Just realised the nearest pole is actually quite close, only 30 metres away (through the threes in attached photo) so I'm sure we'll be grand.
Think I'll insist on the 300mb though even though he said there's no need. Double the speed for €8. Why wouldn't I.

Yeah it's a one off house in the country side. You can't fit a car where it is.
That cable is our current broadband. No phone line at the moment so no pole. Will they install one to install the broadband?

Can you see where the fibre is located close to your home?
Is it ducted or hanging from Poles?
Any sign of a 'black lunch box' on the nearest telephone pole?

The black box isn't even on the pole in above pic but it's on the next one in the line

They will more than likely bring the cable in overhead and attach it to your house if the span is not too great. It will be up to the installer. They may want an additional pole installed depending on distance.

Do KN/ eir installers ring you beforehand to discuss the installation and what needs to be in place, or do they just come and do the installation as they see fit/workable on the day?
Now that I can get FTTH I realise I need to think about the location of the modem etc in my house before the install.

How can you tell if you can get FTTH or just FTTC ?

    USE EIRCODE CHECKER for FTTH

''Great news. Your premises is on open eir’s 300k rural fibre rollout programme. We expect fibre broadband to be available to you by the first half of 2017.''

    What exactly does that mean.

I only have dsl internet currently, 0.68 mbs . They did do a lot of work recently, I saw new lines go up on roads around me.

    Thanks for the info!
Think the duct looks as if it just goes from foot path into the house! Builder is gone bust of course.
Ah it'll be grand. I'm just all excited now.
Two days ago I thought I had to wait til September. I have 50mb. I just wants me super fast broadband now. Don't care if they have to put telephone pole at the front door tbh :)

Depending on the size of the duct, you could rent (from the majority of tool rental companies) a "duct rodding reel" and a "Sonde" and detector and push it down the duct and trace it all the way to the end point :) I had to do that before to find a lost duct at the boundary of my place before. saved a whole lot of digging

The first half of 2017 is January to June I'm on the second half of 2017 July to December. It means you soon have fibre broadband FTTH with a choice of 3 packages 1GB,300mb,150mb.

I'm pretty sure I currently have it , I must look into it.
    New lines went up recently.

It means you'll have Fibre To The (your) Home.......1000mbps if you choose.

So you, like Gonzo and hopefully me, will be in the top 1% for fastest b/band in the world.....ok I made the last bit up but it's possibly true.

Interesting - Eir website down at the moment. For "improvements".
Almost definitely something to do with speeding up their delivery of MY broadband connection, surely ?

My Eircode is still not passing!

    Thankfully my Phoneline was.

I think that's why your Splice box wasn't the correct one. You were lucky to get an engineer who just connected it to the DP given. Main thing is you have it now after waiting so long to get it!

Neither my Eircode nor my phone number is passing in Mayo. Does this mean I'll have to wait until 2022?
Would it make sense to sell the house and move to an Eircode that passes?

    Same boat here,
Eircode still fails & phoneline suddenly passed last week.
KN due on Monday and Eir on Thursday.
    Fingers crossed now...

This is the more reliable one that you'd want to look at

It's not passing, but my neighbour a few hundred metres away is: "Great news. Your premises is on open eir’s 300k rural fibre rollout programme. We expect fibre broadband to be available to you by the second half of 2018."

Could I lay a few hundred metres of fibre myself to extend it? Looking at fibre prices online it should not cost much, and I could hang it off the existing poles quite easily using a ladder.

When you order fibre, you choose a date and most likely if your area is live, KN will ring you to arrange a date closer than the date you choose if there is other installs in your area. They installed mine 4 days early because neighbour was also getting installed.

It's up to you where you want your connection installed but I would recommend usually the room where you use your computers if it's a desktop pc or a living room/bedroom if you use laptops and mobile devices. If your a gamer choose the closed route as possible so there is no increase in ping with long cable runs between router and pc.

What does the NBP interactive map say about your house - http://www.dccae.gov.ie/en-ie/communications/topics/Broadband/national-broadband-plan/high-speed-broadband-map/Pages/Interactive-Map.aspx

most of Dunshaughlin is now enabled.

The exchange launched on 8th April with 230 premises passed out of 570.

Last Wednesday they added more premises including mine bringing it to 490 out of 570, so that leaves just 80 more premises to go live which will probably be in a months time.

Thanks for that link Cush! Here's what it says about my house:
    ● 100% within NBP Intervention Area
    ● 0% covered by operators
    ● 0% planned rural deployment

Unfortunately open eir (who roll out the network) do not work with the general public and wouldn't do what you want them to do.

The last thing to do it just confirm on this website if if you are covered by a light blue dot or not. You might see that your neighbours that are passing are covered with a blue dot and you are not. Unfortunately if this is the case, then you, like me will have to wait until the National Broadband Plan comes around as you are not part of eir's 300,000. It is annoying. My whole road back 3 km to the exchange is covered under the 300,000 and my neighbour and I are not :( It's just the way it goes and there's nothing you can do about it unfortunately

Im down for Autumn wonder when I'll see them putting fibre on my road.

Yet your neighbour a few 100mts away is in the 300,000 rollout, does that house have a blue circle on it in the intervention map?

My neighbour, who's a few hundred metres away, has the blue dot. Looks like the fibre just stops at his house, and there's no more blue dots after him.

It would be so cheap to swing a few hundred metres of fibre across myself...
