Yeah Ken is good at many things, but accurately predicting future results in football is definitely not his bag.

Isn't he pretty woeful too? Seem to recall him on RTE constantly tipping teams to go far in competitions and then them crashing out early.

Would actually be useful to know if any particular pundit/site had an exceptional record in this regard. For, eh, research purposes of course

There is nobody quite like Miguel Delaney to have me reaching for the fast forward button..

Yup likewise. Cancelled my subscription today. I wish the lads all the best but other than Ken's non-sport related stuff I'm a bit disappointed with content, and have been fast-forwarding or deleting most of their episodes since their world service changeover.

Hope it works out for them.

Thinking of doing the same tbh.

Thinking of dropping my sub as well as i just haven't been getting the time to listen to them. Never received my welcome pack either and was a member before the first episode came out.

I only received mine a couple of days ago and , like yourself, was signed up right from the start.

I'm really enjoying the way it's working out, I can skip the Gaa chat and still have more than enough to listen to.

The day to day updates are great. Easily the best €6 I'll spend a month!

Really makes 2 hours commuting a day easier to take.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,777 ✭✭✭✭lawred2

I love having a podcast every day to get me in and out to work. I think it's working out brilliantly and the majority of content is superb imo. It's only the very rare segments that I skip over

Richie's sit down with Kerr was great stuff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,137 ✭✭✭c montgomery

Yup I'm enjoying it too and find it good value for money.

Before I'd listen to the rugby chat without much interest as it was still better than the radio but now they have enough content that I can skip the rugby and still have enough material to last my commute.

I dislike the 40-45 min shows tho, feel a bit short changed after them.

Last Fairview, the best of the lot!!

Would be cool if Ken did a Sunday newspaper review type show maybe even just once a month, just to change things up a bit.

Just as an update, a polite no from the SC lads I think.
Thanks for the email. We do all read the Sunday papers (I'm reading one right now actually) and do our best to bring the best stories from them so in a way we cover it, but I know what you mean.

Will put that idea in the hopper.

    Cheers

    Simon

Love the podcast, and have subscribed to the extras. Ken is a bit too much with his mild, yet opinionated, South Dublin view of the world at times. It's all modern FG and Labour at the end of the day. Liberalism.

Most of the really good podcasts are looking for money off Patreon. Time for Patreon to offer a premium service at a price point that doesn't diverge much from the Netflix or Spotify pricing model?

Would be very interesting to heat SC vs OTB in a straight up Paper-Review-off.

As a big fan of the OTB version, my money is on Second Captains.

What view of the world should he have? that's where he's from sure.

I’m glad they’ve gone back to giving murph a break every 2nd episode or so of the football podcast. His butting in and labouring the point can get a bit, I mean, you know, em, tiresome. I do like murph but not tooooo much of murph. Also I really like the dynamic of just ken and eoin and their sometimes wandering football chats over the relaxing background music. Takes me back to the old Off the ball days.

More over analysis of Manager press conferences today. This time Moyes. Appartently Moyes was too negative and should have come in like a positive ray of sunshine into the club, thereby setting himself up for fall and making himself look stupid when they flopped.

Ken's reliance on psychoanalysis of manager's media comments is becoming very grating.

I prefer that to some anoraky discussion about tactics or results

A mix of both is when the show is at its best.

Fair enough but you get a lot more insight from those type of discussions.

Would you prefer discussions about players rather than managers because Ken is absolutely focused on managers while forgetting about the guys on the actual field?

I don't need insight into whose a good footballer or not... I can see that for myself.

there is more than enough discussion about what lads do out on the field.. The guardian there will waffle endlessly about all the boys who "done good" over the weekend etc

I much prefer Ken's more cerebral take on football.. Plus the stuff out of Mourinho's mouth lately is simply impossible to ignore.

I can't really see why someone would have your point of view. I can see on MOTD or SSN what a manager said and I'm clever enough to know it doesn't mean that much. If it did clubs would employ PR men as their football managers.

I much rather receive the kind of ex-pro's insight that Kilbane or Cunningham provide on OTB where everything is discussed, not just what someone said into a mic 9 months ago

But that's my point - there are plenty of shows/casts/pundits/commentators offering exactly what you're looking for.. There is no real pressing need for more of the same from SC.

Not sure what you mean by 9 months ago... Mourinho has something ridiculous to say almost every day.

Have to say, I laughed out loud at Ken saying how Moyes was such a loser today. Also enjoyed the read through of all his various 'pathetic' quotes from throughout the season. I think Ken is at his best when he's analyzing stuff like that. Also enjoy his bits on Mourinho.. As unsavoury a character that Mourinho can be, he's pure box office at times.

What the hell was going on when mcdevitt cited Ken's article about Neymar being a YouTube footballer as "one he was right about". Yeah Neymar is a Ravel Morrison, adel taraabt style YouTube footballer. He'll be playing for QPR in a couple of years.

Thought the show was crap today and that barely believeable comment from mcdevitt topped it all off.

The phrase YouTube footballer wasn't used in it's understood meaning so I'll give them a pass
