Hey BA! I've been playing Assassin's Creed Syndicate recently and you have the ability to pick locks of doors and chests in the game. What I thought would be pretty cool is if you could do it in real life, it's something I always wanted to learn. Not to use it for malicious reasons but just to know. I was looking around on a couple of different sites and found a cheap kit for beginners to learn. This particular set is on sale at the moment for €8.75. I bought a set and can't wait for it to arrive, I think I'd share it here if people had a similar interest to my own. Hope it helps someone!

I spent 40 quid on a practice lock at DefCon. 8.75 for the lock and picks is phenominal value. Thanks for letting us know.

Does boards have a lock picking forum? Looks like this topic would be popular. :)

If you get one you will appreciate that rusty old lock thats a bugger to open -as it would be near impossible to pick. You will also be inspecting how lads in films or TV do it and notice many are nonsense.

I'd probably get in trouble for linking it to you but the MIT book is THE book on the subject.

These pop up on Amazon from time to time. I think the law states you have to have cause to have in in your possession. I don't think saying hobbyist would suffice :)

Are they legal & could you be prosecuted for being equipped to steal ? Locksmiths have to be registered with the PSA

There was a discussion over in Legal Discussions some time back. To sum it up, the jury is out. Theres something of a question mark over intent, otherwise hammers, bolt cutters and crowbars would all be illegal.

If I was ever challenged about having them I would simply say, Im a Pen Tester and while my focus is on application and network penetration testing, from time to time I may need to test physical security for a client.

I remembered that which is why I posted. Might be an issue if customs open it.

I once had two guards staring at me in Tescos. As I left the store they pointed to the knife attached to my Snickers Trousers. I said that it was a tool for my work & they said fine "as long a you don't have it with you at night in shop street"

Got cheap set years ago. Lets just say in my day job from time to time someone loses keys or locks themselves out. I'm not a locks smith, but one day this fella came into job saying his front door blew shut (likely story ive never heard before).

Got I.D from him and walked over to his house, had him in house within 30 seconds using lock pick set. I was in shock myself at how easy it was. Saved me having to barrel or snap euro cylinder....:)

Just for what it's worth you can get those on amazon too.

They're dearer and all so good spot op and thanks for posting this. I'm only mentioning it for people worried about customs etc. I don't know how much of an issue it could be given how freely available they are here (I've no legal expertise but give amazon's reputability I can't imagine something that was clearly illegal could be so freely available off them)

There was a timer on the offer earlier. It was around 250 pieces at £7.48 when I first checked it, by the time I got around to ordering it it was down to 231.

You can get 6% back with TopCashBack also!

This could be the first bargain alert to save me money rather than impulse buying. I put this in my amazon basket yesterday morning.

Now I'm conflicted whether I want to spend the extra E8 and have it next week or am I willing to wait possibly up to 3 months

Plus shipping. Defeats the bargain. I've no break-ins planned for the coming weeks so I'll just wait it out.

I had other stuff on order as well so no delivery to worry about. Still i decided I'm cheap so ordered from China.
Now cue me losing my keys in the next few weeks before this arrives...

    Thanks OP :)

It's gonna be interesting to see how the Garda statistics handle this influx of lockpicking kits into the country over the next month or so . How many million extra break ins do you think they'll get out of it :)

Always been interested in trying this. Thanks OP!
