking, but I'll chance it.

Time travel to meet my younger self (usually an unbreakable temporal law).

    With some Euromillions numbers.

The universe might fold in on itself and blink out of existence, but at least I'd be rich.

In scientific speak - theories always remain theories, it just means explanation. A theory can't be upgraded to a law. Laws are fundamental relationships, theories flesh out the details of those laws.

The general everyday usage of the word theory as in a hunch or an inkling, in science speak is called a hypothesis.

The law I'd like to break is Murphy's law. For once I'd like something that could go wrong, not to - just to see what that's like for a change:mad:

Why'd the guy who said rape get such a hard time but the people saying murder are fine?

    Strange world we're living in.

I read the first line of your post thinking, awww that's a lovely peaceful way of breaking the law. Getting rich without causing harm or damage. Then I got to the final sentence :pac:

Never understood this. Poster few comments above wants to murder multiple people and no one seems to have an issue with that? Murder is alot worst then rape.

Why are some crimes ok, like genocide, murdering (identifiable) people and beastiality, but others are not, like rape.

My moral compass has bent in on itself and i'm not sure which direction to point towards.

Because any man can be a rapist but not any man can commit genocide, too close to home

Why'd the guy who said rape get such a hard time but the people saying murder are fine?

    Strange world we're living in.

Because we've become utterly desensitised to killing. Our literature for thousands of years and our movies and stories now involve killing and fighting. Fighting is seen as commonplace, normal even. Almost everything we have now is built on fighting and killing each other. We were all brought up with stories — both historical and fictional — about huge battles for power, glory and what have you. We let our children play games involving shooting, fighting and killing to various extents — whether it's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Space Invaders or Call of Duty. So people don't bat an eyelid when someone talks about killing.

On the contrary, movies about raping people aren't blockbuster hits, top seller books rarely involve people raping each other, people don't resort to trying to rape each after disagreements.

So for all the smartarses who came here to post about rape or think you're oh so clever for pointing out the injustice of not being able to joke about rape, it's not the same thing. You weren't brought up on stories of rape. You didn't queue outside a store to buy the latest rape game. Your forefathers did not rape each other for independence.

Jokes about rape aren't tolerated in our culture. By extension, it was never tolerated in AH and never will be. Having said that, if anyone talks about murder or physical violence in a way that goes over the line, they'll find themselves banned fairly swiftly too.

I'm closing this thread because it always ALWAYS goes down this road and we could do without bitching about rape and murder. This is why we can't have nice things.
