Lock picking practice kit

    Hey BA! I've been playing Assassin's Creed Syndicate recently and you have the ability to pick locks of doors and chests in the game. What I thought would be pretty cool is if you could do it in real life, it's something I always wanted to learn. Not to use it for malicious reasons but just to know. I was looking around on a couple of different sites and found a cheap kit for beginners to learn. This particular set is on sale at the moment for €8.75. I bought a set and can't wait for it to arrive, I think I'd share it here if people had a similar interest to my own. Hope it helps someone!

    I spent 40 quid on a practice lock at DefCon. 8.75 for the lock and picks is phenominal value. Thanks for letting us know.

    If you get one you will appreciate that rusty old lock thats a bugger to open -as it would be near impossible to pick. You will also be inspecting how lads in films or TV do it and notice many are nonsense.

    These pop up on Amazon from time to time. I think the law states you have to have cause to have in in your possession. I don't think saying hobbyist would suffice :)

    Are they legal & could you be prosecuted for being equipped to steal ? Locksmiths have to be registered with the PSA

    There was a discussion over in Legal Discussions some time back. To sum it up, the jury is out. Theres something of a question mark over intent, otherwise hammers, bolt cutters and crowbars would all be illegal.

    If I was ever challenged about having them I would simply say, Im a Pen Tester and while my focus is on application and network penetration testing, from time to time I may need to test physical security for a client.

    I once had two guards staring at me in Tescos. As I left the store they pointed to the knife attached to my Snickers Trousers. I said that it was a tool for my work & they said fine "as long a you don't have it with you at night in shop street"
