I know I'm late to the party. Just got the update today, loving it so far. A lot faster which was my main gripe.

The simplicity of streaming via beam is fantastic....but how the hell do you watch beam streams?!

Fixed your post for you ... or am I the only gamer with just about enough time to play games and not understand why I would watch someone else play? :)

But what if you could watch people playing games while you are playing games?

Nah I'm just curious really. It's really bugging me now though. Can't find any info on the web either its strange. What's the point in it if nobody can watch you?

Feels like updates have become painfully slow since new dash rolled out.

Yeah agreed they'll either need to be kicked off 2 or 3 times or sit there on 0% for ages before doing anything.

Custom gamer pics live , just changed mine. has to be at least 1080px x 1080px to upload.

Had some photophop stuff I did years ago I had to use my phone to photo the screen to get around that , I did a lot of 640x640 stuff back then.

Update to Alpha Ring adds party overlay, I can switch it on but it doesn't work.

Latest aplha ring update has enabled windows sonic it seems. Haven't had time to test it yet though.

Anyone in alpha getting kicked from parties every 5 minutes?

    There's a problem with it.

Think I've had 4-5 updates this week. Not usually a problem but these have been taking nearly 45 minutes to finish installing

I swear they've slowed down since the new dashboard. I have better internet now than ever and it takes longer than it did on the slower connection.

Weird, I just had the opposite on the last two, download flew and the install was pretty standard.

Just turned mine on and bang another update , I've noticed they are smaller updates. 360mb vs the usual 400+ maybe they've added compression and thats slowing down the install process.

Instant-on has really made me completely unaware of when I've received an update, but I'm on Insider Ring 3, so I think its a much slower schedule there anyway.

Did Microsoft say anything about a new Snap Mode after cruelly removing it?

    I'm ****ing raging over it.

Anyone know if they plan on fixing the menu lag? I'm on the general release, last update introduced the new layout but to me all they have done is move the lag from the main tabs and into the new side bar. On top of that the lag is a lot worse or at least a lot more noticeable.

It was initially meant to get an overlay mode similar to the PiP function on some TV's but I'm not sure what the status of that is. It's certainly not in the current alpha builds.

I'd doubt it very much. Seems like all the gains in speed came at the expense of dropping Snap and the "Live Tile" view on the home screen, which is a fair trade off for most people I'd say.

If there's really bad lag on your system, then something has gone wrong. I'd suggest a using the hard reset that doesn't affect your games, and then setting it up again.

The only thing that really impacts upon guide performance is the number of friends you have apparently.

It's not just limited to friends. My games and apps for example, if I go up and down through the menu options it seems to pause on each option and looks like it is trying to load the list of games even though I haven't stopped on it. So for example I skip over "ready to install" but there is a delay as I pass it as it pulls out my list of ready to install games even though I haven't stopped on that menu option. This goes for every menu option throughout the dashboards. Friends, achievements etc etc.

I can't see how this can be limited to me. It makes sense that if you have a small friends list or games list then this pause to load the page is going to be quicker. That might explain why some don't see the issue. It's just very frustrating, it could easily be fixed by having a 1/2 second delay so that I can skip over menu options without it trying to load them. Also I consider this a major major bug, how it has been left unfixed for so long, it's very poor especially from an OS company.

btw, my friends list is 20. Not exactly huge. I have 100mb broadband and never experience any issues whatsoever related to broadband speed.

    Reset has not fixed it.

Well, something has gone seriously wrong there. I've got 70 odd friends, 70 games installed, 142 ready to install, but I don't have any lag at all. Have you done timings and submitted them through the Insider Hub/report a problem?

I have seen the lag on the old dash on other consoles, on 2 different consoles I think and in both cases it just never registered as lag to the person, as in it just didn't bother them at all. Even just pressing left on the D pad to pull up the sidebar was taking about 2 secs. It just never registered to them even though I was able to reproduce it on their consoles and show it to them.

Also I should say, it's only the first time you open it. Then it seems to have it cached and works fine. I wonder if instant on is more responsive as it might have menus cached. I might give that a try.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,210 ✭✭✭maximoose

It def isn't limited to you and I think you're right about the caching. My console is instant-on, every now and then though (probably after updates and rebooting) I see the lag in My Games and Apps.

It seems to take a couple of seconds to reload thumbnails for apps/games and doesn't let you move through the menu until it has finished, but once it loads them the first time it's fine and moves quickly.

Lightening fast for me on both my Xbox One and Xbox One S.

    2 things I recommend trying.

Hard reset of the console. Hold down the power button for 7 seconds.

Use Google DNS as your primary and secondary DNS in network settings. They are the following.
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4

Also Cortana is unusable. Hey Cortana record that -> Cortana pops up, thinking, thinking....still thinking -> record. By then the thing I wanted to record is long passed. tbh, I think I might just ditch her and the Kinect at this stage but it's just another example of lag.

Thanks for the tips. I'm going to get to the bottom of this, I'll keep you posted in case anyone else has the same issue. I'm adamant it's not a faulty xbox, seems too specific and software related to be a hardware fault. But I could be wrong.

Yeah, Cortana being unuseable may be a seperate issue, just so you know! She is less than helpful.

Cortana is still very much in beta for some reason.

You can also switch back to the "Xbox, .. <command>" instead of using Cortana, if I recall
